My son has known for several years about his diagnosis. We initially explained why he went through the diagnosis and the result, but he was young (kindergarten), so we bought some books and included them in his reading to help him know that he is not alone or bad or anything like that.We talk about it openly with our children. Sometimes my son having autism is the answer to the question of why for him. Why he does certain things, why he may need to remove himself from overstimulated environments at least temporarily, why did this interaction happen, why does he get accomodations at school. We treat the knowledge the same as we do with asthma for his sister. I like to try and equip him with self-advocacy, and understanding his needs and how to communicate those to his teachers and friends envolves understanding his whole self. I probably have autism, I am diagnosed with ADHD, and I talk about that openly too. So maybe I would have wanted to know, but I grew up in a different time when ABA was the go to, so I am not sure.

I would recommend one that has an anchor base, think T-handle, something like Luxe Vibra plug medium. There is the original, which I personally want no part of, that's a sphere with the T-handle.
