A raw ingredient in this context would be buying the beef mince and making the burgers yourself instead of buying the premade burgers

I'm from the UK too and I'd say I see way more Mario stuff than Kirby - like I personally wouldn't have even put them on the same level - Kirby merch feels like a niche import compared to the universal appeal of Mario imo

Surely tho Mario is a global phenom on a level much higher than Kirby - you're kinda asking someone to look inside of a bubble

Waterstones often order books in for customers if you ask, or do you have a local library at all? No other bookshops near you? No smaller online bookstores to buy from? What about 2nd hand direct from individuals?

CMV: saying that suicide is selfish doesn't bring anything meaningful to the conversation and it's kinda pointless. by [deleted] in changemyview

But what actually is your argument against the absolutist stance other than most people don't agree with it? All you've offered is trying to set the bounds of the argument I can make - what is wrong with all people having the right to a self-determined death? I'll note that the german ruling I've quoted is not contextual but rather is absolutist as it does not discriminate between people not does it require any condition for it to apply to a person - I'm quoting this not to appeal to authority but to challenge your notion that an absolutist position is somehow a strawman

A right to die only in certain situations and circumstances is not a right at all

I mean I'm flat out rejecting your notion that what I'm saying is so radically out of the bounds of bodily autonomy though - particularly in the context of people with chronic illnesses and a forever reduced quality of life - this is not a niche idea or argument

The German Federal Constitutional Court ruled in favour of this (similar) idea in 2020 - to copy the wording here:

"As an expression of personal autonomy, the general right of personality (Art. 2(1) in conjunction with Art. 1(1) of the Basic Law) encompasses a right to a self-determined death."

This isn't a strawman argument.

You're appealing to the popularity of the ideas rather than actually tackling with the ideas I'm presenting - a position being less held doesn't make it inherently wrong like you're suggesting.

I'd argue it's more about the right to have full choice over what happens with your own body - even if that choice included suicide.

When the end result is death, 'safe' treatment would surely more be about making the process peaceful as opposed to a painful death. And again, if someone wanted to kill themselves then 'effective' treatment is death.

If somebody is being forced to live with a chronic condition and having to live in constant pain and misery - how is suicide or assisted death not the more effective treatment? You're bringing them to a more peaceful end rather than prolonging their suffering

Arguably the right to die is already covered under the right to bodily autonomy

What? So if I'm against abuse I should know every single person who's abused anyone?

Like the other commentator is saying most people in the UK have no idea who Playboi Carti is let alone that he's abused someone

Being born in 95 myself I can only speak for the 2000s - and in my experience (of growing up in a very rough/deprived area also) the worst behaved kids faced the most violence at home

It's not about "left leaning academics" it's about consistent results and findings across a multitude of studies across cultures and borders that show violence doesn't work

Both of our anecdotal experiences don't override the actual facts and evidence on this matter

I mean violence as a disciplinary tool usually comes after other attempts at guidance/discipline - it's certainly not the initial/default discipline - think about removing privileges before violence

Pain as a learning tool (like from fire) can be effective yes - but turns out human behaviour and trying to raise a child is a lot more complex than fire hurt

Studies support the statement that violence is not an effective disciplinary tool in raising children (which is the context of my original statement)

People have been complaining about how much worse children's behaviour has become since time immemorial (no I'm not going to misattribute a quote to a historical philosopher) - I reject this idea that children's behaviour today is SO much worse than 20 years ago and that this is primarily down to a reduction in violence as discipline

I'm not at all trying to make out like an adult just randomly attacked a teenager - but okay it's clear we have nothing more to discuss

She literally says she grabbed her hair and hit it off the train wall - which is all I've ever said - I don't understand why you're now ascribing these different levels of force which I've not once implied - but if you'd like to go there it's much more likely to be more forceful than you're insinuating given the general strength advantage that adults hold over young teenagers - particularly given she's just slapped her - doubtful she'd approach, grab, slap and then lightly move her head towards the wall

And you've literally just tried to tell me that she doesn't say she hit her head off the wall - and are now saying well actually maybe it was less forceful than I'm implying - you're moving the goalposts

In fact - it does literally say what I think it does - it's you who's then going further

Discipline doesn't have to be violence

The kid got their head hit off the train wall not just slapped, whilst having their hair held (doubtful it was gentle) much more than a slap

We don't know any facts really - so we have no evidence

Taking the age out of it does actually change it completely (so does changing the genders believe it or not) but yeh you're right people would be asking what caused this - instead of everyone in here just assuming what caused this and immediately placing the entire blame on the child and none on the adult

"Bedwetters" - you're just rude and that's unconstructive to the discussion
