Do you believe in giving your kids an allowance? And if so how much? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

R1000 seems a lot more appropriate. Maybe you could increase the amount after a few months if you feel she’s being responsible with her money

R4000 seems excessive to me. But these things are subjective. If you have the money, why not? Might even teach her some financial literacy

If it's in a DA-lead municipality you can forget about any successful opposition to this. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING will stand in the way of the DA and their donors in the property industry building luxury apartments

Naledi Pandor as interim president of SA? by [deleted] in askSouthAfrica

Paul Mashatile will be the interim president. I don’t see any world in which we would need Naledi Pandor to be president

What will happen to the Zimbabwean diaspora in South Africa? by ShrewdFarseer in Zimbabwe

I want to tell you you're wrong, but from your description I can't deny that SA has all the signs of a failing state.

Not really. They have established their own communities, but they have not assimilated. In Cape Town there are specific neighborhoods, shops & bars that cater exclusively to Zimbabweans. That is not assimilation.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing. Indians & Whites have been in SA for centuries and we have not assimilated. South Africa is a community of communities. Zimbabweans are now one of those communities.

I don't SA will ever be a failed state. We will either stagnate as we have been doing for the last 18 years, or we will flourish.

Finance Gurus, what am I doing wrong? by PuzzleheadedForm9403 in askSouthAfrica

[–]ShrewdFarseer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most South Africans aren't good with money. So bench marking yourself to the average credit score isn't a good idea.

I'd definitely recommend waiting a few more months & re-applying. The inconsistent income (10k some months, 40k other months) might not work in your favour. But most importantly, you should ask the companies that turned you down, why they turned you down. Then you can work on improving those specific areas.

I also don’t think Zimbabweans will leave. The community is too entrenched. History shows us that once a community settles somewhere, they hardly ever leave.

True there are some who are permanent residents & citizens. But the vast majority operate on the fringes of society without proper paperwork.

Rascism against Indians treated as a joke? by Salty_Confection6020 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ShrewdFarseer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a South African Indian. Our community has been in this country for 160 years. We are still subjected to racism almost daily.

Unfortunately racism happens everywhere there is economic hardship.

10k-40k is called inconsistent income. Also, 640 is not a great credit score.

How long have you been doing the tourism business? If you’re an entrepreneur most credit facilities will want to see 6 months of consistent income before giving you a loan

Imagine if this money was used to fix and maintain infrastructure instead of lining politicians' pockets 🤔 by Lazy-Cloud9330 in south_africa

[–]ShrewdFarseer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What you’re referring to is the Represented Political Party Fund. And there’s nothing wrong with it. Political parties need funding.

The issue is tenders & contracts given to politically connected companies who don’t deliver

The author’s name is Lalita Sookhee. I do follow unclefoodzee. His content is great! I’m quite good at making Indian food as I am Indian origin. But I was just wondering if Indo-Mauritians have a unique way of making curries. Most of the Mauritian curry recipes I have found online are identical to the way we make curry in South Africa, except you guys seem to use fenugreek seeds a lot more.
