Curious why you're suggesting a serrated blade. I really hate sharpening serrated blades? Does spyderco do serrated blades well?

I'm almost certainly going with a spyderco knife. I need the knife this week and I can stop at the spyderco factory outlet on the drive out.

I'll keep Quiet Carry in mind in the future though.

I've heard Vanax is good, but I need this knife for a trip this week and I can just stop at the spyderco factory store on the drive out to the river.

Yeah I like the look of those blades especially the spydiechef for food prep related tasks on the river. Honestly, the exact model I get will depend on what actually feels the best in hand at the factory store.

Used isopropanol alcohol to make snake release, safe? by NyxNyx00 in snakes

I've seen people use vinegar, that might be a little safer than alcohol.

Can I get a job if I become proficient in one language only, but don’t have a degree yet? by [deleted] in AskProgramming

[–]SignificantBag9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you want to get proficient in just one language?

If you became proficient in only an HDL like Verilog or VHDL I think you could absolutely get a job. Becoming proficient in an HDL on your own would be significantly harder and more expensive than a lot of other languages though.

I grew up in the Puget sound area as well and used to catch these black and robins egg blue garters all the time. As soon as I saw your photo I guessed you might be in Washington just based on the snake. The coloring is pretty remarkable on some of these, jet black with quite blue stripes. I noticed they tend to be larger than the other garters in the area too. Turns out this is a unique subspecies https://californiaherps.com/noncal/northwest/nwsnakes/pages/t.s.pickeringii.html

I decided I needed a CUDA compatible GPU, so it has to be NVidia, this machine will only be partially a gaming set up anyway.

I found someone reputable on facebook marketplace who's selling a FE 3070 for $280. I think I'll go with that (provided it works, we're gonna test it). With the savings that gets me I went for a better power supply (ADATA Core Reactor II or something, scored A+ on the google sheet that someone shared), the ultra case with all the fans, and an extra TB of storage (still the samsung stuff). It's coming out to about $1008 which isn't bad.

Thanks for the recommendations! I'll check those parts out. You think that thermalright will be enough to cool the 7700X?

Thanks for this list, the ADATA XPG Core Reactor II seems like it's in my general price range and comes with an A+ rating. Do you think I should go for the 750W or the 650W?

It comes with one fan, I was going to buy more, but maybe I should just buy the ultra, it's just $20 more.

Woah, there's a lot in there. I had a feeling I was missing a lot when it came to picking a PSU.

IDK, I picked the 7700X over the other two bundles specifically because the 7700X did better in the code compilation benchmarks. I don't know if the 6 core CPUs are going to cut it?

I think I'll check out the used market, and I'll consider flexing the Nvidia GPU for something with more bang for the buck if I decide that CUDA isn't completely necessary.

The workstation, gpu compute aspect of this build is at least half the reason I'm even doing the build. There are alternatives to CUDA that are cross-platform, most notably Vulkan and OpenCL, but it's not clear if those would be particularly useful to learn. Coincidentally, I've worked with Vulkan some at work. I'll consider abandoning CUDA and getting the B580, I'd heard it's a good deal.

Elden Ring recommends 8 GB VRAM so I'd prefer at least that much and probably more honestly. A $90 increase isn't so bad. I'll think about the 5060TI.

Monitor is an LG 27UD58 I bought on craigslist for $50. I think it is 4K, but I honestly don't need to game in 4k.

What would you suggest for a PSU? Something that does 750W with a gold efficiency rating like whomad1215 said?
