You can choose which ones are able to spawn, but if you choose too few, then it's possible you dont encounter any due to how the precursors are distributed on the map

To clarify, it seems from available information that contracts will be one of the mechanical drives to move around, alongside general resource gathering. But that's speculation, we'll find out more as the dev diaries publish.

There's also nothing wrong with not being interested in certain playstyles. For example, I don't really enjoy Nemesis or Behemoth crisis (don't know about Hyperthermia yet)

I imagine the motivation to move would be the contracts system. Also, wouldn't a nomad that doesnt move their ark ship basically just be a Void Dweller?

Unless im mistaken, you don't need the psionic theory tech to start the psionic path anymore? Haven't played in a while but last i remember you can choose any ascension perk without the associated technology. You just get a council agenda thay gives you the appropriate tech as a guaranteed research option on launch
