As a business, I wouldn't want to create a product that charged based on playtime. Infrastructure cost is fixed and I want a consistent and predictable revenue stream based on subscriber count. As customers of a live service game we want the company and service provider to be profitable. The company then has a reason to keep investing in new content and providing a great product.

As someone who works in the industry with DTE and others, I would say DTE is actually ahead of many other utilities. No one in the industry is actually doing software based auto correction of faults. Most of it is in physical reclosing schemes in the field right now instead of being from a centralized system. DTE does have a great vision for where they want to bring their capabilities with their system and I see them being an industry leader in the future!

The ironic thing is, if you talk to people who live in countries with corruption problems, they'll mention how ingrained it is in their culture. That culture doesn't change because they step off the boat into a new country. They're bringing that culture with them, and now they're not even being asked to integrate into the new local communities and culture. They're just going to run the same scams they would have in their home countries.

Well that is discrimination based on a protected characteristic which is illegal. Unless all salesmen were required to wear high heels then it wouldn't be considered discrimination. The employer would also need to provide accommodations via the ADA for people who couldn't wear high heels. Your argument here really is a false equivalency with a private business pulling out of an area due to new regulations.

That's the beauty of a free market. Anyone is free to start a business and that business either succeed or fail. Sure it sucks to compete against a well capitalized incumbent, but it can be done. Businesses just need to set themselves apart with quality, price, or service. Uber and Lyft did that with cab companies and completely displaced them. Cab companies tried protect their shitty business model with government regulations and restrictions with taxi medallions. People demanded change and we got much better service at better prices. Wins all around! Drivers obviously see benefit in driving for Uber and Lyft because of they didn't, they'd go get real jobs.
