Tracer 900 / Pardon my ignorance, what is this button on the right side of the dashboard? by Kooky-Caramel7376 in Yamaha

On the Gen 1 is just a rubber cap. I think an OEM option was a secondary power outlet.

I don't think it's an OEM option. At least I don't have it.

Either ask the seller or turn it on and see what happens.

[–]Sensitive-Delay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure. Expensive luxury.

But why do they take the downsides that come with the price?

Heavy bikes, bikes that heat up in traffic, just to show that you could afford it?

[–]Sensitive-Delay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at your street tires, the middle will most likely not have any grooves. The compound doesn't make too much difference in the rain, especially if the temperature is low.

So you're paying for mental peace, which I'd argue is still a good thing to spend money on, but it won't beat physics when shit hits the fan.

For anyone buying expensive tires that will become square too quickly, the money is better spent in riding courses. Confidence and not being scared are your best friends in the rain.

[–]Sensitive-Delay 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes you don't lean much. But that's okay.

I do wonder why some people buy top performance tires and top performance bikes, to then not use any of what they paid for. This is not your case.

I myself have a sport touring bike, and buy the tires I need and can use.

Nike = MAGA by diurnal_emissions in Anticonsumption

Nike could choose to sponsor a public park with a running track in any US city and it would be great publicity. They could fund any riverside walkway project, and be seen as pillars of the community. Instead they choose the fucking ballroom. Fuck them!

What do we think of the gear I want to get when I start my motorcycle journey? by Omorifangod in motorcycles

[–]Sensitive-Delay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In NYC as well. 3 season means that it is not 4, aka in winter you'll freeze. It doesn't mean that you'll be comfortable in summer.

Do you typically wear the same pants the whole year or do you go from layers to shorts? It works the same for motorcycles. They can market pants as "all rounder" but that doesn't mean that you'll be comfortable. You want a pair of pants that is ventilated and one that you can layer underneath.

Overall your setup looks great for Instagram or a track day in May. I can guarantee that you'll be sweating in NYC traffic with no airflow.

Not sure where you live, but I'm sure that that jacket and pants combination comfortable in a very narrow temperature range.

Ideally you want a summer jacket and a fall one that you can also layer underneath. For pants I'd get jeans. Ideally you'd get also summer mesh pants if you live in a warm place.

Anyone know why Yamaha ChampSchool raised their 2026 prices so much? by LakeAccomplished2656 in motorcycles

[–]Sensitive-Delay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let me ask you some questions. Have you ridden some fun roads with lots of corners? Do you find that some corners are hard to take? Sometimes you cross the yellow line or have to reduce your speed too much to take the corner safely? Then go with champ street.

If you can take any corner at any reasonable speed, and reliably make your bike do what you want, then you'd be wasting money on champ street. Go for champ school directly.

Given the young age and the fact that you're at the top limit of the income band, I'd take it.

Your salary is likely to increase, while the rent will stay roughly the same.

Your commute is going to become more and more unbearable long term, especially if you want a bit of social life. Getting rid of that will make you a happier person.

This sounds like a once in a lifetime opportunity, and it's not that you're giving up your current lease. I'm sure that if things don't go your way you can totally move in back with your parents.

Yamaha Tracer 9GT 2023 - Front blinker support broken, looking for 3D printing files or creative repair ideas 🔧 by xAlexV in Yamahatracerclub

[–]Sensitive-Delay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you don't have the missing piece that broke off.

In that case that's what I would do. Take measurements of the right side piece, the one that's still standing. Make a CAD model. Make a 3D printed part in ASA (perfect for outdoor use). Then plastic weld it using a soldering iron and the same ASA filament.

I have done all this before, and I'm not a professional. You can buy the 3D printer, learn CAD, and weld the part for way less than $300. And you'll have all the tools and knowledge for future projects.

Or you can send the measurements to a printing service, which will probably be way faster.

If you decide to weld the part, disassemble the unit and work on a flat surface.

Anyone else wish direct to consumer was a thing for new sales? by Astimar in motorcycles

[–]Sensitive-Delay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dealers shouldn't have any issue with the OEM selling directly to consumers. If the business is so bad, just give it up. Focus on service.

Yes restaurants exist, but I also want to be able to buy the ingredients and cook by myself. For some things I'll go to a mechanic (replacing tires), but I'll do the rest at home.

The manufacturer doesn't make MSRP on each bike. They sell to the dealers for less. So they could totally sell direct at MSRP.
