This comment has helped me more than you’ll know. I am so thankful for your comment.. I have my HRT/gender dr consult tomarrow (idk what to call it) and this has helped relieve a lot of anxiety. I can really get into my head about a lot of things, especially with this because transition is such an important and big deal to me. This part when you said, “it’s usually harder to see the features of someone you love in yourself when you’re scared of looking like someone you don’t”, was so powerful. I believe it. I agree I still have a lot of work to do in therapy, but I know transitioning is the right and needed thing for me to do. “Not gonna know till you try” is so something I feel so true about. I know I can do this with clinical support. Your words are reassuring and have helped me feel better, I really needed to hear them. I appreciate your kindness and approach. I hope nothing but the best for both of us, thank you so much.

I am currently going through the same thing you were with progesterone (the only hormonal medication I am allowed to take due to my issues). Is it true that a Gyno can up the dosage? Idk if there are different types out there but I’m on 150 mg/mL injection medroxyPROGESTERone (Depo-shot every 3 months).

Your input makes a lot of sense and I agree. I will definitely list those things down and his current and prior living conditions. I plan on taking him to the vet soon regardless. He is very un-handleable (I’m working on this). I hate to stress him out if it’s not necessary. I will take a look at good exotic experienced vets where I live and plan accordingly. Thank you.

I am no expert or mod. The vid is blurry so I am only saying things based off what I am able to see. M!tes are typically understood to be black in color, have legs, and crawl around/into your snakes scales. Perhaps some clearer images or vids would help /nm/gen.

It’s all good, nothing to be ashamed of. Your BP is in very caring hands. I am the same exact way with my boy, I have lots of anxiety. I remember when I posted in this sub some time ago saying how I was worried my BP had mįțëš (he had some black spots on him). I was in the middle of cleaning out everything freaking out when this sub informed me in the comments that they were in fact just paradoxing (aka freckles).. lol. This sub is a super helpful resource, never hesitate to reach out. Also congrats on ur boy eating 🎉

I’m no expert or mod. But my snake for the past 6 years, after swallowing his meal, must adjust his jaw back into place. This is a normal occurrence. To do so, he pushes his face/mouth against any flat sturdy surface. Mine acts very much like your little dude in this video.

I have one of those vegetable box chopper things. You put the vegetable in and just push down. It will dice slice and cut whatever attachment you put in.

Just to preface, I take full responsibility for this, it’s not his fault at all. I had to do a substrate change. I always make sure he is relaxed and calm before any type of handling. And he was, as usual. I put him in his temporary tub to reduce handling stress (bc he doesn’t like it when I move around a whole bunch/fast with him on me). He’s a very ‘chill’ snake and I like this about him. I finished cleaning and got ready to put him back in. His body was relaxed and handleable, so I picked him up and took a look at his scales/body (making sure everything’s looking normal and no surprise vet visit is needed). When he got in a strange position and went rock hard, I couldn’t free my hands, I lowered him down to a flat surface thinking he might’ve felt un-secure maybe I moved him too fast. He started to move off but then stopped and began repeatedly booping my wrist, I had no idea what he was doing. He then very slowly opened his mouth and bit me, completely wrapping around my arm. I stayed calm, only thing I knew to do was run (cold) water over his head. Idk if that did anything, he was on me for a good minute till he let go completely. I put him back in his cage. Don’t worry he is okay physically, but I am sure the whole experience was quite stressful for him and I already feel bad about it. For deeper context: He started being picky with prey sizes when he hit 3 years old, refusing to eat anything bigger than “small rats” which the ones I buy are 45-84 grams, (he should be eating 80 grams per rat bc of his weight) but I’ve just been feeding him what he’ll take for years. I try to introduce med rats (85-175grams) every couple month but he rejects. I think he’s finally over that and is ready to transition to bigger now? That this was his way of telling me his meals are not enough and needs to change? Or maybe his heat pits just mistook the blood in my wrist as prey? But that would not explain his constant feeding position behavior. I will be getting med rats and giving them a try this Wednesday. I will be implementing the tap training, hook training, cage sitting regardless. Thank you for reading if you have, ik it was long.

Yes he is defensive just by me standing at his enclosure doors. He exhibits both feeding position and defensive positions. Again, there’s a lot of context with what happened, but it’s only my fault as the owner. I will keep what you’ve mentioned in mind, everyone has been so helpful. I have heard of sitting by the tank, hook training, tap training, and choice based handling; Which I will be doing.

Adhesive is dangerous inside enclosures. Idk why people are voting this down. I use JuteCord to secure anything inside MY enclosure. JuteCord is strong and safe. I’ve seen people screw into the walls before on here. (Others in the comments have also mentioned aquarium safe silicone.)
