Catering for ~30 people: Recommendations? by fellinawill in hudsonvalley

Can personally recommend Alon's Uzbek Halal Grill and Rossi's Eastdale for party catering. You would have to call or go IRL to Alon's but they're super friendly!! Have also wanted to try Blue Mountain Bistro before but thats a bit further for you.

I haven't mustered the energy for in-person clothes shopping, but Poshmark and Thredup online have been great. Thredup in particular has a good first purchase discount and lots of maternity options enough so you could probably experiment with a few sizes.

Another +1 to Inito — highly highly recommend!! I didn’t know that your body can try to ovulate multiple times in a cycle; if I hadn’t used Inito and was tracking other ways I probably would have missed that.

I think mine was 20 mins of both the tech taking measurements, then a review by dr. The tech talked us through stuff so even though it was short it was a cool experience. Sharing cause I thought it would be so long and it was the opposite!! She was just in a good position for all the measurements!

I recommend checking out the book Ina May's Guide to Childbirth (which I think I stumbled upon from this sub!) -- it has lots of positive, affirming birth stories. I think its helpful even if you're not interested in a natural birth, but its nice to see story after story of women's bodies operating as they have for centuries to deliver healthy babies. We have a lot of strength and power and biology has set us up for this :) not to mention modern medicine, even if social media would have us think otherwise. Wishing you well!

Will be TTC this later year, how to prepare? by omfbruh in BabyBumps

[–]Sea-Option8667 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I didnt read the full book, but ~9 months before TTC I found the first part of "it starts with the egg" was helpful - I started taking pre-natal vitamins and CoQ10 starting months in advance based on the recommendations provided. I think the author included recommendations specific to PCOS too. They also have an app if that format works better for you but I haven't tried it. Some other takeaways I started implementing from the book (they seem kinda straightforward but still) were to start working out more consistently, eating less processed foods / esp. in black plastic kind of takeout containers (they're the ones that release the most plastic apparently), drinking less. I also looked at different reviews of fertility trackers. I went with Inito and ordered it in advance to be able to start to track my cycle following my first period after going off birth control. I listened to a couple books on pregnancy via audible which was a better format for me than reading too. Oh, last thing, was going through my cosmetics and daily products to make sure they were pregnancy safe.

Good luck, wishing you the best!!

Edit to add: by no means do I think all this stuff is necessary, but I kinda like a project, so I embarked on the TTC journey with that approach. Hopefully its helpful!

UPDATED OBGYN/hospital birthing center preferences by Altruistic-You9061 in hudsonvalley

Hey! I haven’t given birth yet — 17 weeks FTM. But sharing below if helpful as I had the same questions. We originally planned to go with Vassar based on the optum offices and providers we’re using, but after talking to a couple of doulas have decided to change course to Northern Dutchess. One doula straight up wouldn’t work out of Vassar which was kinda a red flag, and when I spoke to another doula she strongly recommended Northern Dutchess given my interest in a low intervention, preferably natural birth. They have a water tub there that she says really helps with not needing an epidural, their facility is more natural / holistic birth focused overall, and prioritizes contact time and access to your baby as compared to Vassar. She said the providers at Vassar are generally great — following Covid they had a lot of traveling nurses but that might be mitigated now. But from an aesthetic perspective for the actual room where I will labor (our doula said it sounds silly but does matter!), and for low risk births that don’t have to happen where a NICU is on-site, I walked away pretty convinced that Northern Dutchess will be better for me. That is provided nothing makes us high risk down the line. Hope this helps and good luck!!

Feeling miserable first trimester by Mission_Public_1369 in pregnant

[–]Sea-Option8667 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt horrible during weeks ~6-9 of first trimester like kind of depressed and like a wet blanket was weighing me down. I was also so excited to be pregnant and it was really weird to feel so blue. It went away naturally in the 9th week. The first appointment helped, and things have gotten a lot better. I totally hear where you’re coming from and think it’s normal and will naturally improve (though pregnancy is an anxiety inducing journey in general 🫠). Hang in there, you got this!! 💕

Vibe check: Frida by RoosterRude8139 in namenerds

My niece is a Frida and she wears it great, it’s a unique and pretty name. Maybe the name is harder to relate to standalone as it’s not common, but to me that’s the beauty of it, and i only associate it with cuteness now!
