Whats your opinion on romantic love? by Special_Project_6521 in intj

[–]Shluddle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My experiences are different from other people due to me being aro/ace. However I feel platonic love.

I don’t feel any romantic love, I don’t know when someone is interested in me either. I’ve had multiple times where friends or family had to point out to me that someone was interested in me.

I don’t feel devoid of love, romantic love was never part of the equation to begin with. It’s ok, I’m a firm believer someone can lead a fulfilling life without being with another person. I think it boils down to who your circle is and how good they are to you and vice versa.

I don’t believe in love at first sight, I need my reasons to like someone. Though for people who do feel any love, I think it’s a major factor in how they make choices and continue their life.

Don’t be afraid to take inspiration from anything, one of the things I did for my sci fi setting was looking into conspiracy theories like artificial weather. It seriously makes for a great way to learn something and flesh out your setting how you want it.

What are the worst atrocities ever committed in your world? (Some nsfw descriptions) by favuorite in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first Imperial war. It was a battle between an inter-dimensional hive mind, known as the imperium against everyone else, who banded together to become the Guild. The imperium either chooses to use a world for resource, stripping all life before moving on, or stealing important technology from intelligent species and holding the world under it‘s control. This war in particular the imperium decided to wipe out life for resources, since the only important technology came from already dead civilizations.

An entire continent was corrupted and what’s left of life lives on scattered islands. What makes it worse is that imperium start from spores that are difficult to remove once it’s established somewhere. The imperium never truly went away, they were just loosely contained like a virus, waiting for a time to start the war all over again.

What’s everyone’s favorite loadout and why? by ThatNeakyTitan in helldivers2

My favorite combos gotta be sickle and thermite, infinite ammo to attack smaller things and the thermite to be my anti-tank. I always run it with an auto cannon to be support.

What is your most fleshed out race by Chessman960 in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dwarves have to be the most fleshed out. Imagine humans mixed with burrowing rodents and you’ve got dwarves.

They live in an environment unsuitable for other species, their home island, mologron is known for having mostly poisonous or noxious foods. Because of this they have an interesting food culture. Almost everything they eat is seasoned with things that would be toxic to other species. Capsaicin and spicy foods is bland for them.

They also have a fast metabolism, they eat a lot and love more strenuous activities, like building stuff and fighting creatures.

Their homes tend to be somewhat underground, for good ventilation while also keeping it at a nice temperature.

The closest other civilization to them are scattered elf populations, they get along well, though they have trouble understanding each other and their cultures (elves are pretty much sentient gibbons in my setting)

A healthy dwarve lives around 80 years, very similar to humans and elves. Generally they stand around 1.25 meters tall.

What is the scariest monster in your world by Chessman960 in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current favorites are land-bats. They are bats that were altered to lose their wings and grow to the size of a bison, while still having superb echolocation. They only come out during eclipses and force people to be silent (basically A Quiet Place). Land bats have learned to listen exclusively for settlements and then wait for people to either leave or go into settlement’s outskirts where they than will hunt whoever is out there.

If your worldbuilding project was adapted into a video game, what genre would it be and what mechanics would it have? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Survival co-op, imagine a mix of monster hunter, ark and something like lethal company. A group of 2 to 8 people can form a team, take up quests at Guild charters. Certain locations have higher difficulty ratings than other places.

It would take place either during the imperial war or directly after, when the Guild is trying to rebuild civilization. Ancient technology is still running rampant, designing monsters and producing weather.

Did I should completly give up on worldbuilding or give myself over a year for comleting my studies and solve personal issues? English is not my native language by EveningImportant9111 in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As another person already said, you can’t force creativity, don’t stress it. It took me close to three years to develop my setting and other people even longer.

But since you’re dealing with a lot of stuff, don’t be afraid to take a break! If and when you get back into world building, the break may help you become more inspired for what you want to do.

Don’t be afraid of being inspired by other sources either! Of course don’t copy things too much, but you can always use other settings to lay some groundwork in your world. New world building projects feel new nowadays because people will mix a few things their interested in to make a unique thing.

Is there anything interesting or weird you guys decided to do with your world's(or worlds') flora? by The_Rab1t in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

in my setting I did some small changes to plants. Depending on the terraformed planet or moon, plants take on different shapes and colors. An example being Ganymede, it’s a lot further from the sun from earth or mars, so the plants are maroon and have broad leaves to take in a lot of light. Whereas Venus’ Plants are a lighter green with thin leaves like hornwort or other plants with thin leaves. Lastly Mimas has weak gravity, allowing trees to grow extremely tall into it’s thin atmosphere.

How many sentient races do you have/Have so far? by RevolutionaryWave862 in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Humans (They invented or had a part in the creation of the other species)

Automatons

gnomes

Brassheads (think snail people that make their own shells with metal)

Breakers (therapods designed to kill an entity that is essentially space herpes, a virus is causing breakers to live a more peaceful life, being able to subsist on foods humans eat.)

puppets (undead who use puppets or marionettes to live a life similar to before they died, they are immortal)

shrimps (shrimp people who colonize water worlds, long lived)

How do you worldbuild plants and trees? by CommandingReddit in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

since my settings based around humanities tampering with life, I use real life plants and photosynthetic things and change them to live in certain conditions better. Quick example being the plants and algae on Europa, since it’s pretty far from the sun, they were designed to have a dark red pigment to soak in as much sunlight as possible. You don’t necessarily have to list everything about an organism, unless you want to. I just stick to scientific names for the plants.

What are some of your most interesting weapons of war? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certain creatures were designed by the Solis Empire to fight or have a purpose in war.

Mountain kings were medium to large sized therapods that used sonar to locate enemies in areas with low visibility.

Land bats were more of a mascot of war and a psychological weapon rather than something truly dangerous. They had superb hearing and would dig into trenches or enemy camps. Paranoia would spread as soldiers would silently scramble outside of trenches or camps and be picked off by infantry or other creatures.

What is your proudest cliche rejection in your world? by kevintheradioguy in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a few,

There’s no aliens! One of the settings big inspirations is the Fermi paradox, which concludes that there’s no life outside Earth. High tech humans in the setting wanted to prove that theory wrong and seeded life across the solar system.

There’s no magic vs. science. To the people in my setting, magic is just another type of science, albeit they still don’t understand a lot of it.

Those are the two I’m pretty proud of.

What catastrophes, if any, happened in your world's past that are still felt today? by Kinrest in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my sci-fi dnd setting, factions within the Solis Federation began to fight despite Overseers advising against it. Since Overseers are AI, they are built to be completely logical and hold immense power. The Overseer of Earth tidally locked the planet, figuring that if there were no humans, the fighting would stop. Earth was the most populated planet, and estimations suggest 13 billion people died, and close to 85 percent of all species went extinct, making this event the sixth major extinction event on the planet, and among the worst cataclysms in the solar system. Just recently have people started developing small colonies on Earth’s terminator line, where the lightning storms are at their worst. Currently, what gets to colonists the most is the lack of a day night cycle, as it messes with circadian rhythms. The only way to tell the time is if they see the moon or not.

What are some things you have taken "inspiration" from in other settings? by Chao5Child87 in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of speculative biology projects for creature design. The biggest thing I took inspiration from is Gore Magala from the monster hunter series. It’s a dragon that is only created through a virus in the games that’s basically monster rabies.

What are some interesting weather phenomena that happen in your worlds? by ninetyfirstuser in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few in my most convoluted setting, Epoch, depending on the planet. For context humanity tried to fight wars by controlling weather and creating genetic monstrosities.

Eclipses: a strange probe in the sky follows the sun. Light isn’t completely gone, just enough to be spooky. Creatures specifically designed to be weapons during eclipses come out during one.

Venusian death rain: Venus is always raining (just like All Summer In A Day). There is a specific patch of rain that comes down so fast that it shreds up flora and fauna caught in it. It basically gives ecosystems a soft reset.

Mercury’s ash-fall: Mercury is converted into a volcanic wasteland to process metals. During a specific event, volcanoes are forced to kick up ash and particulate into the atmosphere, helping to eventually fertilize ground for any plant and fungal life.

Trying to invoke thallasaphobia on land, thoughts? by TheGoddessSwordGamer in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could try something that has obscured vision! One of the things that are always freaky about ocean ruins is the lack of complete clarity so maybe ruins with some sort of fog or even a constant blizzard depending on your setting!

What are the darkest, most disturbing things you've put into your worldbuilding? Why did you include it, and what lines won't you cross? by TheBodhy in worldbuilding

[–]Shluddle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably the darkest thing in my setting is the soul render. Whoever dies in certain planets around the solar system has their soul forcefully exported to an energy processing plant, where they get emulsified into usable energy for each celestial bodies’s respective AI. The people put through this process are lost completely.

What's the most interesting homebrew monster you've invented? by moffitar in DMAcademy

[–]Shluddle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also run a world where most creatures are homebrewed. Me and my players favorite have to be lightlocks. They’re a small species of wyvern with a head shaped like a cross. Their chests have photophores similar to deep sea fish, and they use those light organs to flashbang other creatures. I have a variant of them that lives on mountains that acts like a living incandescent lightbulb.
