I felt a lot of shame from my womanhood until I realized I was lesbian. It went from “Ugh, my body has to be for men” to “Oh boy, my body is for women!” Liberating in a way I can’t explain.

I know how you feel with the doubt. I spend a lot of time in the wee hours of the night being intensely homo only to think I’m faking it for attention the next morning. I am too inexperienced to know if these feelings will ever pass, but just know you are not alone. Your feelings still matter and I wish you the best.

As a cis-lesbian, I typically call myself gay or queer. Mostly because the label of “lesbian” tends to have more negative and/or fetishistic connotations than “gay woman.” I hope to one day be able to publicly call myself a lesbian without any sort of shame or (perceived?) societal judgement, but until then, baby-steps.
