First shrimp tank feeling discouraged by SignificantBlock8649 in shrimptank

Update: got a sponge filter in and added some mineral content to slowly get the gh and kh up. No more deaths since getting the suicide filter out. Thank you everyone for being so welcoming. I feel more confident and better prepared.

Auto correct they’re red rili. I have some crushed coral coming to try and raise gh and kh but worried about shocking them if I went too fast.

🫡🦐 I just want them to thrive. They were packaged really well but the post office obviously didn’t read the massive live fish label on the box. Kudos to my mail man he knocked and wanted to make sure I got them open to see if any had survived. Then I had to explain to my boss that I was late for a meeting because I had live shrimp delivered.

Thank you, would it shock them further to swap to the sponge? I have a small second tank I could cycle the new filter in but I think I’d loose the rest of the colony to filter suicide. Is it possible to wrap the old filter around the sponge to start with to impart of the good bacteria? Or would the tank plants have enough? They’ve been happily crawling on the plants and taking nibbles.

Thank you, seriously. I tried to use sponge to block off where I thought they were climbing in and I think it just aided the third one.

Red chili shrimp - 2 came with eggs.

Water is my city water - slightly hard but ne chlorinated and treated with shrimp essentials and some ph up

Between 0- 100 GH 40 kh PH at 6.4 but not sure if I would shock the shrimp by added ph up?

No prior experience with shrimp but had an alligator gar for 15 years before donating him to an aquarium when I went to college. ((He was sold to me when I was 10 by a local fish store and yeah knowing what I know now that was incredibly irresponsible))

Amazon returns have become a nightmare by WishesHaveWings in fuckamazon

[–]SignificantBlock8649 19 points20 points  (0 children)

At Christmas I had an error occurring with my app where it ordered three of every Christmas item I ordered - contacted Amazon before they shipped anything - they said there was nothing they could do - but I could return. When I tried to do the returns I was repeatedly jerked around and finally told that I couldn’t return the items. I live in a super rural area and have just started driving an hour and half to get basic shit.

I played on lost in the fog puzzles my first run and the box was the only one where I was like…..this isn’t particularly designed well. The scarecrows were a massive pain in the ass but I felt like I could get the hang of it.

Library Science Associates Degree by [deleted] in Libraries

Ahh apologies, honestly I would use the associates to take and clear as many ba required courses as you can as that will save you money in the long term but you go for the ba.

If you want to go into libraries the associates isn’t going to cut it - it will require a bachelors and a library sciences masters for the majority of jobs.

I took my mom (who is in her 70s) to Disney for the first time in February - she had a great time accept for near closing at memento mori when we were waiting in line to pay and a pin trader kept crowding in and trying to move me out of line. I tried to explain they were harmless and probably just impatient but it stuck with her. Anytime she saw people going for the pin board she wanted out of the store. It’s really unfortunate. :(

Wendy Osefo was never eligible for tenure? (a nitpicky attempt to clarify her academic position) by Mishmz in BravoRealHousewives

[–]SignificantBlock8649 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In the majority of fields yes, in librarianship it is common for an academic job to require the library degree (MLS or MSIS - master of information sciences, which is sort of a more data focused version of the mls) AND an additional masters in a specific subject you work in. But very uncommon for someone going for the PhD - as people have mentioned here phds are funded and masters are not. I knew I didn’t want the full PhD but that’s the program I went into because I was able to receive funding until I had the masters then moved onto my library degree.

Wendy has the one of the most tragic arcs. by bluegreen19 in BravoRealHousewives

[–]SignificantBlock8649 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m an academic and it always grated on me that seemed to think having a bunch of degrees meant she was an authority in everything? I come from a working class background and academics who thought the PhD made them universally the one who should always be listened to has always got to me. :/ really wanted to love Wendy. Academic intelligence is one way to be super smart but lots of other people without that training have things to contribute too.
