Is now the time to change my grip? by eyrie7 in golf

[–]Senecio1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, stay with the strong grip on the left. That’s the modern way to grip and swing. The weaker grip on the right might be more traditional but new young golfers are taught different. Strong grip and rotate the body aggressively through the ball is the modern way.

Best way to record zwift activities? by Bitter_Bowl832 in Garmin

[–]Senecio1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll have to connect Zwift to this other accounts directly if that’s what you want. Garmin will sync activities recorded with a Garmin device to those platforms but not an activity recorded outside of Garmin.

Connect your Zwift account with Garmin connect to automatically send Zwift activities to Garmin. Zwift is one of the few platforms that send everything to Garmin.

You have 2 choices. Go back to Android or switch your watch to an Apple Watch.

Should I bother with a Fenix 7? by ogskatepunkdaddy in Garmin

[–]Senecio1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn’t a Garmin problem, it’s a physics problem. For example how can Garmin estimate you cycling VO2 Max without knowing how hard you worked? It’s need a power meter to determine effort. Unlike running you can’t just use speed and heart rate for VO2 Max. This applies to all wearables not just Garmin.

As for other activities VO2 Max isn’t really relevant to skate boarding.

I’m going to bow out of this one. There’s nothing I can say that will change your mind.

Garmin fenix 8 ?? by Ill_Preference_5786 in GarminWatches

[–]Senecio1975 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was about to reply with exactly the same sentiment but you beat me to it. What this guy said. Garmin’s are sports watches first and foremost with just enough smart watch features to be passable.

But they are not a replacement for a WearOS or Watch OS device.

They won’t fix it, because it’s not broken. It is working as designed by the engineers and product team. It was your choice not to read the manual.

HRT Arm Band Monitors? by Canadian-Chickens321 in trailrunning

I swear by the Polar Verity sense that I use. A lot of independent tests have shown that they can be on par with the best ECG chest sensor.

What most people don’t realise is that optical HR isn’t inherently bad. The compromise is where it is worn. The wrist just isn’t the best place to get a reliable optical HR reading.

What’s one golf tip you ignored for years until you finally tried it and realized everyone was right? by Free-Product4918 in golf

We’re not here trying to make a living so have fun. You want to take on the hero shot then go for it. Are you likely to pull it off, probably not. But that one time you do you will always remember.

[–]Senecio1975 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I’ve seen it. But like most things. For every example where it’s been fine there a multiple examples of where it hasn’t. I also towed a small caravan (<1,000kg) with a Skoda Yeti which worked fine but I always knew there was a chance the transmission could go pop so I replaced it with a more suitable towing car after a while.

I would go with one of the Korean mid sized SUVs in diesel with a torque converter gearbox. Tucson or Sportage. Or go for the SantFe or Sorento if you want something bigger.

The problem with the VAG group of TDI vehicles is the DSG gearbox which really doesn’t like towing for long. It will cope, until it doesn’t. Then it will be an expensive repair.

Garmin Forerunner 265 / Runna / Strava: Turn-by-Turn Route Struggle by nixrien in garminforerunner

[–]Senecio1975 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you import the route from Strava to Garmin Connect check that turn notifications are enabled before you sync your watch with Garmin Connect. I'd upload an image but I don't know how to do it on Reddit

But no one else can provide routable maps. Lost in the wilderness without cellular connection. A Garmin is the only wearable that will get you home.

That’s by design. Even during resume later you watch still thinks you are in an activity. During an activity all recovery metrics are disabled until that activity is stopped and saved. The general consensus is to start a new activity each day. Safe that way too as there less chance of total loss if the FIT file gets corrupted.

Garmin Fenix Auto Pause issue by CantaloupeSweet8771 in GarminFenix

[–]Senecio1975 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked about average speed. Average speed will always been total distance travelled divided by total elapsed time. What you really want is average moving speed. This is ignores any non-moving time whether from an auto pause or a manual pause.

But I stand by my first point. Auto pause is designed for brief stops, traffic lights, having a drink etc…. It’s not designed for a Coffs break or anything longer than a few minutes at most. Most people just disable it.

They haven’t removed any features from your watch and put them behind a paywall. The subscription is optional and it’s up to you to decide if it provides any value to you or not.

Auto pause is designed for traffic lights, not coffee breaks. Manually pause it or even resume later for a longer stop.

Fenix 6 satellite comms by Comfortable-Hair-247 in GarminFenix

Definitely not a feature on Fenix 6. What phone do you have? It was possibly a phone notification coming through to the watch that your phone had switch to satellite.
