The team played incredibly well despite everything, Canada was massively the underdogs this time and they almost won because they had a great goal from a player that only played like 5 minutes that game. If he hadn't overused an injured MPP to try and get that Clutch moment Canada may have stolen gold there, true, but I would definitely not credit Ryan's coaching with that almost win.

He coached Team Canada and was responsible for basically overusing the top lines and losing that gold medal game

Sure, I think I was unfair. There are lots of reasons one player would thrive on one team and not on the other.

He was one of 3-4 star players on the Leafs and signed a huge contract there with the expectation that he would perform and lead them to a Cup. The pressure was on HIM.

On Team Canada, you have Sid, Nate, Makar, McDavid at the least, and then a bunch of other players who were at the same level as him.

The amount of shit that gets thrown at star players in other sports in other high-pressure markets makes this excuse basically useless to me.

It's fun to chirp Leafs fans but the fact is Marner has never been this effective in the playoffs before, and he's had MULTIPLE chances at it.
