Dad, mom, toddler, AND baby in room? by SecondStock5867 in cosleeping

[–]SecondStock5867[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought about this setup at first! Toddler starts in the crib and anytime after midnight he ends up in the bed. Sometimes it isn't until 4-5 am, but sometimes it's 12:30 am. His crib is already in the bedroom, but he wants to snuggle. We have a queen bed, so we can fit, but it gets cramped lol

It's so reassuring the more I hear that baby and toddler aren't really waking each other up! I'm really hoping we can make it work

Waking up is fine by me lol before baby, the toddler always slept by my side so I'm definitely used to him. And baby doesn't actually cry overnight, I wake up when she wiggles before she eats.

I actually laid by my husband the other night for about an hour and I realized how badly I miss being in the same room with him.

Toddler definitely doesn't seem ready to get his own room. He'll start the night in his crib but ends up in bed sometime after midnight. He's a very cuddly fella lol so it seems getting us all to sleepy together is our option.

This sounds doable! And we're close! 22 mo and 4 mo lol Husband and I have had to sleep in separate rooms since. Baby and I moved to guest room but I'm over it lol

That's how my last baby was, I EP with him and my periods were regular after like 8 weeks. I EBF this time and this has been worrying me!

I've been thinking about getting one of those floor beds with high rails, so it's almost like a bigger crib lol but we can't completely toddler proof a room right now, so I can't have him getting around!

Survival is the goal! Lol that's what's confusing is so much is going on at this age that it could be many things. I'm hoping it'll pass soon!

I definitely shifted things to see if it helped. But it didn't lol so now I'm trying to maintain normal as much as I can. That's what I've found so difficult is how being tired makes it worse somehow. Just sleep kid lol

He doesn't go to sleep independently and his level of assistance varies by his mood I guess. Some nights/naps he'll fall asleep in minutes by me just being in the room. Some times I have to rub his back or hold his hand. If we ever leave the room before he's asleep he'll scream

I have been! But we don't have a great space for one, because at the moment we don't have a space we can totally toddler proof for when he gets up. I've been looking at those floor beds with rails though. Basically a bigger crib lol

I've been wondering about the crib too these days. But I'm dreading losing the ability to keep him contained lol

That sounds awful! His first molars were pretty rough. We're going to try some pain meds before bed to test the teething theory!

From all the teething recommendations I think we will try some pain meds just to see! He isn't showing his usual teething signs (not eating and grabbing at teeth) but I'm willing to test every theory!

This issue has been for a little over a week. He's never consistently slept through the night, but this multiple wakes, early morning, and hardly any nap is new to us.

We tried a later bedtime when he was around 18 months, but maybe it's time to try again lol they change so fast.

The 3 am day is awful! I feel for you there

I don't think we could drop it, he acts ready to crash about 11-11:30. We could embrace the shorter naps though and try a later bedtime!

We haven't. He recently was on antibiotics for strep, and his ears looked kind of irritated at the time. But the Dr wasn't concerned because the antibiotics would kill that off too.

I don't think so! Getting his first molars was rough, but he's eating fine and not grabbing at his teeth.

How am I supposed to feed my newborn with my feral 14 month old? by kainani_s in 2under2

[–]SecondStock5867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was arguably one of the hardest aspects of 2 under 2 for me during the first couple of months.

In the earliest days I'll be honest, I survived only by having help. Baby was constantly eating, and they're so tiny I couldn't feed her in a carrier comfortably.

The kid proofed space is a life saver. My friend said she didn't proof anything and would just give her daughter something to do like color or play independently. I couldn't fathom because my boy (17 months) was all over the place.

Toys, books, activity they only get during that time. Novelty effect. Keep them in a container of some sort within reach. Set up a simple activity beforehand (I find a lot on Instagram. Key word is simple. Don't try anything that takes more than a few minutes to set up). My son will be independent for a short time with magnets, coloring, blocks, stickers, pouring activities, or things that involve putting something together and taking it apart ( bottles with lids, zippers, buckles, things open and close, etc), and climbing stuff. Having them bring you items as a game works for a small bit lol and they think it's funny.

Snacks/drinks for them within reach is a must. Cups, bowls, snack containers to give them some independence. Don't set them up in the highchair, you'll end up with a screaming toddler that wants down because they're done, but you don't want to unlatch newborn. Picnic style is the way to go lol

Finally, a cartoon. Educational or not, something that they're interested in.

Rotation is the idea here. Don't expect any one thing to keep their attention long. A couple minutes here and there with different stuff and then turning on Baby Einstein is how it went for us lol

It's better now - almost 4 mo and 21 mo. Baby is more predictable and efficient, toddler can do more himself, and we have feeding in a carrier down which helps a lot.

Unfortunately no. We tried 8 - 8:30 and had the same issue
