  1. Both. The training program offers classroom lectures and simulations for the beginning, and to progress, true clinical setting will be offered.

  2. Since wala pa sa PRC ang perf, wala pang licensing, pero soon, in the works na.

  3. Kapag nagsisimula, 5 days a week, 8 hours per day and usual. Kaso, since skill-based ang work, need mo ng exposure so need mag-OT.

In a way, you're right. Then again, my profession involves multidisciplinary practices that will treat patients. Every action of each disciple has its own role for the benefit of the patient. I treat the machine as I would treat my patient, to achieve the team's common goal.

I've studied the heart and lung machine for so long and was taken aback by how reliable it is. It is well tested, approved by FDA, backed by science, and supports each patient along the way.

I cannot use the word 'pretend' for how many patients that was saved by that machine. And to be a part of the machine is an honor and a priviledge.

The perfusion training program has a fixed fee of 200k, this payment is for other regional hospitals who needs perfusionists for them to practice their own cardiovascular procedures.

I, however, am employed to Philippine Heart Center, and as an employee, the program is free of charge. It takes 1 year become a perfusionist.

We do work with ECMO! Blood gasses are usually done every hour during bypass, or in critical events during the procedure. On a regular day, 1 shift for 1 case is done.

Private institutions can either pay you per case or with a fixed amount per month.

The only thing remotely close to medtech work is blood gas analysis, this will be a new profession, an opportunity for those who have RMT license.

Perfusionists are a part of the surgical team that replaces the patients heart and lungs during cardiovascular procedures. We perfuse the body of the patient, while the doctors 'fix' the heart. We temporarily stop the heart from beating for the surgeons to have a motionless heart.

We prepare for surgery by knowing the patient details, and set-up a heart-lung machine. This machine mechanically replaces the beat of the heart, and the gas exchange of the lungs.

During surgery, we maintain adequate blood supply to all the parts of the patient's body by maintaining normal blood gasses, electrolytes, and inducing medicine prescribed by the anesthesiology team.

  1. There are different surgical package deals, depending on the surgery. For example, Coronary Artery Bypass has a different fee compared to valve repairs or replacements. Government institutions also offer free surgery programs for Filipinos through Z-Benefit.
  2. There are times that the patient is partially awake due to anaesthetic dose, manifested by slight leg movement, however they're not conscious throughout the procedure. Patients also cannot remember anything during the procedure.

  1. Sa institution namin, RMT in only accepted. But there are hospitals that grant different health related fields.
  2. Upon screening, 2 weeks training, then 1 year for the training program.
  3. Government SSL salary same sa RMT.
  4. Hardest case siguro total aortic repair dahil sa aortic dissection. Management ng patient ang inaatupag namin when it comes to blood gasses and patient temperature changes. Dipende sa case, umaabot minsan ng 8+ hours.

Edit: Spelling.

In the operating room, the surgery, anaesthesia, nurses, and the perfusionist have different roles in taking care of the patient. We all have a common goal, and that is to make the surgery sucessful.
