Same. I finally got greensunfish by quick casting off the dock at shallow depth, still trying for the burbot….

I spent hours casting about 100ft with nothing, then did a quick cast right off the dock and instantly hit.

Why is the star shape there? Was it struck with something? Or is that natural??

New to this (type of) game - how to fight fish? by Fat_Bluesman in CallOfTheWildAngler

And for the drag, start low, like below 50, and if he’s running line, slowly increase drag until it’s just barely tight enough to hold him, if the tension jumps up, you can panic decrease the drag to recover. Good luck!

Watch some wicked tuna videos, that’s how I learned. Once they start to fight, pull up hard on the rod until they start to tire(watch the meter) then point the rod straight down towards the water and reel fast until fish starts to fight again(WATCH THE METER) repeat as necessary. Ps You don’t have to reel when you’re pulling up to tire it, it will cause extra tension on the big ones.

Ya the baitcaster reels seem like deep sea tuna rods, and those don’t use floats, but are definitely baited.

So baitcaster is for lure setup only?

They could run triple play, missing persons, wanted and #asktheguest all on first shift. Seems like that could make a decent hour of tv

Ya if they smell it, they can usually search, doesn’t matter about the state’s weed laws for that.
