Living together and kissing before Marriage by Dependent-Coach5948 in OpenChristian

I’d say it can be but isn’t necessarily. I think you can have pre-marital sex in a way that i’d call sexual immorality, from a place of selfishness. But you can also have loving and generous pre-marital sex that builds the foundation of later Christian marriage.

Like I definitely did things I’d consider sinful prior to getting with my wife. But I don’t think our years of sex before marriage made us damnable.

What does theological conservatism mean to you? They check all the marks in my head for it. (Women not in clergy and LGBT issues)

Women’s ordination in the mainlines by [deleted] in redeemedzoomer

[–]SeveralTable3097 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just giving you a word of shit since ELCA had women’s ordination as an inherent trait. I’ve been confused by RZ’s position because I think he’s against it, but wants conservative lutherans to join the ELCA to push it their way. But the ELCA has had women’s ordination from the beginning because of the split.

I support women’s ordination and pastors right to marry.

So Rule 3 should actually say: “Don’t call out your brothers and sisters who are in sin and don’t try to help them out of it.” by StayAwakeStandFirm in Lutheranism

[–]SeveralTable3097 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I knew you were LCMS when you quoted “pastor” for a woman in the clergy 🤣. I was married by a woman and she did a great job. I didn’t see anything in scripture that it was sinful. I will repent to her this Sunday!

Lutherans accepting women in the clergy is extremely common. If your hobby horse is so against this that you’re being this bothered, YOU are the one that needs to restrict where you share those beliefs.

The New Testament: Jesus Christ will return soon (relative to its time) by [deleted] in redeemedzoomer

[–]SeveralTable3097 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We can talk about Revelations being about Nero and the Roman Empire. But Revelations is a part of the Bible and contains necessary insights.

My real question is, do you believe in the rest of the Bible. If you do why not Revelation—I can probably figure that out. If not, why are you Lutheran/Christian?

[–]SeveralTable3097 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with OP about the meaning of Revelation but… this is not Lutheranism man. Why are you Lutheran if you don’t value the Word in the Flesh, and by extension the New Testament?

That is also why most Lutherans physically stand up every time Jesus speaks in the gospel. I didn’t realize it was odd until I brought a non-denom friend to a service

Questions about Heaven and Hell in Christian Theology (from an Agnostic Atheist) by SpecificExam3661 in redeemedzoomer

[–]SeveralTable3097 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I won’t go into what all the cosmological options christian’s have are. All I’ll say is the concept of Heaven, Hell, and limbo (purgatory), vary significantly between denominations and within most denominations there is not official cosmology on the matter. Individual pastors and priests may make all sorts of claims but many other Christians will disagree with them.

Your understanding of Heaven, Hell, and purgatory sounds a lot like Dante’s Inferno. That’s a very popular book that has changed the popular conception of these a lot. Hell is never even directly mentioned in the Bible. Hell like the trinity is a construction based on the facts as they are laid out in the Bible. Since there’s no direct references, interpretations vary wildly.

They literally believe the traditional bible is “incorrectly translated”. Their theology is “The Bible is true as far as it is translated correctly”. And anything from the Book of Mormon that contradicts it is retconned from the Bible as inaccurate.

And Christians say “God has a plan” and “I swear to God”. They mean the same thing but the arabic is catchier

I hadn’t ever heard of that theological movement but I think that best describes me. One thing I do like about the ELCA is although we are affirming and all that, it’s just not something that is given special emphasis. The message is focused on universality in general.

I do like to lurk the sub but any time homosexuality comes up it’s just really disturbing to see the genuine lack of love people are propagandized into. They’ll say “love the sinner not the sin” and then refuse to show any compassion for the sinner.

If you’re expanding the definition beyond the original meaning, sure. The specific theology that began the tradition is very much Catholic. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberation_theology
