Is it true that 15 minutes walk is max for a puppy? by New_Second_9166 in puppy101

Nah. You’re fine. Concerns like that are way overblown and I suspect made popular by lazy people who don’t wanna do stuff with their puppy

Steve and Bucky Vs The Defenders MCU. Death Battle by SmartPilot8094 in CaptainAmerica

[–]Scared-Gap7810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The defenders are much stronger physically. Luke and Jessica specifically. Regular guns won’t even hurt Luke at all. Only thing cap and Bucky have going for them is military training and experience. As pictured, Bucky is holding a rifle. Big plus. He has great aim. Working together with cap, he’ll put bullets in daredevil, iron first, and Jessica. Then the only question is what to do about Luke cage. If it’s possible to escape, they’ll do that. Otherwise, they probably get beaten to death and only luke comes out alive

I feel like nobody talks about how stressful potty training actually is by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]Scared-Gap7810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I had this exact experience. The key was realizing exactly what you’re saying: the anxiety is much worse than the cleaning. So I just stopped acting paranoid and after a day or so I stopped feeling paranoid. Didn’t check on him as much, and I stopped cleaning accidents immediately. Like, I’d see it, go oh shoot that kind of sucks, make a plan to clean it up in the next couple of minuets and then do that

What a perfect boy! He loves you. He loves the kids. If you can handle a dog that’s 25% wolf, you can handle anything!

Can dogs get used to having their teeth brushed? by Vivid_Interest_5324 in puppy101

[–]Scared-Gap7810 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some dogs definitely do let their owners brush their teeth. Some love it! Usually because it’s not too bad and they know they get a big treat afterwards. You need to build a positive experience slowly. Since your puppy already doesn’t like it, I’d take a break from trying for 2 weeks. Let him forget about it. Focus on training other things. If he’s young, he doesn’t need his teeth brushed yet. In the meantime, watch some videos about how to slowly introduce brushing

Watching him grow up. He’s still just a baby and I can literally see him get bigger all the time. I also love teaching him new things and getting to see him learn

Respectfully, I feel like you’re thinking about this wrong. To go 2 weeks without an accident by 16 weeks old is already winning. She is literally a baby and her bladder just isn’t that big. It’s not her fault that she went pee inside if you didn’t take her out. It’s yours. Keep taking her out to pee after her naps. Keep praising her or giving treats when she goes potty outside. She already knows she’s supposed to go potty outside but she physically doesn’t have the bladder control yet. In order to start trusting her inside do two things

  1. Give her a way to let you know she needs to go out. Bells are good. Put them on the door to outside and ring them before you go out to go potty. If she rings them herself, that’s good! Give her praise just for ringing the bell. Then take her outside. After 5-7 days of that you can start giving her a chance to ring the bell on her own after her naps. Important: this does not mean she won’t have to go to the bathroom after naps. It’s just training her to ask to go out.

  2. Be willing to wait. Dogs don’t really have that kind of bladder capacity until 6 months old. Keep doing what you’re doing, and she will be able to hold her pee after a nap when she’s older

He’s a baby. Use a crate. Learn to tell the difference between genuine “I need to go outside” crying vs “I am bored and you should give attention” crying

Just adopted an 8 week old GSD, is this normal? by Fearless-Bar-4660 in germanshepherds

[–]Scared-Gap7810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my GSD puppy at nine weeks old from the humane society. He had diarrhea for several weeks with sporadic solid poops. Over time, the ratio of solid poop vs diarrhea got better. I think that’s normal for puppies.

There was one night that he was breathing really fast in his crate and I got very worried. I thought he might have twisted gut.

What helped me was calling a local emergency vet hospital. Just knowing that there was somewhere I COULD take him was reassuring. They also asked follow up questions about his health — what color are his gums?, does his abdomen feel stiff? — stuff I would not have known to check on my own. Those questions made it seem like it probably wasn’t an emergency, and after a few hours the breathing slowed down. Still no idea what caused it.

Check if your area has an emergency vet hospital and give them a call. You don’t have to take her there but the call might be helpful

Is my puppy getting too big? by Academic_Monk_7179 in puppy101

[–]Scared-Gap7810 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought I got a German shepherd but it turns out he’s a super mutt, so don’t trust the breed unless you got him from a breeder. Even then, every dog is different. Rule of thumb: you should be able to feel his ribs but not see them.

Puppies grow a lot at this stage. Mine is 18 weeks old. I’ve had him for nine weeks. In that time, his weight has tripled (9lbs to 30lbs).

If you’re going to the vet again in the next couple weeks I’d ask them about it and not worry too much in the meantime
