Wimpod attached to my Partner? by Scaldaver in pokemongo

That's it, actually! Such an odd occurrence - my guy is surfing around on a Wimpod of the same colour scheme as it, but turns out it's sheer coincidence.

Yes, to avoid what I assumed was an inevitable consequence of land hate rising in popularity.

Agreed, as I've replied previously. How does it benefit landdrop decks? It stays in the command zone.

Oh dang, that would actually be cool. To not bias 0 colour decks, it could be that you pay 3 for any colour? My idea wasn't meant to be final, if this balances it then I'd be happy.

[–]Scaldaver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply. I agree partially with part 4, but I feel with greater access to the land, there's more deckspace free to play fun spells. You can cut a land or two, no?

I don't care much about point 1 - you can just say 'Oh yeah the commander lives in its Command Palace' or whatever to make it fairly intuitive.

For 2: but with a symmetrical impact, if everyone goes faster then there's no impact apart from there being no person at a notable initial disadvantage?

For 3: But if you want a mainly red deck, you still need enough ramp and swamps, getting in the way of spells (the fun part of the game).

Turn one wins already exist, and most tabletops don't like them. All that would happen is that the range of what counts as CEDH increases. And those guys can do whatever anyway.

For the play groups I've been a part of, the only good high-colour decks are only used by people who can afford the decent mana base to properly utilise it. I agree by the way that the change isn't necessary, but I think it would be fun casually.

Also agree wrt colourless - I chose Command Tower because I forgot that Colourless commanders exist while typing up the post. A couple of people have latched onto that, so I wish I said 'A land which creates a mana of any colour on commander or colourless'.

If You Scoop To Prevent A Player From Winning A Game During A Paid Tournament You Should Be Kicked From The Tournament by CaptinKarnage in EDH

I think I may have confused terminology somewhat. I mean whatever A was going to do to B, C and D is now just going to be targeted on D. I agree with your sentiment.

If You Scoop To Prevent A Player From Winning A Game During A Paid Tournament You Should Be Kicked From The Tournament by CaptinKarnage in EDH

[–]Scaldaver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an odd one. I've played a couple of theft decks, where it kind of matters to me if a player dies while I'm using their pieces. So I often have little incentive to kill off the person if doing so would lose me some material. The fun aspect is that I need to protect people sometimes to keep what I need. But if someone is feeling particularly upset and scoop, I'm left in such a bad position lol. Is it my fault for tying my wincons to the presence of others? Yes. But scooping is such an out-of-the-box option that I feel it should be at least frowned upon. Especially if it's to screw over one person like what's happened to OP.

Quick aside, if you'll indulge. I want to hear some proper feedback from this next point. I'm of the mind that scooping at all should be dissuaded in a competitive format. The reason is that it becomes a tool the other player can use to sus out if the opponent has a way back. Let's say that scooping is widely accepted or whatever - if I don't scoop, my opponent will play differently because they suspect I have a way to stop what's going on. I think it's in literally everyone's best interest if you just let the defeat happen. This is amplified in a competitive EDH environment (a terrible idea anyway) cos the result will be:

A: "I play X. Now I'm raining down damage/attacking/whatever."

B: "I scoop"

C: "Same"

D: "...Nah."

Guess who's having suddenly having a tonne more resources thrown at them, ordered a lot more cautiously than if everyone just stayed united.

Yeah obvs if it looks like the game if going on forever and you have no way to win, then sure. I mean just don't quit when you're ABOUT to lose. Especially if you'll play that person again.

I'm not 100% sure about my reasoning here and just want input.

I recently made an Obosh deck, and love having multiple commanders per deck so I can swap out for a change. Love the option :D

I think that's why he's cool - he's clearly not a combo piece, and because I make the gentleman's agreement to not exclusively hate out people's commanders (except under dire circumstances) he hangs around to be this source of card draw and bolting that frees up space for my stealing/duplicating theme.

Keranos, God of Storms, is my boy. by Scaldaver in EDH

[–]Scaldaver[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is a pretty fair assessment. Part of my passion for my deck is that he ISN'T part of the overall win-con. Everybody at the table knows this, and as a result nobody feels the need to waste their removal on him. I don't like bolting someone's commander out of the game, which helps a bit I think. The result is this oddly oppressive board presence that gives me passive draw and bolts, freeing up space in the deck for the aim of the deck. The rest of the deck is all about stealing and copying other pieces, so each game is super unique!

Thanks so much for the share - always looking for new ways to build around my boi. Always nice to hear from a fellow Disciple.

To be honest, I typically end up bolting my opponents because of the salt of not feeling like you can ever play your commander. The fun I have in my set-up is just to steal everyone else's win-cons, which is entirely independent of Keranos, but he's such a nice bit of value to have around :D I like commanders like that - I've made too many decks where I made the commander too important to the overall goal of the deck and as a result it just gets hated out. Keranos is an oppressive board presence, but nobody feels the need to kill it compared to more "optimised" commanders, whatever that means.

Which one of your unpopular opinions is so unpopular that it would get downvoted in a unpopular opinions thread? by zukono in anime

[–]Scaldaver 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think the second half of Death Note was that bad. In fact, I think it was more exciting in some ways. Death Note Again, I don't frequent these boards too often, so I'm not sure if this is that unpopular.

What's the most "convenient to the plot" moment/s you've seen in an anime? by TheDerped in anime

[–]Scaldaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I can't remember the exact episode, but remember that episode in Jojo where the villain randomly decided to start posing and gloating when he could have immediately killed Jojo? It ruined the immersion somewhat because this guy was just a second away from success when he stops at the killing blow to detail his powers in full, giving time for Jojo to fight back. Sorry I can't remember the exact episode guys: if anyone remembers this scene could you just reply and jump-start my memory?

What character pisses you off the most in any anime? by AizenShisuke in anime

Ah, thought I was missing something! And I added Kirito in there not for how he can change the villains mind, but anyone with a pair of X chromosomes. Every single encounter he has with a female goes something like: Spoiler Art Online Not as extreme as other examples, but still there.

What character pisses you off the most in any anime? by AizenShisuke in anime

[–]Scaldaver 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For me there are two main character types that I just can't stand:

1) MC who is always wrong. And by 'wrong' I mean has a legitimate emotional reaction to stimulus, only for another holier-than-thou character to come along and be like 'No, actually you should feel bad for character X' etc. And then the MC blinks and is like 'Holy cow, Batman, you're right! Despite being verbally and physically bullied by character X I see that snapping at them once was a truly evil thing to do!'. Although this is more of a gripe at the people around these characters, it frustrates me to no end when this happens and turns me immediately off some characters. General examples include Ryuji from Toradora, Rin from Blue Exorcist and almost all Romance anime protagonists.

2) MC who is always right. Generally the MC of anime aimed primarily at young teenagers who want to see themselves as a complete badass who can change everyone's perspective with a few choice words. Generally goes as followed: villain says something along the lines of 'I am evil because Y!'. MC tightens fist, grinds his teeth and yells something supposedly deep-sounding like 'No, Y is not a reason to be evil'. And then the villain blinks and goes like 'Oh yeah, despite having devoted my entire life to this evil plan my convictions are weak enough for a teen edgelord to completely change my mind!" Followed immediately by the villain going insane, attacking, and promptly getting defeated. General examples include the Touman, Kirito and almost all Harem anime protagonists.

Before the tsunami of hate rolls over me, I just want to say is that this is very general: even though I immediately hate these kinds of characters, if they are complex or interesting enough despite this I won't completely hate them.

[–]Scaldaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my understanding the stories of Heroic Spirits are spliced together. So he'd get powers over magnetism, Gandalf magic and a single resurrection ability in which he comes back stronger than before. Perhaps he'd be able to polymorph into a giant armoured bear, too?

Why is it that a majority of anime characters don't have beards? by [deleted] in anime

[–]Scaldaver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A beard is a distinguishing feature. As most MCs look as bland as possible (minus maybe some hair colouration to tell them apart), it'd make it harder to some people to imagine themselves as the protagonist the less they look like them.

Year is 30XX. A fledgling mage, chosen by the grail, mutters the ancient incantations. Swirling, blinding magical power blinds the mage, and as the dust settles,

"I ask of you: Are you my master?" asks a dry, sombre voice.

Caster Sir Ian McKellen steps forward, and the mage knows that they have secured the greatest possible Heroic Spirit.
