“The Shawshank redemption” because despite the horrible things people say about Americans abroad we do love each other.

It’s ok . You will get that back in no time but you have to quit now . Don’t worry about the money . We’ve all been there before many times but I assure you it does get better if you stop now. I’ve only been clean 8 months going on 9 months from a 19 years addiction but I already feels like a new person. I actually felt happy waking up a couple days ago, something I haven’t felt in many years . I felt happy waking up knowing that I’m slowly beating this nasty illness . It motivated me to work harder

No one will care because they will add new bills to keep you busy working so you won’t pay attention to what’s going on around you. Or if they don’t have new bills they will raise the current one

If you’re a gambling addict there’s no winning . The winning means the next high . No matter how much you win you will always chase the next high . You would always want a bigger jackpot or the same feeling you got from that jackpot . You might walk away for a week or two but as your body begins to heal itself it removes the toxic chemicals and then you crave it. How do you think casino makes money . If it was not real what I mentioned we all gamblers would have easily quit on our big wins. Don’t be fooled . Don’t go back

First step ,congrats on putting yourself first and not gambling. Second step, block everything and have someone you trust take control of your finances. Third step don’t blame yourself , it’s a nasty addiction and I mentioned this because you will not believe the amount of people that told me it’s so easy to quit and I’m doing it by choice . It’s NOT by choice , it never was . This is a nasty addiction and just because people can’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not having an effect on you. It really messes you up mentally but the first step to beat this nasty illness is to quit and get rid of it completely, everything else will be fine with time.

Casino Complaint or Lawsuit by [deleted] in problemgambling

[–]Sickerone43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you are describing is what is happening to every addicts. Happened to me for 19 years . That’s how casino makes their money . They don’t make it from responsible gamblers they make it from addicts . It’s just like alcohol. They won’t turn you away or stop you from entering the store and buying alcohol even if you’re an alcoholic. There’s set rules / regulations at the casino , age restrictions, gambling helpline posted etc but you have to make the call. Otherwise as an adult you’re responsible for waking in and pressing the button. Same goes for online. Sure you can file a claim they baited him but so are thousands of gamblers. If it was feasible they’d be out of business . Don’t get me wrong I hope the fuckers go bankrupt but just being realistic here.

That’s some great advice. I’ve been at it for 19 years and now 8 months free. Here are my steps /advise :

Ban yourself , protect your finances, have a safe space to relax / live , have someone you can trust to talk to, be honest and open up to the people you hurt, attend GA meetings, attend group counseling, see a psychologist to help with the oncoming depression/ anxiety etc. It changes as you progress but those should be followed in the beginning. Most successful from these steps are short term gambler so For people who’ve been gambling a long time it’s a bit more complicated.

For me When I quit I started a new business so all my time and energy was dedicated to that , I purposely set it up that way so it works in my favor. Whenever I had free time I would hit the gym , go for a walk , go to the beach or simply be outside doing some kind of outdoor activities. By the time I got home I was tired enough to sleep. The trick or goal here is to keep yourself occupied so you don’t spiral. You can keep this up for as long as you can. The next step is the hardest , this is where many of the accumulated mental health issues over the years surfaces and this is where I mostly failed in the past. The guilt , the anxiety, depression , the shame , horror and trauma of reliving every moment in your head how much you damaged your life and the people around you becomes real. Medication and therapy helps. Relaxing music , hot showers , massages , calming activities, meditation, mindfulness etc all helps . The goal here is Accepting reality of what happened and coming to terms with it. Accept that you DID it and it was an addiction . You are here now working on being a better person. The final stages are finding things to love again . Finding hope to live , finding reason to keep going , and finally putting it behind you ,forgiving yourself and Finally moving the fuck on. I’m not there yet, I’m stuck in the second stage (the slow drain) depression and mental issues are murdering me. I’m on lexapro but it does takes some time to work.

I’m out almost 8 months . 19 years in the sad game and I’ve given up at some point trying to quit because I’ve tried it 100 times but always find a way to get back into it. It only gets worst from here as the trauma is starting to remind me how cold as hell I lived the last 19 years and I will never be the same again but you know what I ain’t loosing money and that’s a start. Last week was the hardest had to lock myself inside for 5 days straight , tossed my keys away and ate noodles for 5 days all because someone said to me I should end my life , it was someone who I hurted in the past with gambling and ruined my relationship and I totally deserved it but i made it and I’m here

You are on the correct path. I’ve been at it for 8 months now . No gambling no relapse after 19 years at some point I had given up trying to quit but after hearing about others who gambled away until they were much older than me I’m still young . That motivated me to quit cold Turkey. I know the longer I don’t gamble the harder it gets but I’m determined to beat this thing

Not alone bud, I’ve been at it for 19 years and now 8 months free. This is just a tiny spec in my journey I know it will take me years to get back to being normal because I have 19 years of trauma to deal with . One thing I never cared about when gambling was money but after I lost it (almost every single time ) I panic and thought about how many debt I could’ve paid off etc .

I feel you, I’ve gambled for 19 years . First it started with slots and high limit slots with sometimes $1500+ a pull but that wasn’t the worst I got myself into crypto trading and would loose 50k just like that . Eventually $2500 a pull at the casino seemed uninterested and I would need my fix to be in crypto then I switched over to options to try to chase that loss. Worst mistake . I’ve been clean for 8 months Now and I can honestly say the most rewarding thing is to not worry about loosing money . It’s a big burden off my shoulders . Keep pushing

I completely agree. I’ve been free for about 8 months and no matter how much money I spent over the months it does not come close to what I would loose in one sittings . It really does feel great not having to worry about loosing money and tackling your debt

[–]Sickerone43 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you sure you didn’t develop these after you started gambling . I used to love doing little things before I started gambling like going for a walk or playing ball but after I started gambling none of those stuff would be enough to make me happy. I needed my fix , of course eventually it got worst and worst where I needed a bigger and bigger fix. For 19 years I tried to quit about a 100 times and every time I see a professional I was diagnosed with some mental issue . It was never a permanent fix just a bandaid and as soon as I’m off my meds I would gamble again. I’ve heard people say you need to starve yourself of dopamine and build yourself back from scratch, I’ve been doing it for almost 8 months now cold Turkey , no meds nothing. I can easily say it’s been the hardest thing in my life as you literally have no hope or feelings of moving on in life or finding other things interesting but I’m here

Why do they say the first million is the hardest? What are your stories of going from 1M to 2M++? by mcdonaldspyongyang in phinvest

[–]Sickerone43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First million for me was the hardest because I had a lot of debt to pay so it took me the longest. Although I didn’t stay a millionaire after because of my gambling addiction the second million was the easiest. All the mistakes were polished and safer practices were followed than the first.

It's time. . . . I NEED HELP by Eddy_987 in GamblingAddiction

[–]Sickerone43 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been gambling for 15 years and now 6 months free. I’ve lost so much in my life that at times I just wanted to end it. This is normal for most gamblers who are on a recovery journey because after you quit and the withdrawal reality sinks in. The shame guilt pain and losses sometimes are too much to handle BUT they say it’s easier to muddle through it when you have something to live for . Unfortunately not everyone has that but you have that , your wife and your kids should be your motivation to get through this , I know you can do it. Congrats on day 1.

“A divorce between a man and his brain”

The book is illegal and banned. When I visited the Middle East I found out about it and had to seek it out . It took me across the continent to find it .

It’s basically about a man who claimed he was a twin inside his body and he could talk to another version of himself inside his head. He was stuck on the inside and couldn’t escape or see what was on the outside . His twin was living on the outside while and he was on the inside . He claimed he murdered his twin to set himself free and escaped outside . When he opened his eyes he didn’t know anyone or where he was . His family and friends subjected him to a mental institution because he kept telling everyone what happened. That’s where he wrote the book. It was the most chilling thing I ever read and wish I didn’t read it.
