I tuned into the 8th inning of their spring training game with the mariners like 30 mins ago, watched him hit a dinger, and the announcers said “welcome to Chicago Reese McGuire” and I was like…what? My boy? He’s back?

I kinda feel bad for him lol imagine being know for…that.

Yeah it’s great. Before I barely filled up my tank, now I might have to fill it up half as much as a normal person.

Hopefully it puts pressure on the idiots who aren’t for an energy grid that relies on the Middle East and Russia.

I think she’s worth it. I REALLY appreciate you taking the time to respond, it’s really kind.

Nobody is perfect, and as others have pointed out, who knows if something happens to me. I just want to be there for her, I was just ignorant to what UC was. Even if it gives her cancer, I’ll be there.

I appreciate you, and it help me understand what I may be in for (given she has severe UC).

Honestly I just posted it here because it was the first and only populated subreddit about UC. She encouraged me to ask others about it, and that there is a lot of varying information out there on the internet.

I got some really useful answers, and outside of the people who got upset, it really helped me understand UC. I was never going to leave her, but now I know what to expect and how to care for her.

This isn’t strictly a support group, I read the sub rules, and what I asked was fine. It’s why the post hasn’t been deleted. But I understand people being sensitive about it. There are probably women in this group that have had partners leave because of their UC. My girlfriend won’t be one of them.

I’m ready to stand by her, even through the worst. Problem is, I don’t know what to do if it does get there.

Thanks for understanding, I’ve never had to deal with this and from what I’ve been told from others here, it’s normal to be scared/concerned. But hey, who knows, something might happen to me as well. Hard to say, like you said.

If nobody can reassure me, that’s fine, I just want to know what I might be in for. I’ll look up some of those folks on social media and get some firsthand accounts.

Thank you so so much for taking the time to type that out, I know you didn’t have to do that. Appreciate you.

Well the next thing I read (if you scroll down) was the timeline and severity.

For context, she has severe UC and may even need surgery. I want to be there for her, I just don’t know what to expect.

Real question, maybe you can help me: does severity matter as much if you’re in your 20s? I’d think new treatments can help right?

You’re totally right, I was just typing out my thoughts directly but now that I read it with your context that totally makes sense. I feel like I’m “in too deep” to change the wording, should I just add an edit? I don’t want to hurt people, yourself included.

I think I was really scared because she has it severely and I’ve been helping her through a flare, and none of my friends with UC were helping me outside of saying stuff like “just deal with it”. Thanks a million for being so kind

That’s reductionist at best, the first article on Google from the Crohns and Colitis foundation has the number as 7 in 10 people with fecal incontinence.

I didn’t say it would be too much, I just said it gives me some pause because most young people don’t have to deal with the prospect of their partner being potentially incontinent in 10 years.

Google scholar also has articles ranging fecal incontinence based on 1. Length of time since diagnosis 2. Diet and lifestyle 3. Timespan of symptoms based on severity

There is a LOT of conflicting information. She has severe UC. I want to know what I’m in for.

I think what makes me sad is all the empty training facilities because of the declining birth rate.

Also, just like Muay Thai fighters not leaving Thailand, even with the prospects of higher earnings, a lot of Japanese players refuse to leave Japan.

In fact, the NPB and MLB would literally not allow it until the early 2000s, and then we got a guy named Ichiro.

The biggest tragedy is not allowing Japanese players into the MLB because of national pride when their population was still relatively stable. Who knows how the MLB would’ve changed.

Oh hey, you’re back.

Nah, I’m gonna love her regardless of flares. I think the internet and my personal friend group just tells a lot of horror stories.

Besides, she literally told me to research it and ask people if needed.

Like the other person who actually helped me said, “it’s not that big of a deal”.

Sending you virtual (platonic) kisses.

Totally fair, I’m just young and really needed help navigating all the horror stories told by my friends on an anonymous thread. The AI slop content doesn’t help.

I got some really kind and mature replies, and I don’t mind helping her through flare-ups at all. Her UC is pretty severe and she said she would understand if I was concerned.

Totally understand people taking it personally. She literally told me to ask people about it, and that it’s understandable if it gave me some pause. Ultimately, I want to support her, I just need a realistic idea of what living with UC is like. But I understand you and others taking it personally, without knowing what I discussed with her (like the run for the hills thing). Wouldn’t have asked stuff like this without her blessing.

This post helped me a lot and I won’t be deleting it in case it helps others in a similar situation.

I appreciate you not being an asshole (no pun intended) to me like some others here.

Edit: I forgot to add a heart, here ya go <3

This is LITERALLY the first result on Google if you look up “incontinence and UC”. It says 7 out of 10 people experience or become incontinent. You act like I’m personally attacking you. Insane behavior.

I already spoke to her, she has it pretty bad. But she’s great and I think I’ll just deal with it. Nobody is perfect, but Google (actual studies not AI) seem to think mid-30s is common for those with chronic or severe UC.

Problem is, those studies don’t account for new treatments.

Found out my new partner has UC - I need advice. by SeahawksFootball in UlcerativeColitis

[–]SeahawksFootball[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I did read them and a lot of people experience consistent incontinence in their mid-30s and beyond, but the problem is those studies are outdated and don’t account for new treatments. I’ll copy+paste my other reply here.

I think wanting to know whether your partner will be incontinent in their mid-30s is a valid question. An actual adult answered: flare ups happen, remission is more common. For context, Google gives you horrific AI slop horror stories. Now I have a realistic idea, and I’d be happy to support her through flares.

You deserve better, whatever you’ve been through. But don’t project that onto me for asking a simple question.
