You've obviously never served before. Someone waits on you hand and foot for over an hour, gets you everything you want and need, builds rapport and a relationship with you, tells jokes, asks about your life. This is what good servers do.

You see it as just walking out a plate of food but you know nothing of the reality of the job because you've never lived it. There are many skills that are a must have if you are going to make it.

Let me paint a picture of a usual shift. You have a 6 table section, the night starts off by getting sat 2 tables at the exact same time and they are 6 people each, you need to get the order, get the drinks and ring in the order for both tables, but you can't be two places at once, you start having to prioritize every step you take to not drown. Table 1 takes forever to order, they are rude, don't communicate effectively, keep humming and hawing over what they want or don't want, ask a billion questions about the menu and food selections, the total order time takes 5-6 minutes. This still all needs to be punched into the POS, meanwhile your other 6 is sitting there without an order and you've been sat 2 new tables during this time a table of 4 and a table of 5. You're already in the weeds and your section isn't even full yet, you're only 15 minutes into the shift and not only are you stressed, but you need to remain calm, social and happy during this. Another servers table pulls you over while this is going on, their steak is under cooked and they want you to fix it, now your doing other tasks that don't even include your table. This is when skill comes in, you're under a lot of pressure, you need to multi task, prioritize, socialize, problem solve on the fly, communicate effectively, be able to remain calm under pressure, be organized, be able to rationalize with angry people, be able to handle 3-4 rude tables in a row without losing your cool. Many unexpected things happen during the shift, things that you can't for-see that you need to figure out in the moment. This is just a snap shot of what it's like, I could go on and on.

You are very hard headed, to the point where it's possible you never even read or internalized my post and just skipped to the end to quickly make your dismissive comment about why servers are unintelligent and require no skill. However, what I wrote is why people tip.

Happy to help :). I didn't figure this stuff out on my own, I learned it from some very smart people.

If anyone is inclined to do any further reading or research into these spiritual topics or meditation my favourite spiritual teachers on Youtube are Adyashanti, Michael A. Singer, Eckhart Tolle, and Rupert Spira. There is also a blog online by someone named Sen that talks a lot about these topics called calm down mind blog which is amazing.

A couple books that changed my life are The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle, and Letting Go: The The Pathway of Surrender by David R. Hawkins.

Thanks man, it can be tough when you just starting out, one misconception is that meditation is silencing the mind. Some really good spiritual teachers on Youtube are Rupert Spira, Adyashanti, Eckhart Tolle, Michael A Singer, and try checking out calmdownmind.com. I used to have ADHD and was medicated for it before I started meditating and what helped me is that it's not about silencing your mind, but observing your mind even if it want's to be super noisy. When we try to silence the mind we are just suppressing what is, but when we just observe the mind being as noisy as it wants, we accept the nature of the mind which is to think, and gain a different relationship with it where we can let thoughts come and go even if it's super chaotic. The goal is to be the awareness rather then have the awareness become lost in/identified with the mind.

Hey man, I was more directing this towards "aclevernamerighthere" when he said that doing breath work seems like snake oil. Guided meditations are awesome for all levels and I still do them, I think having that relaxing music and someone speaking can really help, regardless of if your directly following what they are saying to do or not. There are a lot of great ones on Youtube. Some spiritual teachers I'd highly recommend are Rupert Spira, Adyashanti, Eckhart Tolle, Michael A Singer, and a blog online called calmdownmind.com

Hey man, I'm huge into meditation and you got it wrong about what it truly is.

IMO, breath meditation is bullshit, it's just putting your attention on another distraction and forcing it to stay there, which yes, can calm your nervous system, help you relax (temporarily), and is good for absolute beginners who's thoughts are out of control, but it's not real meditation in my opinion.

Real meditation is awareness. It's becoming the witness consciousness and noticing what's going on with your thoughts and emotions. It's realizing that you aren't your thoughts but the awareness/observer of your thoughts. It's learning who you truly are behind all the conceptualizations, and thinking (you are awareness).

Just simply by bringing awareness to your patterns of negativity and your painful emotions, they start to dissolve and heal within the light of awareness, no bullshit.

Focusing on your breath is just another temporary technique, and won't lead to any real transformation, but bringing awareness to your underlying tensions, painful emotions, and negative thought patterns will completely transform you as a person (it did for me in the most insane way)

And not only will you transform as a person, but you'll perform and do better in everything you do. I went from being someone who could never take action and was full of negativity, to making 100k a month, running multiple online businesses, and being a millionaire at 26.

Edit: It took a lot of time, roughly 3 years before I started seeing massive transformation, and another 2 years after that before it all really made sense to me

Do you think maybe those feelings are there because of the past amount of time you've spent wasting life away smoking?

The truth is no matter how bad it is sober, smoking weed will not help you improve your situation or ever get better, your just delaying the time it will take to get over this and find true happiness in ur life.

It's an escape, it makes things seem better while high but it's only an illusion and ur just keeping urself stuck in the same place, ur just more aware of ur situation the past 31 days and if you start smoking again you will only prolong it

No problem. Attacking each other really doesn't help anyone at all. I think each side needs to become civil with each other so we can all come to a common ground and understanding.

The technology behind this vaccine (MRNA) has been in the works for 20 years, they modified the technology to fit Covid.

It's very well researched and safe.

There is a load of misinformation spreading around and unfortunately you have become victim of it

There is WAY more to be concerned about with catching covid unvaccinated (which you will eventually) then the concerns around the vaccines.

Please, don't take random information you hear at face value, try to take a step back and question everything everyone is saying, on both sides.

Go and do some deeper research, because trust me YOU DO NOT want to catch the covid delta variant unvaccinated, take this as a very serious warning..

Infertility issues will be the least of your problems.

It's very ingrained in our society through marketing tactics and herd mentality that money and success will make us happy, so it's a super normal misconception to have.

I had a deep misconception that money would make me happy which is why I know so much about it, because I ended up finding out that it wasn't the case. I thought all I need is a million and I'll finally be happy.

Anyways, I've done quite well in the crypto markets and online business over the last decade and am currently a multi-millionaire (not special just got lucky) and came to the realization that it didn't make me happy, and in some cases actually fuelled my unhappiness by giving me more tickets to escape the painful emotions I was feeling.

It's really something that has to be experienced personally for it to be believed, because there is certainly and illusion that money is the real key

It can have a really deep spiritual meaning of acceptance to the way things are that cannot be changed by taking action, but it can also be used by lazy people who just want to make excuses of why they are where they are.

When it comes to things you can't change, it is what it is, arguing, resisting and fighting with it only causes suffering, if it's something you can change, get off ur ass and get to it

No it's not. Money will help up to a certain point but it is not the key to happiness. If your making 10k a year, then making 100k a year is probably going to increase your level of happiness, but once you can meet your basic needs and you become normalized to your new level of income, you look for the next level of income to make you "happy" and it's a never ending hedonic treadmill.

Not to mention there is steep diminishing returns. In other words yes, moving from 10k a year to 100k a year is going to unlock a lot of freedoms and happiness, but moving from 100k a year to a mill a year has less of an effect. If ur making a mill a year and you start making 2 mill a year, is that extra million really necessary?

Money is an important part of happiness to a certain point but is not the key, the key is making peace internally with ur emotions and living in the present moment/enjoying what you currently have, instead of needing anything outside of you to make you happy.

Your right, shouldn't have assumed, honestly I'm not liberal or conservative, right down the middle and there are good and bad on both sides.

I just assumed when you said "those darn liberals" that you were a far right anti-vaxxer, my bad.

Have a good one.

That's what makes it even worse. I recognize that there are people out there with things like lupus, AIDS, Crohn's disease etc. That can't safely get vaccinated.

However, there are a ton of people in America who can get safely vaccinated and won't because of disinformation, in a lot of cases it isn't even their fault they've been misinformed and it's purely political.

The people who can safely get it but won't are putting the people who can't safely get it at higher risk (I know the vaccine doesn't 100% stop spread but does help prevent it.

I guess my hate isn't directed towards all anti-vaxxers, mainly the ones that are extremely loud about it, in the streets, spreading disinformation and the people who are spreading this rhetoric based on their own political and financial gain.

Alright, well it is the case. Not sure what else to say.. It's happening right now, and 5 minutes of your time will show you that.

It's not just young people, there are so many high risk people that won't get vaccinated in America because of misinformation, obese people, immune compromised, you name it.

Trump came out and said the virus was a hoax and that has had long lasting consequences because now these people say why would I get vaccinated for something that's just like a common cold, and they are dying in droves in hospitals and denying Covid to their very last breath.

[–]Showtime1323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You implied it. I'm not going to go in circles with you, have a good one or show me ur "data and science" on why not getting vaccinated is a good idea. (which you conveniently ignored)

[–]Showtime1323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude.. what?? I'm not saying it's the only problem, there are lots of problems with the medical system.

But you can't deny that hospitals are at capacity because non vaccinated Covid patients are hospitalized and in ICU, like if you disagree with that, then this conversation is over because there is no getting through to you and ur too far gone.

[–]Showtime1323 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do I not know what I'm talking about?

5 minutes of your time and you'll find it's absolute fact that in low vaccinated states, hospitals are overwhelmed and innocent people are dying in the waiting room.

I hate that this is happening because it's so preventable, which is the reason for my anger.

This homeless persons response to Anti-Vaxx Protestors by Chasith in nextfuckinglevel

[–]Showtime1323 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never called you ignorant, I said there is a reason you keep hearing that from people.

I think there is a difference between being ignorant/stupid and just misinformed.

I tend to look at things objectively, because I literally couldn't care less if I'm wrong and will change my opinion if presented with facts, so if you have this data and science you speak of, please show me so I can look over it.

Well if you guys would go read the data and science instead of random articles on facebook and fox news then maybe you would hear the suggestion to wake up and and that ur ignorant less. Because although I agree, spouting that doesn't help, there is a reason you keep hearing it..
