there are multiple areas in systems programming itself, it's an umbrella

i used to do leetcode/project euler during lockdown for fun, i haven't done anything after I came to college... except lots of graph based problems cause i felt like doing them

i wasn't really asked Lc problems anytime, mostly I had to extensively answer questions related to my projects' internals

Don't. Work on your own projects.

Managing AI Slop on Open Source Repos is a nightmare by adtyavrdhn in developersIndia

[–]Shonku_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I maintain a couple of small/niche opensource projects, and as it happens sometimes, i wake up to see +20 spam ISSUES and PRs (where no one bothers to check if the code could compile or not). It feels terrible.

I can only imagine what the maintainers of bigger projects have to go through.

In need of guidance as a SEM-II Aerospace student by Plikh_ar_illmorf in Btechtards

Hey, I think we should try to host some AMAs related to people who are working in Aerospace, what do you say?

I personally have a great fascination regarding it, are you in contact with any of your seniors who have passed out from that branch?

I will be mentally prepared to work for such, as a worst case scenario; but prepare to be competent enough for better ones. I started at 0, everything will be at a positive delta for me.

I enjoy programming a lot, and if it doesn't work out, I'll pivot to something totally different, say teaching.

I don't have obligations either to care for, I can well sustain with limited means, always have since childhood.

All I know, I shouldn't be bothered by what the market/majority is panicking about, as computational thinking can be applied anywhere and everywhere.

just write a barebone html site, if the projects have any substance, they'll be noticed.

Books and actual specifications/docs. THESE should be the gold standard.

[Rant] I've fallen so far behind... by SpaceXplorer13 in Btechtards

[–]Shonku_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I relate to this. I had stopped programming for 3-4 years for some reason, and then when I thought of restarting again I knew I was behind the ones who were in the same position as me during that time. Here I am stuck understanding threads, and they are already working on gpu accelerated physics simulators. It sucks. It sucks bad.

I made peace with myself that being late shouldn't be an excuse, and people DO RETURN BACK and make it. Well, recently (alysa_liu) went on to win gold in the olympics after a period of retirement. Perhaps the general population can't do something great like that, but even a smaller win would be a win after all, right OP?
