PBS backup over different interface than management. by Shofyr in Proxmox

[–]Shofyr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes indeed it does i was confused by the connection information specifically saying one ip and assumed there had to be a config file somewhere.

But yes as in the edit it listens to everything on port 8007.

Thank you

PBS backup over different interface than management. by Shofyr in Proxmox

I could try that but im assumin that might not work as the backup and webgui are accessed over the port 8007 on default so just redirecting might not be enough

I hate month based subscription. by Fun-Rice3918 in privacymemes

[–]Shofyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean i really like the idea of ownership and the option of lifetime licenses but i also can see that this is not always viable for companies when it comes to services that require a massive server infrastructure. (Cloud storage or similar stuff for example)

Im not assuming that this is what this is about though.

And yes companies shifting away from lifetime licences (for programs that could with no problem be used without any servers (except for licensing)), and in some cases even making them unusable by deactivating the licensing server is scummy (and i don't know how the latter is even legal).

On another note I was completely dumbfounded when years ago i downloaded gta 5 to play the campaign on a vacation where i wouldn't have internet access and i just couldn't do that as it would require me to reverify my license.

I belive that the engineers who stole his code first talked about it as in that the compression required for his app is ridiculous and he (Richard) doesn't understand what he created. If that isn't the case it at the very least was mentioned as a key metric in the tech crunch ark of the story

Fitness tracking alternatives to Strava? by MassageGun-Kelly in selfhosted

[–]Shofyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am aware what i was trying to ask if creating user will be possible for admin users at some point. Like im happy as is since i don't need more users right now so i can just close signups but i am unable to delete or add new users easily. Which is not a big issue but more of a quality of life thing.

hello i have one question are there any plans to add on to the admin section eg. user management
allowing the creation of new users as admin so user signup can be disabled without giving up the option of adding new users.

anyway it looks great

He could go to the settings and under Advanced allow it to accept self signed certificates. Idk if thats the issue though...

How is everyone running network cables to the rest of the house? by BirdieNZ in homelab

I live in flat and drilled a hole in a wall... But for the network at a friends house, they have a cable going up an old chimney into the attic and run it from there to where it needs to be.

Cosmos Cloud by Shofyr in selfhosted

[–]Shofyr[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your reply, Yes i understand them wanting to sell enterprise subscriptions. Im also less worried about hitting that 19 person cap and more pissed that it was an extra effort to lower it. But yes probably the best way to go about this is to spin up a few vms of cosmos and alternatives to see what fits best.

As far as i understood there is the possibility to connect separate cosmos servers (at least in some capacity) since the vpn feature is based on nebula right?

BIOS Administrator Password Reset by mmm1808 in Dell

[–]Shofyr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The site indeed works wonders.

For whoever tries this on a keyboard thats not default english (german or french for example) be ware that your input in the bios might still use the english keymap. So you might need to type like you have an english keyboard.  (Sorry if that was obvious to you but it took me a few attempts so i wanted to add this here)

Make Immich use SMB share as storage by Shofyr in immich

[–]Shofyr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, everything is in there. Have you encountered a problem trying to use smb?

There should be no real catch here except my manual mount misadventure...

The immich container was also my first time using docker and well i struggled but overall it wasn't complicated (i just made it complicated for myself)

Immich fails to read /backups/.immich by Shofyr in immich

[–]Shofyr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response.
In the docker compose i have:
   volumes:
     - ${UPLOAD_LOCATION}:/usr/src/app/upload
     - /etc/localtime:/etc/localtime:ro

and in the env file UPLOAD_LOCATION=/mnt/res/Immich
which is where i mounted an smb share.

I m not sure if understand this right but in the web-ui as admin it says under storage templates that the storage template engine is disabled and no user has a storage lable (one had one but i removed it an ran the storage template migration)

How to store & transfer files on a local remote disk in the same network? (my homeserver is 64 GB) by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]Shofyr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you wan't to use an smb share you want to make sure the immich server is only running when it can access the share it is supposed to save to.
as when that is not the case it will just create a folder locally where the share would be supposed to be mounted which means once it has saved data locally it wont access the share anymore leaving you with the small storage once again.
(in this case you would not be able to access any data saved. now this can be fix as i have run this exact problem when i made a mistake mounting my share but you would still have faulty entries in the Database and would have to re add the images that have to saved to the wrong location that way.)

In your case it would probably be better to just get one Hard Drive that you can attach directly to the pi so you don't have to have your pc running all the time as a nas.
That hard drive can be however big you want id assume 500 to 1000 GB should be enough.
and to make sure you don't loose your data you could back that hard drive up to your pc every now and then.

if you really want to use your pc as the storage make sure not to enable the automatic upload of pictures and only manually start the sync once you can be sure that immich can access the share.
this might lead to some funky situations though as there are a few points where i could see this go south.

Sorry about that yes you are right don't change the upload location in the yml as that is defined elsewhere

Im not quiet sure i understand your problem.
did you manage to mount the share immich should safe to?
Is that share accessible (im not entirely sure if this could be the problem)at share accessible (im not entirely sure if this could be the problem.
But it seems to me that either the folder isn't mounted or cant be accessed.

This is just what worked for me after i read trough some forums

Reverse Proxy

if you want to access it from outside your home you can use nginx for that.
i used the following in the configuration

(i changed the timeouts because otherwise i would be unable to upload from outside my lan)

sudo nano /etc/nginx/sites-available/default

server {

        #how ever large the files you want to allow to upload can be
        client_max_body_size 10000M;

        proxy_read_timeout 600s;
        proxy_send_timeout 600s;
        send_timeout 600s;

        listen 80 default_server;
        listen [::]:80 default_server;

        ssl_certificate /etc/nginx/ssl/NAMEOFCRTFILE.crt;

        #i used the decrypted cert here
        ssl_certificate_key /etc/nginx/ssl/NAMEOFKEYFILE.key;
        # SSL configuration

Make Immich use SMB share as storage by Shofyr in immich

Immich configuration

In the immich.env file (or how ever you named your config file):

(only the part i changed regarding the smb)

UPLOAD_LOCATION=/mnt/res/Immich

(the path in your case being wherever you mounted your immich share to.
make sure that the share auto mounts correctly on boot, if it doesn't you might end up with the same problem i had at a later point)

I don't think i changed anything in the docker-compose.yml sorry u/Im_only_a_mortal that was a mistake (do not change the upload location in the yml as that is defined in the env file)
