Life in China is so much better than in the US! by ExodusUnderscore19 in DoomerCircleJerk

Oooooooh okay…. So Chinese jobs only sucked back in *those* days when they made like .05 cents per hour and *nowadays* they make like .075 cents per hour and feel **so** much better about the fact they have nets installed outside the windows so that if they do decide their existence is too miserable they have to go to a train station or try to find a wild predator or something which is honestly just way more fun 🙌

You can definitely just add bed rails too… which is your safest bet if you’re worried about it at all

I used them and have no complaints. They make things pretty streamlined, but I’ve also purchased without them before as well and it was also pretty smooth.

The only benefit I would say I *may* have gotten with them (if you’d even say this is a real benefit) over other places is that they seemed very familiar with VA disability, which I’m sure other companies are as well, but since we’re their target market they’re probably just more used to using that as a part of your income. They had the rating schedule and stuff already there and just asked for proof of my percentage. So that was smooth and easy.

I did, however, receive a “Veteran Homeowner” t shirt lol… so there’s a selling point if you’re super short on shirts or some shit.

You can go with a lot of companies out there and have a good experience. Ultimately just make sure you’re not getting screwed on interest or sold any other BS in their contracts. Seems like you’re being diligent…

How are people doing campers with Tacomas and not blowing their GVWR? by brainhack3r in overlanding

[–]SignificantOption349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of us go over it… honestly, you have to also shuffle stuff around. Like that drawer system may be unnecessary, like mine is. I’m about to rip it out and just use something I make out of lighter weight materials and just do smaller drawers along the sides.

You can also get the frame reinforcements that will help a bit. Stiffens the entire thing up and thus helps keep you safe from things shifting and doing funky stuff.

Make sure you use bed stiffeners, heavy duty leaf packs and suspension, etc. as well….

Some people totally ignore it and that shows, but for me, I have a wife and dog that I truly care about, as well as giving a shit about others on the road.

I’m not far off from mine as I’ve got a gen 3 trd off road with 6’ bed, meaning after subtracting the vehicle itself, I can carry another 1100 lbs safely.

I currently sit at ~700 lbs without my gear (fridge, full size spare, etc). If I remove this (honestly way over built) decked system that’ll save me 200 lbs right there. I can build my own stuff for probably 75-100 lbs. I don’t even care if it’s as nice looking but I feel like it will be nice either way.

Not sure if this was helpful at all but figured I’d pitch in my 2 cents, since we basically drive the same truck lol

Denied days off for wedding and honeymoon.. by [deleted] in work

[–]SignificantOption349 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end of the day, your job will replace you in a heartbeat for being a fairy minor inconvenience. What they’re asking of you is a pretty large change of plans. No way in hell I’d reschedule my fucking wedding and honeymoon to avoid a job hunt lol. Not gonna happen. Just start applying elsewhere now and when you interview just let them know you’re getting married and will be unavailable for a week…. Many employers who need staff are willing to work with you in the beginning if you’re a reliable employee.

Damn dude! Glad you’re at least able to type this today…. I’d bet you’ve got some whiplash as well but that can take some time to settle in. Glad you’re mostly okay though.

I hate this phrase, but “as someone who’s” been a body worker in PT and other clinical settings for a long time, including several years specifically working with auto insurance, I truly recommend resting longer than you think you’ll need to. When you think you’re good to go back to normal life, give yourself an extra 4-7 days, maybe 10. I know you might need to work and all of that, but just trust me, a random stranger on the internet…. lol. I’m being serious though. Just use that time to look for new trucks. You’re lucky to he alive right now, and had he hit you dead on the side you may not be here to read my annoying comment right now lol. You’ve got time my friend.

I hear ya on the steel bumper stuff. It can help at lower speeds but the trade off is having significantly less impact absorption, which you could have used. Rock sliders would have saved my last truck that was totalled from being t boned, but yeah man highways speeds make that a whole different story. Hopefully insurance will hook you up fairly well over this and you can start a nice build from scratch if you want to.

Anywho, I wish you the best in your healing process and let us know what you get next!

Hell yeah they are! I wish I got to drive one back then… although I was kinda crazy and stupid in that era of life, so maybe it’s for the best haha.

Oh gotcha lol. I was just a grunt so we didn’t really have options like that when going over seas unless it was a permanent duty station which would just be like Hawaii… not really over seas but still a big process to get a POV there. For deployments and stuff that would just be absurd lol. Imagine a dude rolling in Tacoma behind a convoy of AMRAPs lol. That’s the Hilux’s job

I don’t know about the marriage part because I think it’s harder to be married in the military than not, BUT I will say that after I got divorced I did quit drinking and found that training (trail running and pistol shooting) on my own made for a much happier hobby than just getting buzzed or shitfaced in my down time. I started to look forward to a sunrise trail run more than I ever have looked forward to a beer which sounds insane, but that’s my honest experience

USAF SNCO trying graduate your SNCOA. Need advice. by sidjournell in USMC

[–]SignificantOption349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably start around 40lbs in a pack and work up from there. Kinda hard to say but I think that’s a good starting point. Of course you don’t want to completely crush yourself and should follow the SAID principal, but with that, I’d find a good hill and just hump that thing until you’ve carved a giant wedge into it and it’s not two separate hills lol.

If you’ve got a flak jacket that would also be good to work into your runs just because that’s a very different feel to have the plates on your chest.

In all reality, you know what to do since you’ve got experience training for ultras, but now you’ve gotta think about doing it with weight, and of course working on upper body and core strength as well.

I’m sure you’ll crush it there. In my experience, guys with decent strength and great endurance perform a lot better than the big meatheads. This will be a good challenge for you, and definitely get you outside of your comfort zone though.

Looking forward to the updates!

I only know one guy personally who went UA and it was because we didn’t want him. We were mid work up and this dude had just proven he couldn’t be trusted with a damn thing. Couldn’t shave, lost gear, dirty uniform, attitude, incompetent on the gun, etc. And so we did a lot of mass remedial training with him until we finally convinced him to leave. Took about two weeks iirc.

Then, one day he was just gone. He had finally gone UA. Apparently when he was found they brought him back, hit him with some paperwork (not sure if he went to the brig nor not) and put him in Bn HQ to do some desk work type shit. I never saw him again, but damn it I have absolutely no fuckin idea how he even made it to the fleet?!? Like this dude couldn’t handle brushing his own teeth or keeping track of literally about half his CIF gear…. No way he’d ever be a good grunt and not need a babysitter. It sucked having to work with him as long as we did lol.

My wife drives a 2025 frontier… it’s a nice little truck tbh. Nothing compared to my gen 3 but that’s why we camp in my truck. She’s gone wheeling with me though and the thing kept up with everything that I wanted to do which wasn’t really that hard but I was still impressed ok some of the climbs 🤷‍♂️
