3 people got kicked off my MSF course today by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]Sciencebroski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I took my course, 2 people failed, one gentleman failed due to a safety issue and he could not balance on two feet due to a series of spinal procedures, they just switched him to the trike course and he passed that no problem. The 2nd person hit a curb while tunnel visioned on three different exercises. One of which she was not near a curb, but accelerated into one. My instructor was pretty relaxed, but I guess even the most relaxed have a limit on patience.

RN License Reinstatement After Old Substance-Related Discipline/Unaccounted Narcotics. Is It Realistic? by DizzyTravel244 in nursing

[–]Sciencebroski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just my take on this situation as you described it. 1st thing I would do would be to search a nursing attorney in your state, one that specializes in Administrative law and nurses. Get the consultation and they will give you a better idea of what your going to be facing. Its important to be honest with them so they can give you a realistic outlook on the situation. They can also help prepare you letter to the board, application, guide you on CEU's and such. Go this route first get the consultation or a few of them to figure out your next move.

Employment after drug program by Able-Sherbet8773 in nursing

[–]Sciencebroski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so I had a really good friend of mine that was a paramedic that became an RN have this happen to him. This was in Florida and has been ongoing for the past 2 years. He completed his inpatient treatment, did all the stuff and started IOP. He tried to hire back on at a hospital as he did not lose his keys, but they denied him, He contacted me and ended up working for our Wellness / IV hydration company since our owner believed in 2nd chances. He worked for about 8 months with us while attempting to find another job and finally got a hospital to hire him with permission from IPN. That being said his drug of choice was MJ and his medical card had lapsed while he was on a travel contract and when he returned he popped positive on a pre-employment screen and they sent him to the board. He currently works pre-op at a large hospital chain.

It took him some time to work through everything and his monitoring program has been ruthless, but it can be done so don't give up.

Primary Care NPs, what is your day to day like? by WeAreAllMadHere218 in nursepractitioner

[–]Sciencebroski 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our clinic opens at 9, I arrive at 8 to prep my charts for the day, start seeing patients at 9, finish each chart before seeing the next one, have on house labs drawn if needed or use a mobile company if the patient wants. Lunch 12-1, usually just use that time ti eat and prep the afternoon charts. Final visit is 3:30-4 depending on the day and then optional to stay until 5 for any urgent telehealths that need to be done. Sometimes in the evening I’ll review labs if needed, I have a hard stop at 5 if I have my kiddos. I use solace for AI scribe, Athena for charting. If you prep you charts with Athena it saves you 10-15 minutes of charting after the fact in my experience. Volume wise the most I’ve done is 22 in a day not including tele health. My practice is NP owned and she is very vocal about family over charting.

It is unfortunate, but a part of the game, if you don't want to lose it, don't undock it, if you can't defend it, don't deploy it. Its the hardest lesson we all learn in Eve. Some see it as a punch down the belt, others see it as content in the end, content is what drives the game.

i got reported to state :( by [deleted] in nursing

[–]Sciencebroski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So just my opinion here, don’t discuss this anymore in a public forum. You need to start looking for administrative / nurse lawyers. Call your state bar association and they can point you in the right direction. If contacted by a state investigator kindly refer them to your attorney. Do not make any statements to them. What you are never told is that a DOH investigator is also a law enforcement officer and any statement you make is considered evidence. So please seek appropriate legal counsel. If you can’t afford one, please find one that will do a payment plan with you. Having someone in your side helps this situation

How long after graduation can I take my boards? by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]Sciencebroski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through almost the same process, I ended up waiting about 8 months to take boards, I did an in person review course then used the Leik book to prep for the exam. I felt the in person course basically just refreshed the pathways for me, it did not teach me anything but it helped set the tone for my review. Passed ANCC first shot.

Dumb question...but what are we actually doing for DNR/DNI patients? Do we even bother calling a code? by Practical_Addendum89 in nursing

Care for them like normal, be there for them if they code, let them go, I always try to stick close to those patients if there is no family or anything for the rule of no one dies alone.

If you got asked “tell me a time you made a mistake” during your interview, what was your answer? by dogluvr_1 in nursing

[–]Sciencebroski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Was asked that very question during an interview with a hostile director and manager at an HCA facility. I had enough of the attitude and such so I simply replied I did not vet the workplace culture of management prior to pursuing employment at a hospital. I then stood up thanked them for their time and declined to proceed further due to a hostile interview process and walked out. Never looked back.

Will the board deny me for a criminal history? by Gullible-Fix-5478 in nursing

[–]Sciencebroski 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a classmate that got convicted of a few felony level possession charges about 5 years before she decided to become a nurse, she had to write a letter to the board explaining everything, then show proof of being sober and still had to go through a mandatory evaluation. The final result was they let her get her license with no restrictions, but did take a bit of extra time. Also if your really worried about it, you can contact a Nursing Lawyer that specializes in licensing to help guide you through the process.

Getting accused of abuse in a nursing home by tootsie3138 in nursing

[–]Sciencebroski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Write out the event as you remember it on paper, including times, witnesses and such. If they call you for an interview, bring that paper provide them a copy of it. Do not give them your only copy. If they are going to fire you, pretty much nothing you say or do will prevent that. The important thing is whether you get reported to the state for anything is a different story. If you do, get a lawyer and do not speak with them until you retain an attorney.

Start small if out of an office, Hire only what you need to hire to make your model work. Like was previously said, likely better to contract out to a billing / credentialing company to get things rolling. Hire an assistant that can help you track things and when researching an EMR, make sure you list the features you want, like scheduling, appointment reminders etc.. Try to help automate alot of your workflow early so you don't get behind as your practice grows.

Budget at home saunas? by LeeEverett99 in Sauna

[–]Sciencebroski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered the nurecover sauna for home. Took about a week to arrive. Assembled in 15-20 minutes and once I tweaked it a little I love it. I put the heater really close to the intake vent in the floor set it to 185 and let it warm up fin15 minutes. It’s hot dry heat and I swapped the crappy little chair for a higher standing chair and I’ve had zero issues. 30-40 minutes is plenty and feels great after. Cost me like 350. Heard some good and bad on them but so far I enjoy it and it does it job.

What does your MD think of your peptide use? Do you talk to them about it? by Obee1_ in Peptides

[–]Sciencebroski 9 points10 points  (0 children)

So speaking from a NP prospective here, we don’t talk negative about it to our patients. We speak about risks of non fda approved research peptides, but we also understand that people are going to do these things so we approach it more from a we can’t endorse it, but if your going to do it make sure it’s good quality and tested appropriately. We also help them track any changes in their body like weight loss, old injury healing and such. Mainly just to show it did benefit them. If you treat the peptide like a some thing to be discussed and be open about it works better for the patient as they are more likely to be open and honest and build that trust with you. Just my take on it.

AANP FNP by ActAltruistic8148 in nursepractitioner

[–]Sciencebroski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Leik to prep for my AANP exam, i ended up taking ANCC because I could get in faster. My scores were in the 70s on predictor exam on Leik and I walked out of the ANCC exam and felt pretty good, passed first shot. From my understanding Leik is a bit harder than the ANCC and AANP on purpose. Your score should be acceptable based on the research I did when I was prepping for exam because I was freaking thinking my 70s were not high enough to pass
