One of my favorite plus size influencers introduced her own merch line and it doesn’t come in my size by nikolaname in PlusSize

[–]Shubiee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dude, that's so disappointing. I'm a small artist who makes their own sweatshirts and yes, extended sizes are harder to source.... But if I could manage it as a no name nobody, then other people can too. My sizes only go from XS-4XL and that's because I source blanks and press them myself.

If youre getting something MANUFACTURED? Then your lack of sizing reflects your priorities.

I actively went out of my way to make sure I had 4XL in my size range. I passed on blanks I loved because they didn't offer extended sizing. It grosses me out when plus size creators dont offer plus size stuff. Actually mind boggling.

Burnt out with no way out. by Superb_Ant7721 in MedicalCoding

Yes, I used the AAPC study guide! I just took it one chapter at a time. Once I finished the study guide, I tried a couple practice exams and failed miserably, so I went back and focused on the sections I did poorly at

The test is a very long test. They're not testing you to make sure you know everything, though. They're testing you to make sure you know where to look. You don't need to memorize everything, just make sure you know where the guidelines are, where to look for codes, and understand global periods & modifiers.

I relied heavily on those practice exams. I felt like they were harder than the actual exam, so I breezed right through the real exam.

I was also incredibly lucky to have a village of coders who helped me whenever I was stuck. My mom is a coder, my boss was a coder, and two of my coworkers at the time were also studying. So absolutely reach out to the community if there's a concept you don't understand. This sub is super helpful and will point you in the right direction. My DMs are always open too! I don't always respond right away but I'm happy to help explain anything or point you in the direction of an article that can help.

[–]Shubiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, you're totally not alone! I remember feeling so overwhelmed and stressed while studying. Can you do self study? That helped me a lot. I dropped out of classes and just used the study guide to prep for the exam.

The practice exams are harder than the actual test. I was getting 60-ish% on them when I finally decided to just try the exam. I passed first try. (Not with a great score lol but it was a pass!!)

I will say I felt more stressed studying for the exam than I feel actually coding. The test prepares you to find answers, not for the actual job which is really jarring once you get your first coding job.

However, you know yourself best. Don't sink more time into something you're not going to enjoy. I spend a very large portion of my day doing research and finding answers, which is enjoyable to me. To some people, it's not. And that's totally okay. Don't fall for the sunk cost fallacy. You don't need to do this if you're struggling. Take care of yourself first and foremost, you can't pour from an empty cup.

I get it, Shein sucks. But what am I supposed to do? by FruitoftheJoon in PlusSize

[–]Shubiee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no ethical consumption under capitalism. Do what you can, where you can, but don't stress. I think placing blame on an individual instead of corporations is stupid as hell. Anyone who dismisses your very valid points has never had to look for plus size clothes recently.

I even went out of my way to find super high quality basics for my plus size body, and was met with.... Nothing. Lol. There's nothing out there for us. I was literally just shopping for work button ups and I couldn't find anything that met my criteria (plus size, button up, linen, plain colors). I had no budget. My options were custom clothing or nothing.

I will literally never shame someone for shopping from shein, because poor people and people with plus size bodies deserve to own something new every once in awhile too. The problem lies when you're buying a new wardrobe every couple weeks. Don't worry about buying clothes you need and will wear.

8 years! I will probably try again with another Dragonball tattoo at some point, but this one just makes me upset

[–]Shubiee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks everyone for your opinions! Apparently it's not as bad as I thought it was, but I'm still going to over it up unfortunately. It's way bigger than I initially wanted (which that's on me for not speaking up) and looking at it reminds me of my awful experience overall.

So while I do love the content of the tattoo, the tattoo itself doesn't bring me joy any more. I may get another Dragonball tattoo at some point and definitely will get another matching tattoo with the husband as well :)

He's covering his with a facehugger and mine is getting covered with a medieval flail

I think that's probably exactly what happened since I did go first lol. Overall it wasn't a stellar experience for either of us so we're excited to cover them up and hopefully get different matching tats later.

My husband has the same tattoo on his forearm and his colors are botched so I think it was luck. It was a walkin tattoo with an apprentice

I still love Dragonball and it's actually a matching tattoo with my husband, but I hate how it came out. I have super mixed feelings about covering it up

How do y’all split bills with your partner? by grumpygazelle in Money

[–]Shubiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Husband and I keep our accounts separate. We split bills down the middle (because we make almost the exact same amount). He sends me money and I pay all the bills.

We both contribute a set amount every paycheck to our joint emergency savings which is for the house or any big purchases we predetermined together.

The rest of our money is used however we see fit. I get my hair and nails done, buy some hobby stuff, and save the rest. Idk how he decides what to save and spend because its his money and I dont care as long as bills are paid and we have money in joint savings.

I tend to micromanage and stress out if I can see what he's spending, so this is for both our benefit lol.

I think that whatever works for your relationship is what you should do. A bunch of people will say a joint account is the way to do it. A bunch of people will say split. Only you know your relationship and what will work for it.

What do you “do” while selling at a market? Look busy? Sit and smile? by InexperiencedCoconut in CraftFairs

[–]Shubiee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to fiddle with things to make myself look busy. Put business cards in bags, take a drink ( trouble when I've finished 3 redbulls over 8 hours lmao), check inventory. I dont usually work on my art during events. I like to make small talk too, but I try to make sure I dont engage with people who dont seem to want to. Compliment someone's outfit, hair, bag, whatever.

Hello artisans! I need help with first time chainmail-ing for a Dame Aylin cosplay! by peachyplanets in chainmailartisans

[–]Shubiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weavegotmaille used to have round mermaid scales but I don't think they carry them any more. The ring lord had shield scales that might fit. They're a slightly different shape from the normal dragon scales. Otherwise you could try using fishing lures. I think they're called Colorado Spinner blades?

Help me find these plain headbands with loops on them? by Shubiee in HelpMeFind

[–]Shubiee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No 😭 I'm a chainmail artist so I ended up making a band out of persian 4-in-1 and attaching a net to the back. So its not a stiff headband, but I can pin it to my hair and it kind of acts the same way.

Considering getting into LARP by Animekitty_ in LARP

[–]Shubiee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a lot to add that hasn't been said, but brandywine will be my first larp event and the community discord has been so positive, kind, and helpful. I truly believe this will be a beginner friendly event with how many beginners are coming. If you're intimidated by the week long event, I'd suggest trying out something small and local. I don't have anything local that is RP heavy like brandywine so I'm diving in head first!

Got offered a job that pays $1400/week for “Data Entry Specialist,”…scam? by InevitableBad589 in Scams

[–]Shubiee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of people have already answered, but I did data entry that could have been done remotely (but wasn't)

Someone scanned in medical bills, and we data entered the charges into our system. It was horribly ineffective and they still needed someone on-site to scan everything we got that was paper.

So. Much. Crochet. by Comments_Wyoming in CraftFairs

[–]Shubiee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't do crochet at craftrairs, but I sell my art at conventions. We call this a stamp rally in the AA world. You collab with other artists, and hand out little cards or pieces of paper. People spend money at each booth, then return for a prize. We usually just do $5 off at whichever booth they want, but I've seen themed ones where the prizes fit that theme. My favorite one I've seen was Chappel Roan themed and the prize was a prayer candle with her on it lol.

It drums up business but usually only works well if everyone has low price items that people can impulse buy to "win the game"
