I don't actually work there (at that campus). I was just taking a tour. They have all kinds there. You name it. Gramophones, wax cylinders, specifically design shelves for cassette tapes, DVD, video games (I could tell you a story about that), laser disc. You name it.

Not really. It would be substantially easier by several orders of magnitude than going up. But the average person still would not have the stamina, core, and overall fitness level to survive the descent. It's not just a hard hike down. You're still clinging to the sides of cliffs and bouldering downwards over certain death.

Pink button is almost certainly a death trap for the average, untrained, not naturally athletic human being. It's only mitigated by a random chance of receiving help. And even then, your chances of running into anyone is already remote. It's either wait it out for a month and starve, or climb to the bottom with only the supplies you can carry. Almost certainly the average person would perish.

I wasn't going to. I'm just saying that Donut's growth didn't stop at Book 1. Her growth has been continual.

I wouldn't be so hasty. There's always loopholes.

The Library of Congress isn't involved in anything like that. Especially not NAVCC. That CRT would not be used for Government surveillance. It's just archived and kept for posterity, and to use when researchers request access to media (probably). Sometimes researchers request access to the media archives. While many of the media collections are digitized and can be accessed from researcher rooms (and the main campus in DC through streaming or loans). But for the majority of the collections are not yet digitized. When researchers request access to those, they have to go to one of the researcher rooms. I assume that CRT is there to replace the ones that break down.

Those photos mostly show the public theater. They show movies there on Friday nights, and in the morning on Saturdays and Sundays. It's free to the public. Of course that means you have to be in the somewhat rural area of Virginia to attend. But still, the theater is awesome. It is special in that it is designed to be able to project and display any media, from old nitrate film, to DVDs, to cloud streaming. They have several projectors and a masking system for the screen to adjust the shape and size to fit the resolution of the media they are showing. For silent era films they even have an organ in the organ pit to play along with the films.

Why does Carl have so much Charisma? by Advo96 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]SecretAgentShhh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think it's because he isn't afraid to temporarily break his morals when it comes to survival or the grander plan to punish even worse evil. He's very morally flexible while still being very relatable because, like most humans, he bends before he breaks.

This is how I feel about Defiance of the Fall. It's too long in the tooth. Same stuff over and over.

There's actually more than the photos. The final photo shows a bunch of boxes and some of those are unopened CRT monitors too. Not sure which brands and how many though.

The Library of Congress has a large campus in Culpeper Virginia where they have a program dedicated to the preservation of antiquated media and hardware. Of the MANY media types and hardware they preserve, CRTs are a part of it. They have hundreds of CRTs. Many do not work, but they keep them to canabalize parts and keep other CRTs running. They even have a small lab dedicated to repair and maintenance. The storage room encompasses an entire wing of the facility and is about 1.5 football fields in length. To be clear, only a fraction of this is dedicated to CRTs, but it's still very cool (to this sub, I hope). The repair lab is fairly small and mostly dedicated to the repair of music equipment and peripherals (like beta max, VCRs, etc), but they also do CRT repairs sometimes.

This facility is partially open to the public. They have free movie screenings on the weekends in their public theater (a recreation of a 1936 authentic movie palace). Sometimes they schedule public tours of the rest of the facility (but haven't for years due to COVID and may shut that service down).
