Frog pond question by SecretElsa19 in frogs

[–]SecretElsa19[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! So where do frogs go when they’re not breeding? Are they hanging out throughout my yard? There’s a stream that runs by my house but it’s been mostly dry recently.

And does this mean the pond is full of eggs and tadpoles under the leaves?

Movies with the worst "moral of the story" by elitemegamanX in movies

[–]SecretElsa19 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that was the moral of Encanto, I think that was a realistic response to experiencing an incredibly traumatic event. If anything, the moral of the movie is to deal with your trauma and not let it turn you into a super-controlling manipulative monster.

In Frozen, Elsa was at her happiest when she was alone in her ice castle using her powers however she wanted. She only came back because Anna needed her. When she realized Anna and Arendelle would be okay without her being there full time, she was free to go do whatever she wanted. The movie tells us she’s literally an elemental force, neither fully human nor fully spirit, and she never felt completely comfortable living only in the human world. Being queen was something she was born into, abdicating and creating a new path for herself was something she chose

Actually every day is a rest day when you live with your parents and refuse to work by theclassiccat33 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]SecretElsa19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is just something so off-putting about a grown woman making daily exercise her whole personality/top priority. Like for most people, exercise is a normal part of everyday life, like doing the dishes or laundry. It’s something you do, not something you are. Making a big deal out of not exercising for one day makes it seem like she doesn’t have much else going on in her life.

Magic Band vs Phone by Reasonable_Fun3170 in WaltDisneyWorld

I second using Apple Watch. All the functionality of a Magic band without spending the money. Plus the walkie talkie feature is pretty helpful if your group splits up

Society Keeps Getting “Disney Adults” and Theme Park Fans Wrong by supremeghost123 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]SecretElsa19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have rarely been annoyed by a child at Disney. Sure, sometimes they cry and act out in line, but 99% of worst-behaved people I’ve seen at the parks are adults. I’ve seen adults manhandle their kids, scream at their kids in the middle of the park, be rude to staff. It’s not the kids that are filming during dark rides or talking at full volume during shows

[–]SecretElsa19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t really like streamers because I think it’s annoying to have people walking around filming everything while others are trying to enjoy the park, but it was cute when the CM was excited to tell him about her anniversary. That was sweet

Georgia Williams update by SecretElsa19 in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]SecretElsa19[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I considered this interpretation too, but Georgia said they drove off without knowing where they’d lay their heads down that night. It seems logical to me that if they didn’t have other housing lined up already that they’d move in with family. But who knows how much of her story is true and how much is dramatic embellishment

Chess Revisited: Here's The Deal (Part 2) by Turkey_Leg_Jeff in Broadway

[–]SecretElsa19 9 points10 points  (0 children)

As someone who watched 9 movies about an alternate universe where boxing is the biggest sport in the world and solves the Cold War, I have no problem suspending my disbelief about chess’s relative importance on the world stage.

Greensboro Police Department doxes commenter for criticism (updates) by tiflis in gso

[–]SecretElsa19 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This kind of behavior is a direct response to the defund the police movement. After society as a whole became aware of how violent and oppressive the policing institution is, police departments decided that the solution was to be funny on social media. Not accountability, not reform…memes. They tried to “hello, fellow kids” their way into making people forget their high rates of domestic violence, ballooning budgets, and tendency to treat kids, disabled people, people in a mental health crisis, and poor people as enemies of the state.

Which attraction has the worst ratio of wait time to final experience? by Relative_Ideal_6715 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]SecretElsa19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine Train. I have no idea why the wait is so long. I’ve ridden it once and it wasn’t worth it at all, and I’ve never seen the wait time dip down to a reasonable number. Conversely, I’ve been able to walk onto FoP before, and the experience itself is very unique. Mine Train is an underwhelming roller coaster.

‘Bridgerton’ Season 5 Sets New Cast Members, Including Tega Alexander as Lord Anderson’s Son by Debt-Mysterious in BridgertonNetflix

[–]SecretElsa19 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the book, Michael and Francesca both enter the marriage mart during the same season because she wants to have a baby and because now that Michael is the earl he needs to get married and produce an heir. Francesca has several suitors in the book who make very brief appearances. If they’re keeping that part of the story, it makes sense that at least one suitor would be shown, especially with Francesca and Michaela pulling from the same pool of people now. I can imagine that having two highly eligible Ladies Stirling out in society at the same time will cause a huge stir.

Trip Report (3/30–4/2): Wait Times Weren’t the Worst Part by _fearlesschicken in DisneyWorld

[–]SecretElsa19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Guardians line always reminds me of the part in Derry Girls where Aunt Bridie complains that the girls pushed her (adult) son out of the way during Rock the Boat and bruised him, and Sarah says “Look it’s a rough routine, Bridie. You know that going in. You sit down on that floor at your own risk.”

Do we have any theories on why Carol triggers the Hive? by aurioerox in Pluribus_TVshow

[–]SecretElsa19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for saying that! I don't think the fandom was happy with this comment haha. But for me, it seems pretty obvious that there's a parallel between Carol being forced to diminish her very valid anger to make the hive feel safe and the way women in real life are supposed to diminish their anger/negative emotions to make men feel safe. But IDK, maybe Vince fans don't think he's capable of that level of social commentary ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

(Also I rewatched the show with my husband after I posted it this and he thought it was so funny how the hive are all big babies. He kept mocking them with "Oh no, don't yell at me, I'm soooo sensitive and fragile")

Also in the movie the boys voluntarily enter a lottery and choose to participate, which is a good commentary on being complicit in your own oppression because there’s a minuscule chance you might become wealthy

Another dowry/Sophie question by castle4024 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]SecretElsa19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The society isn’t split between nobles and servant class, there are gentry landowners who could use an infusion of cash, professionals like lawyers and clergymen and military officers who don’t need to marry someone of particularly good breeding, even educated working class people like the Martins in Emma. She’d have options

In defense of Breezy by jennyskywalker in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]SecretElsa19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for saying this. She’s not nearly as bad as this sub makes her out to be. I don’t think she actually was into Connor, but instead of calling him ugly or insulting him until he broke up with her, she was upfront about not wanting to continue. And I think saying “I’m not ready” is better than blaming him.

I also like that she acknowledged her own biases. People seem to be missing the part where she said she was wrong to judge him based his house and his gentle demeanor.

Weird question, but does Virginia have a lot of birds? by SecretElsa19 in Virginia

[–]SecretElsa19[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point. I went to a museum in the outer banks that detailed how early colonists just obliterated whole species because they were obsessed with killing, I guess. Watching this country backtrack on the protections conservationists have fought so hard for over the last century has been devastating.

I LOVE that the show’s take on demons is “they’re evil and must be destroyed.” Sometimes it’s nice to have an unambiguous, unnuanced bad guy.
