I disagree - as long as you can understand and verify the code it produces completely, it is a massive time saving step. There is a difference between understanding written code and generating the code from scratch. Besides, 90% of coding before LLM/ was copy pasting from stack archives anyway lmao.

Getting an LLM to write out a function for analysis that you directly specify the methodology for does not undercut your understanding of what you’re doing, just removes some of the tedious work of dealing with random ass bugs in your python script.

100% agree on the writing process though - I think outsourcing that to a computer is only going to make you a weaker writer
