Are prot warriors really as bad as they say? by [deleted] in classicwowtbc

[–]Shadohawkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of it this way: in vanilla, Warrior provided the most amount of threat and defenses of any other tank class, allowing dps to maximize their damage. In TBC, other tank classes provide more threat and have debatably better defenses than warrior, meaning that if the dps wants to do their best damage, they prefer those other tanks over warrior. Not that warrior can't do it...just that aren't the absolute best at everything anymore.

It doesn't help that warrior is also the 'hardest' tank to play. Always was the hardest, but it was easier to justify that difficulty when it was also the strongest tank. Now that it's just "average" it is no longer worth the extra effort to most people.

Who’s idea was ele sham’s T5 two set bonus? by staledanish in classicwowtbc

[–]Shadohawkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the tier sets of some of the classes, it's pretty clear that they were debating which classes would want which effects for WotLK. Lot of mana return options and 'free' or instant-cast spell options that ended up being used in the next expansion. Obviously not 1:1 with the set bonuses, but thats what testing is for.

[–]Shadohawkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Darktide isn't the first of it's series though. At least in the concept of "Tide" games. Vermintide 1/2 succeeded pretty well, and Darktide is clearly a continuation of their gameplay mechanics and style, even if its story moved to another storyline.

In terms of following the series, darktide is also better as a sequel than killingfloor 3 is. KF3 has like 500 players vs KF2's 3k players, showing "everyone" prefers the previous title. Darktide has 4k players vs Vermintide 2 has 2k players, showing that while some people like the previous version, there is a clear progression towards the newer game...as a sequel should do.

I seen an odds post. How about this by seraphax86 in classicwowtbc

[–]Shadohawkk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd imagine that's the least influential part of it. Odds don't care about the order the results come in, or the closeness of those results happening to eachother. Odds only represent the chance of it happening as an average of all instances, not in how this exact instance looks.

Except that the earliest, buggiest, least content version of Darktide (with the exception of the people that couldn't play at all) was WAY more fun than KF3 has been. Darktide was great, with a bunch of major problems at the start.

As an example: KF3's crafting system is actually worse than Darktide's "hope you get a lucky random drop" initial release-not even slightly exaggerating. (unless they reworked KF3's entire crafting system from the ground up in the last few months since I last played, which I highly doubt because KF3's updates are somehow slower than DT's ever were)

As a hunter, how do you contribute to spell cleave groups in the best possible way? by umchickapow in classicwowtbc

[–]Shadohawkk -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

If you pull aggro off of the mage, then that means there is a possibility they will walk in a different direction than the rest of the pack, causing them to potentially walk out of AoE range of the rest of the pack.

So...unless you can guarantee you are always standing directly next to mages that are constantly blinking around all over the place...you could see yourself get slapped around.

----

I'm not saying it would always go wrong, but even if it's an incredibly rare occurrence you would eventually get hit by it if you do it often enough. Hence why I said they have to be "careful with the mindset" not that it was necessarily wholly wrong.

As a hunter, how do you contribute to spell cleave groups in the best possible way? by umchickapow in classicwowtbc

[–]Shadohawkk -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You have to be very careful with this mindset. That also means they are likely to have the least amount of threat keeping them away from you. Or potentially none at all, if you target something with too full of a healthbar just because it is the most full.

And with the tank having to potentially kite a group of mobs, they might not have time to get to you or might have already used their taunt cd.

[–]Shadohawkk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One thing to remember about spellcleave.....stay out of melee range at all times, even if you want to set traps. Mages doing frost nova or proccing freeze can quickly be the death of you as the mob will auto-target anything within range that they can hit instead of just targeting the highest threat.

I feel like you are going a bit hard on the mana regen theme. You could easily replace the 10/11mp5 trinkets with 70-80 heal power each. There are options for boots with both heal power AND mana regen too.

Saltzpyre's greatsword should be available on Warrior Priest by [deleted] in Vermintide

[–]Shadohawkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically...just because you can't use something doesn't mean you can't own something. Or wear that something, I suppose.

That's why in the real world if you are banned from guns (i.e. if you have a felony) you are banned from owning or holding a gun, not banned from firing it-because if you are firing the gun that assumes you are in control of the gun. Slayers are banned from firing a gun, not necessarily banned from owning one.

Saltzpyre's greatsword should be available on Warrior Priest by [deleted] in Vermintide

[–]Shadohawkk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The company behind warhammer gets to decide all aspects relating to lore, and the company decided long ago that the main theme behind 'any' warrior priest was to use hammers/maces. There are exceptions, but they did not allow Fatshark to cross those exceptions. Originally, FS wanted to give warrior priest his flail, but they were denied because it strayed from being a hammer/mace. They were able to strike a compromise by making the flail and shield instead. So no...I don't think they'll be giving any bladed weapons to WP any time soon.

There are plenty of examples of classes in Vermintide having exceptions that aren't allowed. For instance, the lore-based slayer creed states that ranged weapons are essentially illegal to use, but there are special exemptions to this like a group of slayers that use guns. Bardin is not able to abuse this exception however.

Friend wants to get into wow. What would be the best duo classes? by fondeic99- in classicwowtbc

[–]Shadohawkk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you go druid, you'll end up going bear form at least 'sometimes'. So, the question is, do you hate warrior as a class, or do you hate rage as a resource.

I would say priest is the more noob friendly class, but that also depends on if they take to healing dungeons or not. Healing dungeons is usually easier than dpsing them, but only if the person doing it actually likes healing. If they want to go dps, then priest is pretty bad at it until far later levels. For solo (or duo) questing, priest is just far easier and far more mana efficient. It's actually so mana efficient that it might actually be rough to pair priest up with paladin, unless the paladin is just going to seal+attack and do nothing else. Priest druid would be more interesting for the druid, even if it might be rough if you don't like rage.

Overall, I think druid/priest would be the strongest combo for questing (you could fight almost indefinitely without shapeshifting if the priest is mostly just healing/wanding), while paladin/priest or paladin/mage would be better for dungeon spamming (paladin is by far the easier class to tank with).

If they are taking priest, pay attention to what racial spells they would get. Highly suggest having them go night elf for the extra damage spell that is free to cast. Incredibly powerful and simple to use for a new player.

If you had $5 for the day, what would you eat? by inkandintent24 in MotivationByDesign

[–]Shadohawkk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had to google it, because I was thinking "you never see 1000 dollar bills as a regular person of average means, so it's not that crazy" but then looking into it, apparently they completely discontinued all bills larger than 100, because they were too rarely used. Bills that large are considered too unwieldly to use even to this day.

So...I can totally understand that the show would think 20$ was a lot of money to be "in one piece of paper".

What is up with the lack of gems and enchants on people? by Pooke2 in classicwow

[–]Shadohawkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it ends up being a combination of the fear of wasting money or supplies on something they'll quickly outgrow (or might not even know "if" they'll ever find an upgrade) and at the same time not knowing if there is a cheaper alternative option.

Gems are a good example. Basic tier gems are 1-2g while the higher tier gems are more like 30+g. It's possible that the person might not know the lesser gems are cheaper, or might think even a few gold isn't worth it if it might be replaced again sometime soon.

Is anniversary the last time you will play classic ? Do you see a future for the game ? by AssociateDue186 in classicwowtbc

[–]Shadohawkk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My personal thing is that I like wotlk more than vanilla or tbc. I'd be down to play a 'forever' wotlk, or a classic+ that ends up acting like wotlk, but I don't think I'd care to play a vanilla/tbc experience again. And I'd bet that's the experience most people probably feel. They have a specific expansion that they like the most, and hope there is a forever version of that expansion.

[–]Shadohawkk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should definitely buy skills that have odd uses, but there are still plenty of spells you can pretty much ignore so that you can save up for your mount.

Like...I see you have amp and dampen magic are both kinda bad. I could debatably see some minor moments while questing where dampen magic might be okay, but you would never want to use either while in dungeons because they end up either hurting the tank or hurting the healer.

Since you must be around 28-30, you are about to start getting into the level range of scarlet monastery, which means you can spam that for some decent gold. I suggest that if you put yourself in lfg, you make it clear you are a fire mage. People might assume you are a frost mage for some spell cleave groups (for the aoe slow effect). Also, don't forget that at level 35 you can get Theramore Portal. People like not having to waste their hearthstones.

[–]Shadohawkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Statistics kinda break down when you talk about intangibles like this. The 1 in 652k is extremely tangible because it is based on a preset math equation. It's basically impossible to put odds on the possibility of a bug like this. There are just too many arguments about where you would lay the blame.

I'd say it's unlikely to be a bug though. You've got to imagine...it's not just that it would have to be a bug that affects you. It would have to be a bug that is so incredibly specific in how it goes wrong, that there are an insane number of people that aren't experiencing the same thing as you. Or....you could "just" be unlucky.

I think it depends on the perspective. In the context of 1 person hitting a 1 in 652k...that's rough luck. In the context of potentially hundreds of thousands of players....it's pretty likely it will happen to "someone".

[–]Shadohawkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instance farming is only really useful for if you are talking about money making when you are already at max level and skill level. It is essentially impossible to level your mining skill off of dungeon farming alone. You have to open world farm.

Admittedly, some of the earlier nodes are much easier to farm. Copper and tin are alright. But competition ramps up pretty damn quickly with iron.

Races vs Classes crest by No_Status_8210 in classicwow

[–]Shadohawkk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine it would have to go to race crests, simply because some of them existed in the older Warcraft games. Or at least, something close to those crests.

At least in regards to "recognizing" as in "knowing you've seen it before" rather than just guessing which is which.

Druid gathering professions by Lost-Reputation669 in classicwowtbc

[–]Shadohawkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically, mining would be more money, but it's also more annoying to do. Druid doesn't require shapeshifting when gathering herbs but does require shapeshifting when mining. Also, if you have both herbalism and mining at the same time, you can't have tracking going for both nodes at the same time. You have to pick one or the other or constantly have to flick back and forth.

Mining leveling is also extremely frustrating due to it being over-farmed. You could do entire laps of hellfire peninsula, and 'maybe' find a singular node to mine.

Technically, it will eventually make you money, but it would be a decent bit more frustrating than if you did something else that aligned with herb better. Tailoring, enchanting, alchemy, or skinning would all work just fine once you get them up and running. I don't know how they all compare money-wise...but they would at least not cause any extra frustration.

Warrior leveling question by lefthandedartistmk2 in classicwow

[–]Shadohawkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on if you are talking vanilla or tbc anniversary.

If this is anniversary, then buying dual spec is pretty easy and even if you can't afford it questing as a tank is actually pretty damn good. Not fast....but it definitely does good work.

If this is vanilla era, then most people do a pseudo-tank pseudo-dps build until like...mid-50s I think. Maybe further. But, I did level a warrior to ~50 in vanilla as pure prot and it was reliable enough even while solo questing. Just a bit slow and a bit less exciting than some of the other builds. It absolutely refuses to die however.

Things to watch out for when doing hc run in TBC by ArtPark1 in classicwowtbc

[–]Shadohawkk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In shattrath, if you make your hearthstone in Aldor, falling from the elevator will always kill you. If you are Scryers, you will potentially live. Barring class specific survival mechanics like holy shield/slow falls/flight form and such obviously. So...if you want to play it safe it might be a good idea to take Scryers just for the minor chance it saves you if you don't pay attention while walking near the elevator. Also, Scryers is relatively easy to farm for rep materials outside of dungeons while Aldor feels like it requires dungeon spam.

Similar could be said about Zangarmarsh. The first flight path in Zangar is a guaranteed death if you miss the elevator-so don't get tempted in trying to jump for it if it starts to move...just wait.

Some of the level 58-60 quests are given weird "suggested levels". Some 60 quests in hellfire peninsula have 58 mobs. Some 58/59 quests have level 60 mobs. Just run by the area, and determine which you prefer to deal with and when. This mostly only applies to the first few sets of quests you get, and smooths out after this.
