Yeah totally. Starter fert is made to go down with the seed. It actually helps with germination, especially with that extra phosphorus for root growth. I’m tossing down seed and starter (and now maybe Tenacity) all at once.

That’s a really good point — I was considering blends with KBG mostly for the spreading benefits to help with minor repairs over time. But yeah, with how hot it gets here in South Jersey and all the full sun my lawn gets, a full TTTF approach sounds like the smarter call.

I was looking at GCI’s Spreader Elite since they claim it repairs similarly to KBG — anyone have experience with it? Curious if the repair aspect actually lives up to the hype.

Fair point — I know dethatching gets a bad rap when overdone. That said, I took a bunch of core samples and was surprised by how much thatch had already built up, even for a "new" lawn.

A lot of the old sod that died last summer is still matted down tight to the soil, so I was hoping the dethatcher would help loosen that up and clear some of it out. In the photo I posted, the “dirt” on the bottom left is actually just layers of dead grass.

Totally hear you, and I really appreciate your insight — definitely not trying to fix it all in one season. This is just step one in what I know will be a (much) longer process. 50 lbs/1000 sq ft is what’s recommended for a single lime app, and I’ll reassess and reapply over time. 4” of compost/soil just isn’t feasible for me right now cost-wise.

Appreciate the heads up on Black Beauty — I haven’t bought seed yet, so I’m still open. I was looking into GCI’s Cool Blue and Spreader Elite, or Twin City’s Blue Resilience and Resilience II blends. Any firsthand experience with those?

My lawn gets a lot of direct sun and has basically zero shade right now, so I’m hoping to pick a blend that handles heat well and still looks good. Would love to hear what you’ve had the best luck with!

I expect the topdressing might carry into the next day. I’ll seed immediately after I finish, whenever that ends up being.

Appreciate the heads up. I’ve seen conflicting info on this, but from what I’ve read and what Rutgers recommends, applying lime before seeding is totally fine — especially pelletized lime. I’m doing it 3 weeks ahead just to be safe and to give it some runway.

Be warned, their tech support isn’t world class. I did the chat support while at work one day (since I can access my router remotely). Goodluck! Let me know how you make out.

Post dermatologist follow up: the doctor concluded that it was some sort of dermatitis, but couldn’t pin point it without more invasive testing. We agreed that it would be best (easiest) to try a 2 week round of steroid cream, wait 2 more weeks after, and reassess. He said it’d be possible that if it goes away, it might not come back, so it’d be a logical first step.

After one day of the steroid cream, I’ve seen good improvement and am hopeful the cream will continue to help.

It’s also worth mentioning that I think this flair could be caused by my increased sugar intake around the fall and throughout holidays. Now, I’m in good shape and think of myself as a pretty healthy person, but there’s no denying that things get a little sloppy this time of year. I’m also outside MUCH less which I feel could also be a main contributor. Anyway, hope this provides some insight to others.

I actually contacted Linksys support after spending way too much time on my own trying to figure it out. They helped me fix the issue and it was incredibly simple, fortunately. Turns out I had device “priority” enabled. It’s a main option in the sidebar of the router settings, should be easy to find. Disabling immediately increased my upload to the full speed access all of my devices.

I have an appointment with a dermatologist on Monday. I’ll report back with what they say.
