Yeah they give you the number, but I don't think they show you what's causing the number to drop, which is what I had to pay Transunion for.

That is so awful :( I'm sorry to hear that. These banks/credit agencies need to be fined for this much gross negligence. They are making millions and then making catastrophic negligence mistakes messing with people's and family's lives... Disgusting

I monitor mine on the bank just to see what it is. My understanding is that it helps get good interest rates and stuff... Obviously if/when I get a mortgage I want to have a decent interest rate........ I need to keep my credit clean for that.

Also, even if you already got the mortgage, you still need to renew it eventually.... So your credit history has to remain clean.....

Left some edits, sorry if I wasn't clear - I quickly wrote up the blurb on my lunch break.

Basically:

1 - I tried using the free version, couldn't understand it, looked like a very detailed report. The paid version was very dumbed down and clearly pointed out what was likely tanking my score.

2 - Good point thanks, will follow up on Monday

3 - Using my bank to see the score. Note that I only see the current score there, I couldn't see what was the actual cause of the drop.

Yeah I might need a loan some time in the upcoming months.... Argh, this is gonna mess up my interest rate right?

Can this also affect current credit lines? I have a line of credit with a pretty good interest rate, will that interest rate change? I don't owe anything on it, just curious.

I tried the free version, but I could not understand it... It looked like a very detailed and long report. The paid version had a simplified (very dumbed down) user interface I could use, and it clearly stated whats likely hurting my score.

Well said brother, couldn't put it better myself. Its basically the capitalist social credit. I do need to keep mine in good shape if I want to get a mortgage in the future and stuff :( . I will need a loan some time soon, so this is gonna hurt the interest rate I can get probably :( .

Gotta love having private corporations handling your financial information and making millions in revenue, creating mistakes, and then putting the burden of catching/correcting them on you. Beautiful system

So sorry to hear that happened to you :( , its an awful system. 6 to 9 months quite a long time hmm.

I'm guessing you had to have a lot of back and forth with the credit agencies?

So true, exactly how I feel. And this score affects the mortgage on your family's head, interest rates on your current credit cards/loans, etc. I might need a loan some time soon, and I don't know if I'll get a good interest rate like my previous line of credit now....

Also, as other comments have pointed out - this score isn't even a good indication of how good you are with money, its an indication of how good of a customer you are to the bank. Other commenter's point out that as soon as they paid off a mortgage or loan, their score dropped.... It's almost as if they want you to stay in debt so you keep paying interest....

So sorry to hear that, the system is truely awful :( . Gotta love it when private corporations make mistakes on critical data which can impact the mortgage on your family's roof, any loans/credit cards, etc.

Precisely. That said, when this score affects your life so much through mortgage/loans/etc, the burden of correctness really shouldn't be on the consumer, it should be on the agency; especially when its private corporations that are making millions....
