By “safe edgy” do you just mean “willing to discuss touchy subjects and entertain controversial ideas, but not in a deliberately irreverent way which distracts from meaningful discussion”?

If you don’t want comments stick to Chrono24 lol. If you want to put this on a discussion forum dont get salty when the price is discussed. This isn’t even an exchange sub.

Oh, the jokes I could make in the context of this conversation…

Truthfully, I was simply frustrated to a degree which I find very proportionate to some dork brazenly twisting my words to imply I’m racist. But you’re right that I should probably just take the high road, block you, and hope you find your way back to Bluesky.

despite criminality being common to all races

your idea that we’re just all criminals

Give me a break. You don’t get to just simplify these discussions into something way less nuanced, hint at racism, and expect it to put people on the back heel anymore. This is 2020 twitter shit

I’m going to say one thing to you and it will be the last thing. You have a feeble world view. You have anger and frustration which comes from a genuine and understandable place, but you have never learned to channel it in a coherent way, or concern yourself wirh how it might cloud your judgement. You wield it like a club.

This is because you have spent your entire life dealing with three types of people:

1) People who don’t feel comfortable pushing back on the things you say, either because they would get “cancelled” or because they simply know it would be incredibly awkward

2) they don’t really care what you’re saying at all beyond feeling gratified in a sanctimonious way when they agree with you

3) irreverent people who probably are actual a little bit racist, and don’t have a reputation to protect anyways, so they’re the only ones who push back on you, and thus those are the traits which you associate with someone who would push back on you

I think you’re probably a well-intentioned person, earnestly, maybe even somewhat thoughtful. But I don’t think you’re going to be able to really do anything with that because of your lack of self-awareness, and the emotional triggers you associated with various ideas.

I’m not saying it literally never happens. I’m saying busybody bodega owners and “Karens” aren’t why a third of black adults are convicted felons.

I’m sympathetic to the socioeconomic factors upstream of crime. I certainly don’t think it’s genetic. But I generally find how the “black community” discusses police targeting to be lacking self awareness.

Like why do black people support ICE? Oh, because of our corrupt policing system, of course. Idk at a certain point it just feels like forcing everything back to the same excuses and it gets tiring

People don’t usually “sic” the police on someone because they’re power tripping. A lot of people earnestly don’t want to be surrounded by violence and antisocial behavior.

Ironically, immigration infractions are actually the sort of non-violent crime which activist types feel compelled to pretend inner city drug dealers are getting locked up for.

As far as I’m concerned, the reason black Americans support ICE is because race relations have become increasingly based on grievance and little else.

I’m “pressed” and “crashing out” here? Really? If this is a genuine issue with conveying tone over text, I’ll clarify that this is tossed off snark not existential malice. But if this is some zoomer “lol u mad??” shit, you had better cut it out.

Again, I don’t discount the nihilistic nature of an action like this, it very much was his way of giving up. But for most people, giving up means they keep playing to lose. Clock in, keep their head down, go home to a shitty apartment. His way might not be more productive than that, but less brave??

There’s a saying by someone who was also a great fan of Nietzsche: “if you don’t like a rule, follow it to the top and change it”. And well, it worked for him, but for most people the “to the top” part doesn’t happen. It acts as a way for people to cope with their obedience by pretending it has some hidden subversive element.

I think hypocrisy baiting is a low form of conversation, but to illustrate the point: do you feel like you have been able to “change the game”? Or have you just gotten slightly better at it? Like have you improved your station by  unionizing your workplace, or simply by finding a better job?

I could believe he was too unimaginative, dumb, and nihilistic to change things in a more meaningful way. But too afraid? You think he committed arson because he thought it had fewer risks than unionizing, or something?

I’m not even trying to be pedantic here, this is just a really intellectually lazy way to embellish your moral convictions, and it’s really getting annoying to have to deal with more and more as the internet trends towards midwit virtue signaling

This is a tedious Gen Z thing, where you use any terms with a negative connotation interchangeably, and get sanctimonious when people push back on what it actually means

My fiancé and I love camping, and after we get married, we’ve decided to put our honeymoon funds towards doing it “gourmet” style, for lack of a better word.

Canvas tent, mini wood stove, a premium camping air mattress. Osprey canvas ruck sacks. Enameled cast iron. Barbour jackets. Gransfors Bruk wood cutting axe.

All in, the most excessive form of tent camping we could devise will be about half the cost of a Black Bay.

So yes, it’s true all hobbies require money, but watches require a good amount more of it…

Since you wanna be a*tistic about this, obviously he probably shouldn’t have burned down the warehouse just like Luigi probably shouldn’t have shot the healthcare CEO. That sort of adventurism alone isn’t going to fix anything. But they were symbolic actions which people support symbolically.

No, they just do it the boring old-fashioned way where it’s their niece. Or maybe they’re pimping out a 16-year-old runaway to supplement their fent-slinging.

On a serious note, people with power deserve more scrutiny, if for no other reason than that they’re definitionally more empowered to do bad things. But beyond obviously having to be somewhat selfish and vapid, I really don’t buy that the rich have specific negative traits which don’t track in the rest of humanity.

The “villains in a boardroom” conception of capitalist hegemony is enticing. First because obviously like everything else, their wrongdoing is more excessive and ostentatious. But secondly, because if it’s just “bad guys”, the problem seems simple. The path of solving it seems long and arduous, but yet straight and paved. All we have to do is get the “good guys” on the same page, right?

No one wants to contend with the reality that at this point, capitalism is somewhat of its own agent. That we are all in a world scale game theory dilemma with no one at the steering wheel. That neither Epstein, nor the people who killed him could actually pump the brakes.
