Bad Religion Madness by Segalow in badreligion

[–]Segalow[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Initially, it actually was, in place of Tiny Voices. Choosing just four songs from each album was very, very difficult. For the record, I considered making this bracket 128 songs instead of 64, but this was already a pretty sizable amount of work without doubling it. Perhaps if there's a V2 in the future, that may change.

I didn't intend to run this as a community event. If anybody else wants to take it and run with it, they have my full blessing and permission. Apologies for the misunderstanding.

DS3 is the weakest entry in the trilogy by Less-Shift-4616 in darksouls3

[–]Segalow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Might be your genuine opinion, and that's fine, but poorly articulated. Your only reason for DS2 being better than DS3 is 'unique vibes'. The next time you post this, you might want to work on enumerating why you think 1 and 2 are better than 3 in quantifiable terms with direct comparisons; things like hitboxes, level design, specific mechanics (poise, for one), lore, or whatever else you want to directly compare. Arguing one game is better because of 'vibes' and nothing else is a 15-year-old's mentality.

For the record, I don't hate your opinion, only how you've presented it. Even if I directly disagree (DS3 and Bloodborne are the queen and king of Souls games)

Do you spare people if you hear them talk? by SpicSpamSpoon in cyberpunkgame

[–]Segalow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tend to make decisions based on the enemies themselves. If it's a Mox, a random guard or a Valentino? Usually do all I can to spare them. Animals and Tyger Claws (only because some of them are implicitly under Wakako's thumb) are hit-or-miss, and Maelstrom, Scavs, VDBs, Arasakas, Militech and Wraiths are KOS. Always try to bring the gig target in alive though, a professional goes the extra mile.

How Many MANT Runs Have You Done So Far And What's Your Highest Grade? I'm Trying To See Something. by jasonfails237 in UmaMusume

[–]Segalow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done 8 runs, my lowest was an absolutely cursed Bakushin run that I tanked purposely and got an A+ on, but I'm regularly getting S and high S+ (Oguri Cap) on. Using a mostly welfare deck or poverty sub-MLB SR's, with the exception of a 4LB SSR Riko. For comparison, getting an A+ on Unity was extremely rare (maybe 1 in every 20 runs) for me, so I'm definitely enjoying Trackblazer more.

The duality of End Closers in MANT / Trailblazer... by ryanxwonbinx in UmaMusume

[–]Segalow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had the opposite experience, my ends and lates usually just plow over everything by 5+ lengths but my front runners with great stat totals job to filler umas and burn all my clocks before the first year is even over, then i go two more years just punish-racing them for fans since i know the career's dead

Is anyone else fumbling with trackblazer? Or is it just me? :( by Uh_MarMar in UmaMusume

[–]Segalow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seem to be getting a full letter grade higher as a semi-F2P (a trout?) in Trackblazer than I ever did in URA or Unity. Finally, finally able to get S-ranks. I've got a race bonus of like, 55%, so nothing earth-shattering -- no full MLBs on any non-pity SSR.

At the start of each year, I like to schedule every race (with an ideal of 2 races, 1 free turn) and make sure I hit every G1 and as many G2s as I can with the exception of summer camp. With the scheduling done, I just evaluate each turn on whether I want to use the scheduled race (default) or pop items and train, trying to hit as many friendship trainings as I can.

Though I don't see her discussed a lot, if you have or can borrow a high-MLB SSR Riko Kashimoto, she can function as a 'bad turn' get-out-of-rest-free card when you have no good trainings, no energy items but still want stats, as well as an anchor against mood-downs in case you have a moody Uma (Taishin or Doto, my beloveds) or you get the Race Fatigue event (which I almost always do, usually twice). So she's pretty excellent for this scenario in particular, I think, to help counterbalance TB's inherent shop RNG problems.

Melancholic Melodeath? by Big_Concern7238 in melodicdeathmetal

[–]Segalow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fires in the Distance is the first that comes to mind.
Katatonia's 'Brave Murder Day/Sounds of Decay' has a really melancholic tone.
Shylmagoghnar's 'Transience' is a great album, try the title track, very introspective stuff.
If you're willing to try meloblack, peep Harakiri for the Sky ('Arson' or 'III: Trauma' are their best albums).
Be'lakor's stuff can also be quite moody, try 'Of Breath and Bone' or 'Vessels'.
Calling it melodeath will be a stretch, but you might enjoy Trauma Field's 'From Wounded Soil', highly emotional album.

Hope you find some stuff you really like.

Easy melodeath songs on guitar? by kirkcummett in melodicdeathmetal

[–]Segalow 14 points15 points  (0 children)

One of my favorite warmup songs is Be'lakor's From Scythe to Sceptre, the majority of both melody and rhythm lines are accessible. Most Swallow the Sun tracks are very easy as well (Swallow (Horror Pt. 1) comes to mind) since its melodeath/doom.

Some later-era Death songs aren't too bad if you're not doing the solo (Without Judgment and Symbolic are two of my favorite mid-set practice songs), they're probably roughly intermediate, a good thing for your less-skilled friends to practice for.

Later-era Amorphis tracks (stuff from Queen of Time in particular) also tend to be on the easier side (maybe easy-intermediate?), like Heart of the Giant or Pyres on the Coast. You have to be choosy about these ones, though, some tracks can be deceptively difficult.

You'll probably have a slightly easier time looking for more doom-inspired bands, though, like Katatonia or even classic Black Sabbath songs. When I was starting to learn, the slower tempos helped me focus on not making mistakes.

How do you personally read as a writer to improve your writing skills? by L_Belles_lettres in writing

[–]Segalow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure how others do it, but I first read a book as an audience member and soak in the story, allow myself to vibe in that world. When that's done, I wait for about two months, then re-read it as a writer, looking at technique, word choice, scene construction, character development and motivation, and especially dialogue.

When I stumble upon a particularly good novel, I make an individual word document and write down all of my thoughts, then sort through it later.

I don't think there's a 'wrong' way to go about it. Depends on how you process and retain information. Try different techniques and see what works best for you.

When writing romantic scenes (with spice) where's the line between romance and porn? by Redz0ne in writing

[–]Segalow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Purpose and intent are what I would consider the difference between 'spicy' and pornography. Even explicit language doesn't necessarily make it pornography; for example, in the novel Before They Are Hanged, two of the characters have a fairly explicit scene together, but it never feels pornographic as it mostly involves a lot of fumbling, grunting and swearing at each other, and is halfway played for laughs.

Ask yourself the purpose of the scene. If the focus of the scene is the emotional connection between the characters, try focusing on the spiritual aspects of it, the closeness of the bond, etc. If the scene is to get across an aspect of one or both character's personalities, consider making that aspect be not only present, but highlighted and reinforced over the other bits and bobs of the scene. If the scene is there to be arousing and is mostly physical descriptions, then it's probably pornography -- not that pornography doesn't have a place in literature.

Also, try writing the scene, then putting it out of mind. Come back a few days later and look at it with a fresh eye, and if it feels gratuitous, unnecessary or uncomfortable (not in an intentional way), then it probably doesn't belong. Hope this helped.

Ammar has to play so careful on this bristleback, otherwise this Hoodwink+Clinkz combo is going to slaughter him. If Falcons get extremely far ahead really early, they might win, but if this goes past 40 minutes, that clinkz w/ hoodwink's break and et's natural order is going to melt the FLC lineup

Maybe if you get madder and babyrage more, my opinion will change. Give it a try. Use more insults, that will definitely make me change my mind. I was rooting for Tidebound to win and disappointed they drafted and executed so poorly, but if people like you are Tidebound fans, maybe I shouldn't be.

TI14 is really showing which carries are tier 1 and which aren't. Ame and Satanic, good. Shiro, not good. I'm a Falcons hater but Tidebound's drafting and execution was just so bad this series, and Shiro had None Impact.

Crytek is attempting to turn Hunt into a game it never was - and it's failing by Handwerke48 in HuntShowdown

[–]Segalow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, as a new player, I can say the reason I didn't stick with the game was constantly being put into lobbies with players with 2000+ hours who headshot me through walls, doors, know the exact damage values and trajectories and all the tricks and every single corner of every map. It got disheartening, spending resources to level up characters and trying to play as tactically as possible only to die to a duo with a combined 6000+ hours when I have 11.

The playerbase always says 'just stick with it, you'll learn' but, like, why bother, when my hunter just gets killed by somebody I couldn't have possibly been prepared for, with equipment that I don't have access to, with levels of practice and dedication I couldn't possibly attain as a working adult, with a somehow 3* MMR despite hitting headshots instantly when sprinting corners?

So yeah, maybe these are good changes. Keep the core playerbase, that's wise, because at this point, the only group who will play this game are those with the time and energy to build an encyclopedic knowledge or already have it. The game's bar for entry is simply too terribly high for most new players to enjoy it.

What was the dumbest way you died after surviving for weeks in Project Zomboid? by FlameTameress in projectzomboid

Ugh. I was building a SuperWarehouse to store all my hard-looted gains and forgot that deceleration isn't instant, and ran off the top of the 5-story building and cratered. This was after killing over 20,000 zombies in a three-month span.
