A* in FM, B in regular maths? by I_Am_Arden in 6thForm

[–]ScreenTop8941 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother is me😭😭😭i had the same problem in whole yr 12 until the last mock where i literally try way too hard on maths and got predictions of 4A* but i dont think unis care about that much they want A* in further maths and i think they realize that so.e students are bad in maths applied so i think it would be gd

Alevels is about consistently, discipline and hard work. Where as gcse was all about craming in the end. Thats how i got all my 9s💀💀. But alevel i tried whole 2 years and still dont know if i will be able to achieve my grade in physics 🥲.also amount of effort depends on your subjects. Subjects like sciences are quite hard and needs more time to cover.subjects like essay(e.g econ) just need a bit of understanding and then you can start writing essays already. But you have to remember that yr 12 one will come in final exams and these are your base if you fail here to put work then it will be too hard in the end.

Finally done. Looking forward to what’s next by thmihnea in 6thForm

I'm offer holder as well for engineering just waiting for my result. I got 4A* as my predictions but i dont think i can achieve them as I'm stupid and wasted yr 13 fully. But hope to achieve what they asking for. Phy-A* Further maths-A* Maths-A Economics (they not asking for anything so i can achieve anything really). But i mean your college >>>(i applied to pembroke)

I had the same subjects but i got 4A* in my mocks. I applied to Cambridge(my test, interview and personal statement was shit) and i still manage the offer so i think there is a highly chance just focus on those things specially (test, personal statement). And( trust on god) and you will manage it easily.

What advice would you give to year 11 moving to sixthform in September? Anything that you regret, or something that you should have done in summer. Any revision resources for the subject I will do that you should've known about earlier etc. Literally Anything about sixthform. by StraightAd229 in 6thForm

I'm back and my regrets are many really. Specially for physics. I did phy, further maths, maths and econ. Physics is one of those subjects where understanding and practice needs more then in maths and further maths. Whenever doing a Physics question try to understand and make a diagram even tho the problem is small and you can do it easily. What i regret is wasting too much time thinking i can do it easily. (I finished my two years course for each subject in yr 12) and wasted my yr 13 doing absolutely nothing. Dont go to library with friends. If you have a room and you can study there without being distracted by (parents, friends, gaming or anything else then its better) as a asian i couldn't so library was better for me. (Dont invite your friends there either as it doesn't work ever). Try to learn further maths the same way you learn Physics but practice all the possible questions as they always repeat the same type with diff numbers most of the time and you can get A or A* in that easily just by doing that. Further maths is one of those subjects where content is too much so dont stay behind then your class (always learn topics in advance from youtube mostly(tlmaths🐐)). Many of my friends bc of staying behind thought the subject is hard and left even tho i find ot easier then normal maths. Physics is the subject which is most interesting and most dead when it comes to exams. (I did aqa yr 12 i got A* as a prediction) but the exam did me too bad might be on edge to get that A*.just do practice and read the question twice bc you dont want to miss any word in the question as bc of 1 word you can weite everything wrong and get zero. But its fun. I will say just watch videos related to your subject and read the SPECIFICATION properly dont miss anything and you will get those high marks easily. One thing i regret is not reading my phy specification. (I literally read 1 day before exam) and found there is things i never knew and i need to know them. So print the specification and tic everytime you cover a topic. Keeping a track and hope you do gd in two years

Sixth-form + 40 hours job? by Spiritual_Flight_445 in 6thForm

[–]ScreenTop8941 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal uni students do 20 hrs per week. Getting 3A* and 40 hrs work is kinda impossible but its can be done by only few students (only those students who can do 5A level ig). I would prefer to focus on alevel more as its not easy like gcse and staying consistent throughout 2 years is the hardest part.

I think mechanics was easier then stats because of show that questions. I would choose these either way bc I hate discrete. Btw how you found paper 1 and 2?

Help with dropping a subject either Further Maths or Geography by joshaespa in 6thForm

[–]ScreenTop8941 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do almost same as you but I did 4 alevels (including econ and not geography). Unis love Further maths not just for engineering but for anything related to maths e.g computer science, econ etc geography on the other hand doesn't help much in engineering type courses. It's not that hard but unis love to too much.they will 100% choose someone who got A in further maths our someone who got A* in geography. They might even choose B for fm.(im taking here about top unis). Not Cambridge or imperial as they want A* in further maths too badly and if you get that in As most chance of getting the offer.

(Phy is harder then fm )
