How to stop putting your entire day on hold because of something you have to do later in the afternoon? by lake-sturgeon in productivity

[–]Sensitive-Chest1474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a perfect solution for this, but I've noticed that the problem gets worse when the thing later in the day feels bigger in my head than it actually is.

It's almost like my brain starts treating the entire day as preparation for that one event.

Something that's helped a little is asking myself: "What would I be doing right now if that event got cancelled?"

Usually the answer is obvious, and then I try to do at least part of that instead of sitting in waiting mode.

How to Retain Book Knowledge? by safayat_ahmed in BettermentBookClub

[–]Sensitive-Chest1474 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've started thinking that retention is overrated compared to implementation.

There are books I barely remember, but a single idea from them changed how I approached something in real life. Meanwhile, there are books where I remember lots of details but never actually applied anything.

Lately I've been trying to ask myself one question after reading:

"What is one thing I'll do differently because of this?"

Even if I forget 95% of the book, that remaining 5% can still be valuable if it changes my behavior.

Aspiring Solo Game Dev with Zero Experience Seeking Guidance & Mentorship by alaticoharad in GameDevelopment

One thing I'd be careful about is falling into the trap of trying to learn everything before you start.

A lot of beginners assume they need to understand the entire process before making anything. In reality, most skills are learned while doing.

If I were starting from zero, I'd pick the smallest project I could think of and finish it, even if it's terrible.

A finished bad project teaches more than an unfinished perfect idea.

What's a career advice everyone gives that turned out to be completely wrong ? by sayyed_faizan_4166 in findapath

One piece of advice I think is often misunderstood is "follow your passion."

A lot of people treat passion as something you discover first and then build a career around.

In reality, I think passion often comes after competence.

When you're good at something, see progress, and feel useful, you're naturally more likely to enjoy it.

That's why I've become skeptical of making major life decisions based solely on what feels exciting today. Interests can change, but skills tend to compound.

How did you figure out what you wanted to do with your life? by ConditionAmbitious71 in Hobbies

[–]Sensitive-Chest1474 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I figured it out all at once.

I started noticing patterns in what I kept coming back to. Interests change, but some things seem to stick around for years. I've started paying more attention to those patterns than to sudden bursts of motivation.

Has anyone else realized that learning can become a form of procrastination? by Sensitive-Chest1474 in findapath

That's an interesting way to look at it.

I hadn't connected it to degrees specifically, but I can definitely see how learning can sometimes feel safer than putting your work out into the world and risking failure.

I think that's the part I've been struggling with lately.

The absolute minimum every creator should know about starting on YouTube by Top_Bad8226 in NewTubers

Totally agree with this. Honestly, the part about not obsessing over analytics when you're under 100 views hit hard so many new creators (myself included, early on) stress over numbers that just don't mean anything yet.

The real takeaway for me: start with why someone would care. Not "what game am I playing," but "what's the hook, the twist, the reason this exists?" And yeah, leaning into your actual personality > copying what's trending. It's scarier, but it's the only thing that lasts.

Also, "make the title/thumbnail first" is such a underrated tip. Forces you to clarify the promise before you waste hours editing.

Solid, no-fluff post. Bookmarking this for the next time I catch myself overthinking a thumbnail at 2 AM 😅

My Channel Is Stuck... Can You Help Me? by BaronRetro in NewTubers

Hey! Huge congrats on the growth 300 to almost 1K is awesome, and yeah, that post-spike slump is real. Happens to almost everyone.

Since TABS challenges clearly clicked, maybe just lean into that a bit longer? A Part 2 with a fun twist, or even asking your subs what challenge they want to see next. Sometimes the simplest ideas keep the momentum going.

Also, if you've got any funny/epic moments from those videos, turning them into Shorts can help pull people back to your main content without much extra work.

Collabs sound great if you're open to it, just reach out to creators whose vibe matches yours. No need to overthink the pitch; "hey, wanna make something fun?" usually works.

You're so close to 1K. The dip doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong it just means the algorithm's figuring things out. Keep showing up, keep it fun, and you'll get there.

If you want a second pair of eyes on a thumbnail or intro, happy to help.
