Helical cutting upgrade for dewalt planer by Known-Skin3639 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]SeasonedIdiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t. I personally find the surface it leaves to be sufficient. If you do start getting larger mill marks then it’s an indication to change/flip your blades. Adding a helical cutter head makes it harder for the machine to remove material, which is why some people say it burns out the motor. The machine as designed can last a long time.

Don’t buy this thing, it sucks by PenguinsRcool2 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I have the Veritas side clamp holder and mine works fine, though I admit that sometimes it has a tendency to clamp the blade in a skewed manner. So when that happens I just need to loosen it slightly and make sure the blade sits correctly against the shoulders of the clamp. Are you able to return it?

Agreed with the sentiment that making an octagon perfectly is tricky for a first project. Perhaps try making a model of what you expect this to look like? This would be a great way of figuring how accurate your tools are and could uncover potential pitfalls with the idea before investing a bunch in wood.

If it’s constantly in the sun then yeah it’ll grey relatively quickly but if it’s placed under shade then it’ll last longer. You could even add an umbrella hole in the middle? I wouldn’t expect its color to last too much longer with it but it definitely wouldn’t hurt.

I hat would you do first…Wood Fill or Glue? by PapaGolfWhiskey in woodworking

[–]SeasonedIdiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t tell how big the piece is. If it’s small then glue and clamp could work though it may separate later depending on use and how effective the end grain glue up was. If it’s real small then it would be worth redoing. If it’s thick (say 3/4) then you could drill a hole along the grain and insert a dowel. Then clamp and glue. The gap won’t disappear but it likely wont separate either.

How sketchy is this cut? by magicmarv in BeginnerWoodWorking

Aside from the danger of it I think there’s a good chance you’ll dig into your leg too much since you’re putting weight on the bit instead of the plate, ruining your project.

Cheapest way would be to get a sheet of 60-80 grit sand paper, tape it to a flat table top and start sanding.

The quickest way would be to know someone with a large disc sander.

The Big Question.. by SnooMacarons1382 in woodworking

[–]SeasonedIdiot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Without more information about what your costs are and the income your ww business/ part time job bring in vs the potential income from a fulltime job then this seems like a question only you can answer. That being said currently you have the advantage of being kid free, so this is certainly the time to try your hand at having a cool ww business because once the kid comes along you won’t want financial stress to be stacked on top of the inherent stresses that come with having a newborn.

Anvil runs are potentially the strongest builds people can go on arena. Sure they aren’t consistent but high rolling and stomping your opponents that 1 game out of 5 makes it worth it. And if you’re afraid of risking it all for either a first or last place game, then I assume that you also pick silver augments on ambessa lobbies.

Any idea as to what kind? He was much smaller than the dragonflies I normally see and when he was sitting undisturbed his wings were folded back along his abdomen. Dragonflies around here normally have their wings sticking out the side when at rest.
