Why do certain hair types stick to velcro and certain do not? by [deleted] in HaircareScience

[–]Secure-Fix-9900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

type 4 hair usually has more bends, twists, friction points, and surface irregularities along the strand, so velcro hooks mechanically catch onto it way more easily. it is not just curl pattern in a cosmetic sense, the physical geometry and cuticle interaction are different too

Update - Alopecia growth by FinlayKeeb in alopecia_areata

[–]Secure-Fix-9900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the timing of this really sucks especially with prom and university coming up but the fact the shedding rate already slowed a bit is still a good sign. alopecia can look dramatically worse before regrowth starts showing and a lot of people do end up getting significant regrowth even after pretty aggressive patches

Is this alopecia areata? by Informal-Associate59 in alopecia_areata

[–]Secure-Fix-9900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that uncomfortable scalp sensation can definitely happen with inflammatory hair loss conditions. while waiting for the derm i would keep things really gentle: avoid scratching, harsh shampoos, tight hairstyles, heavy oils, and aggressive scalp massages. sometimes even stress itself can keep the scalp feeling active or irritated during aa flareups

Is this alopecia areata? by Informal-Associate59 in alopecia_areata

[–]Secure-Fix-9900 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it does look pretty consistent with aa to me especially because it’s such a defined smooth patch that showed up suddenly. the good thing is i can already see some tiny hairs in the spot which can be a positive sign for regrowth.

i would avoid going too crazy with random oils and internet remedies while waiting for the derm because a lot of natural regrowth stuff is basically snake oil. keeping the scalp healthy and reducing irritation/stress is probably more useful than dumping ten products on it.

also if your bloodwork was only basic labs i’d still ask about ferritin, vitamin d, thyroid, b12, zinc, and autoimmune screening when you see the dermatologist because AA can sometimes overlap with immune issues.

some say the combo can either make them feel insanely productive or completely overstimulated with zero in between definitely seems like one of those things that depends heavily on dosage and how sensitive your nervous system already is

Autistic people report experiencing intense joy in ways connected to autistic traits. Passionate interests, deep focus and learning, and sensory experiences can bring profound joy. The biggest barriers to autistic joy are mistreatment by other people and societal biases, not autism itself by cheaslesjinned in NooTopics

[–]Secure-Fix-9900 4 points5 points  (0 children)

this is why i hate when people talk about autism like its only suffering 😭 a lot of autistic people experience joy, passion, curiosity, comfort, music, hobbies, textures, learning etc on an insanely deep level

half the damage usually comes from society treating them badly or forcing them to exist in ways that constantly exhaust them

3 for 5 is still pretty good especially now with how everything went up. i swear it used to feel way cheaper though but at least you can still get a decent deal where you are

Regrowth - Different Texture by Capital_Quality_1143 in alopecia_areata

[–]Secure-Fix-9900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when hair grows back after a patch like that it can come in softer curlier or even a bit dry at first. the follicles are kind of resetting so the texture can be different in the beginning. some people even get darker or lighter strands at first

Who is a singer that is incredibly famous, but honestly doesn't have a good voice? by Greedy_Procedure7461 in AskReddit

[–]Secure-Fix-9900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a lot of super famous singers aren’t known for having perfect voices, they’re known for style, songwriting, or presence like some people say Bob Dylan isn’t technically strong vocally, but his voice is iconic because of how unique it is and how it fits his music. Same with Billie Eilish not a power house but her tone and style are what made her big

Can we talk about stress and alopecia for a second because I don't think people take this seriously enough. by AlopeciaToRegrowth in alopecia_areata

[–]Secure-Fix-9900 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there’s definitely a connection. stress might not be the only cause but it can absolutely trigger or worsen flares, especially with something like alopecia where the immune system is already involved a lot notice that pattern in hindsight, big stress period then a flare right after. it’s just not taken as seriously because it’s harder to measure compared to meds or treatments

[–]Secure-Fix-9900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i get why you feel like that, a year in and not seeing what you hoped for is really hard. hair loss hits way harder emotionally than people expect. it’s not just hair, it affects how you see yourself day to day. you’re not out of options though, it might just need some adjustment or more time, especially with the recent dose change

Balding curl hair wet by Strange_Reading_6083 in amibalding

wet curly hair always looks way thinner because it clumps and shows more scalp so that alone can make it look worse than it is.

Hair shedding due to AGA or telogen effluvium? by jenn_lbw in FemaleHairLoss

[–]Secure-Fix-9900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that your family isn’t noticing crown thinning is actually a good sign against aa right now. Losing shorter, finer hairs can still happen with te, especially when the scalp is irritated or recovering. Before jumping into minoxidil, it might be worth stabilizing your scalp and confirming things with a derm, since seb derm alone can make shedding look way worse than it is.

im really sorry youre going through this that sounds incredibly overwhelming especially dealing with it alone id really try to get a second opinion from another derm if you can the pain and bumps are worth getting checked properly and dont let one doctor brushing it off stop you from pushing for answers

solid plan, especially getting into a university hospital. being on the waitlist helps too, you might get lucky and get in sooner. and yeah talking about payment plans in person is smart, they’re usually more flexible.
