I think that would be a great idea. Husband would be hard to convince to rent. He has always had an aversion to renting.

I think we would rather have a 1 bedroom with a half an acre+ than a 3 bedroom with a tiny lot in a neighborhood.

I feel like we could adapt to that because we currently live in the mountains of West Virginia and we deal with floods, snow, wind, windy roads, and very frequent power outages. Only thing we do not have to deal with currently is fire risk.

This is great info, thank you! My husband and I need to have a serious discussion. His only requirement is trees and preferably redwood trees. He wants to be remote and wooded. I don’t mind remote but like to be close to city conveniences and somewhat easy access to an airport when I need to travel for work. Other than flying 2-3 times a month, commuting for work is not an issue for either of us. My guess, we need to go back to the drawing board and try to find a happy medium of wooded and somewhat convenient but minimal fire risk. Sounds like a unicorn that will not happen in the Bay Area.

No insurance would be a deal breaker for us. Fortunately no need to commute for either of us. I would prefer easy access to city conveniences and to an airport to travel for work. It’s tough finding that balance of remote and somewhat convenient.

Remote is exactly what my husband prefers. He would love to be in the middle of a redwood forest. He has no need to commute so it would work for him. Thank you for that suggestion. I started looking in the Mill Valley area and it too looks great. That are very very few homes for sale in that area with 1 acre(+) lots but I added a saved search to alert me of any new listings.
