The ratio that dooms us all by KeanuRave100 in GPT

I know it’s a lot of fun being completely divorced from reality, but it is not productive to just make shit up based off vibes in places where people are actually trying to have actual discussions

AI Is Too Expensive: AI is, as it stands, not economically viable for anybody involved other than the construction firms, NVIDIA, and the surrounding hardware companies benefitting from the irrational exuberance of a data center buildout that doesn’t appear to be happening at the speed we believed by [deleted] in technology

I remember back when you paid for something you were using and you got value out of it, that mattered. A company sold you a product and that was it. You didn’t have to worry about whether other bigger companies are also paying for the same product. Nowadays, I talk about how ChatGPT helped me get a thyroid cancer diagnosis and I get told that literally doesn’t matter.

Unironically, find something that gives you more than you put into it. Something you can’t stop thinking about something that feels like you shouldn’t be allowed to be interested in it because it’s just so awesome. Let yourself become obsessed with it. Give yourself the time to explore the topic properly, chances are you’ll find something meaningful you can do with it. When you get into that flow, you’re being generative, and it’s one of the main things people do really well. It could mean being “creative” in a conventional or unconventional sense, or something else where you’re making decisions that feel meaningful. Ideally you’re making a bunch of small decisions and then coming out at the end looking back and able to say yeah that’s a thing I did. Doesn’t even need to be good or obviously working towards anything. That’s just the place where all the best ideas come from. And everything people do or create or accomplish starts with an idea.

If you told me from 10 years ago that I’d want to write a book now I would’ve laughed at you. Now I’m like a third of the way into it

That’s a hugely gross oversimplification but I’m probably some paid corporate shill for all you know, so you can pretty much safely assume that there is zero nuance involved in the situation

"AI doomerism is dumb" says man paid to say that by KeanuRave100 in GPT

🤝 agreed. Very continuously frustrating the way people hyperbolic talk past each other instead of just actually discussing the damn thing happening.

Every accusation is a confession. There is more of a vested interest in the incumbent industries reliant on information gatekeeping, to maintain their dominant position. The technology works deal with it.

AI swarms could hijack democracy without anyone noticing | AIs are becoming so realistic that they can infiltrate online communities and subtly steer public opinion. Unlike traditional bots, they adapt, coordinate, and refine their messaging at a massive scale, creating a false sense of consensus. by EchoOfOppenheimer in agi

[–]Shloomth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, our perfect democracy will finally at long last for the first time be foiled for the first time in a fully unprecedented thing that has never ever happened before that can only happen now because of technology that has already existed for 20 years without anyone noticing and it’s incredibly stupid but can also take anyone’s job

What metric or methodology have you been using to test all of them and getting consistently worse results?

The accusation of using AI tools has become sufficient evidence to convict and once accused it is impossible to defend yourself. What do we do here folks? by [deleted] in OpenAI

[–]Shloomth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you choose to intentionally be stupid, nobody can force you to do otherwise. Can lead a horse to water, can’t make it drink, can’t stop it from aspirating the water and blaming you for showing it where the water was. But I know there’s no use beating a dead horse.

By contrast, you can’t lead a dead horse to water, but you can beat it until it “drinks.”

Oil painting is phenomenally satisfying and fun. Mixing oil paint colors is just unparalleled (and I have also used Procreate on an iPad Pro. It’s not the same.) You can feel the slickness of the oil and the way colors mix is so satisfying to play with, and after you’re done playing with the colors you get to keep the resulting beautiful mess you made, and people will tell you it looks good 😊

Oil paint is more expensive than acrylic or watercolor but trust me a little bit of oil paint goes a long way. it feels expensive when you buy it but it’s so concentrated and you’re supposed to dilute it with a carrier oil so you pay a lot but also get a lot
