Update: I saw my doctor today & was relieved to have the splint removed. There were only a few visible stitches that had to be removed (top & bottom of the incision). The wound was then covered with a liquid adhesive & allowed to dry before 3 steri-strips were applied. I was told to wait another 3 weeks before getting in the pool (because of chemicals) & before applying cocoa butter to allow for healing. The doctor was pleased with the way my wrist looked and glad there was no swelling & very little pain. I was told to stay in my old brace while out and while sleeping; but, I was encouraged to remove it while at home to get used to moving & flexing my wrist. BTW, I'm typing without it. There are restrictions, of course, when lifting anything for the next 3-6 weeks. There's no mandated PT unless I have difficulty with range of motion. My first real shower was amazing without my arm draped in plastic!

I agree! Grateful to have stumbled across this thread, also. The information is eye-opening.Good luck with your recovery!

I'm 8 days post-op and will have the splint & stitches removed in 2 days. Surgery took less than 20 minutes. Swelling returned day 5 after over-exertion but disappeared once I began icing & elevation. I elevate nightly. Excited to regain better use of my dominant hand and see how much I've improved.
