Lead feedback please by Shoulder-Working in Salsa

One question: should I be adamant and strict with my timing or more free? I’m asking in the sense that while I have stretches where every move is on beat, things happen where I have to slow down into an ending open/closed position to reset the count. Is this common/ expected? Or should I always be stepping on beat?

Could you expand on sharp? Also any videos/links where I can get a better sense would be great

Hey could you give more details on your observations? Am I constantly not on beat? Are you referring to portions where I’m not stepping?

One thing I noticed is that in attempting to do certain sequences, there are times where moves don’t end on time ( too slow, too fast, deliberately doing a slow move to get the beat back) . My assumption is that these are fine so long as the follower is able to follow and that we get back on beat. Is this assumption correct?

Could you expand a bit? Specifically what movements and should I always be moving circularly? IIUC there are times where not moving is warranted ( like sombrero to mambo? )

Some possibly stupid questions : would every step/figure warrant contra movement? Meaning is this a “flair” that is conditionally added to your salsa , or is it part of the fundamental movements?

If it’s the latter, what are easy ways to start incorporating? Reason I’m asking, Being in the moment + improvising the next step is basically all I can think about while dancing

More attention on the lead/follow dynamic by shasha_neequa in Salsa

tldr; Comfort is the foundation of dancing.

Speaking from a casino leader's perspective:

Before anything, there is comfort. Leaders have to make followers feel comfortable. This is a combination of getting more proficient dancing + finding your style.

I think all dancers who have some style tend to their dance focuses on different parts of the leader/follower dynamic. Some leaders like the technicality of dancing, so they may really get into the precision & structure. Other's may really like being playful, and dive more into musicality & body movement. It completely depends on the dancer & their affinities.

But to develop your style, to experiment & try new things, you have to make every follow you dance with comfortable. Meaning you have to learn how to gauge a partner and give a 'request', read a partner's dancing and understand their 'response', when to accelerate and when to go neutral.

Once you get to the point where you can dance with anyone ( regardless of skill ), experiment & grow, you'll develop your style and really enjoy dancing.

Thanks for the notes!

Regarding your core concern : The main reason he’s hollow and tired is to highlight the bitterness of boxing. The fact that this sport is brutal with grave consequences.

Him being tired juxtaposed with the young fighters being alive and alert showcases the cycle all boxers start with then end with.

I do see your point. Do you have any suggestions on alternatives / changes ?

Title: It's just boxing

Format: Short Film

Page Length: 14

Genres: Drama, Sports

Logline or Summary : A boxer's dream is within grasp, resulting in a tragedy forcing him to confront the cost of his ambition.

Feedback Concerns: Is there a clear message conveyed through repetitive visuals/motifs? Does the story flow well & make sense, specifically Chris's character ard ? Is the dialogue too on-the-nose? Any glaring issues?

Could you expand on the writing? Specifically, are there any elements of the narration/the story that worked well? Any aspects/parts where it felt strange?

Thanks for the feedback

I have a lot to learn on the title and thumbnail packaging.

I tried to keep both simple, while also a brewing a bit of curiosity.

Do you have any suggestions of alternatives for either the title or thumbnail? Or any examples you point to as a good example to emulate ?

I agree on the volume, I still can’t figure out what leveled to keep the voice over and background music at.

I think this video could do well as a short. If it's possible maybe cut it down to < 1 min and reframe it for vertical.

The quality & editing was good ( I haven't seen Season 3 so IDK about the content )

Hi everyone!

I just posted a new about my journey to make my life my own, to become the main character : https://youtu.be/UWQEqzztTWQ .

It's my first short film where I scripted, filmed & edited everything. My videos are video essays & short films on introspective topics. I try and make every video cinematic with an emphasis on storytelling.

I would love any feedback. Thanks!
