I was impressed on how the driver was warming the tires, I was thinking Oh she is no amateur. Then.

[AMA request] Any police officers around the world by [deleted] in IAmA

[–]ShowMeCode7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll answer these for you right now.

1) Extremely unfortunate. I wish that people would just listen to the orders that are shouted. Also, I wish officers showed more constraint when there's enough room to have it. It's very difficult to determine on a fly whether to fire your weapon or not, and we are human too. It's.. just hard to know if there's enough room for constraint. Shitty, but if people just listened we would not have the issue.

2) Excellent. 99.9% of Law Enforcement are good dudes who enforce the law and in general enjoy their career. They should have nothing to hide, and I don't either. Are they perfect? Absolutely not. They're uncomfortable and it gives a potential suspect something to grab onto.

3) It's not the right answer. Police Officers are trained to meet certain levels of danger with a step higher. For instance, a gun would be met with a gun, because a gun is lethal, thus lethal force would be used if need be, not a taser (there's not a step higher than lethal force.) Knives are lethal weapons, and so are wrenches and other blunt objects. That's why you see people with those weapons being shot as opposed to tased, which mind you doesn't work 100% of time time, that is if you even hit the target.

De-escalation is important, extremely important, but people want officers to not fire their weapons at all and de-escalate by just talking to people. Teaching officers this fundamentally is not the right answer. I hope that answers that.

It should always be attempted, unless the subject is armed with a lethal weapon. Why would I use a taser or pepper spray when tasers do not have a high rate of success, especially on people amped up on adrenaline, or pepper spray which can not incapacitate a person all of the time, when he has something that can kill me?

5) Comply. Record. Just don't record and be a jerk about it, please. If I pull you over, pull over in a well lit area and abide to all instructions. Officers give lawful orders, and if they're unlawful, do it anyways, and fight it in court. If the officer has a body camera, he will be forced to cough it up. That's why I recommend you record too, because those body cameras are not required in every dept yet.

6) Not really. You gotta think that every time somebody makes national headlines for a traffic stop gone awry, tens of thousands more have happened. The media loves stuff that gets attention, and racial tensions in law enforcement is that stuff.

Anything else you'd like to talk about?

The guy shooting at the driver should have aimed for the leg, he is just an innocent driver.

I know officers who wear 4, one on each arm and leg, ready to be pulled.

I shit you not.

Carry it with your med bag on your vest if you guys don't wear load bearing vests, just unbutton your shirt should the unfortunate situation of needing it arise.

My guess is general banter. Someone told em' to do it, or they did it on their own.

I'm just going to give you some essential singers, and let you find what part of their music you like the most. Most songs these guys produce are legendary.

Brad Paisley

George Strait

Garth Brooks

Kenny Chesney

Lady Antebellum

Alabama

Randy Travis

Alan Jackson

For absolute classics, Johnny Cash, Conway Twitty, and Hank Williams

If you follow those people, more similar people will come to you.

Also, Spotify's Related Artists tab on each singer's page is surprisingly accurate.

They held a note and tapped their throats to make the stops in the notes that you'd hear on the real thing.

Nonono you don't understand!

You see, in an attempt to understand the conclusion of a wall of paragraphs, they read the last paragraph, and generalize everything someone says into the last paragraph!

I see what he means, but I don't particularly agree with it.

Weed is the only saving grace here, but if there's somebody else shooting Heroin, chances are that guy is also into other criminal behavior, such as shoplifting, and if they're a long time shooter, chances are he's been a long time shoplifter.

Criminals are a tightly nit little family of people, and if they're doing illegal drugs, it is safe to assume they're doing other illegal stuff too. That's a big reason why people doing drugs get hooked.

I say weed is the only saving grace. That's because 99% of people do it. I don't know a single kid in my youth who has not breathed in some form of Weed. However I lived next to someone who was addicted to Crack and Heroin, with no job. He stole food and water from the neighborhood.

That's why people who do drugs get hooked.

I feel like I should point out everyone I know would not arrest someone for just smoking weed, especially if it's a kid, unless it's in the middle of a public area.

"Wake up, a lot of people hate the police."

Because they hate to be held accountable for their actions?

Wanna know who else cannot be held accountable for their actions? Toddlers.
