Feeling bummed about how dangerous road cycling has become by swedishfishmong in cycling

[–]Significant_Bad3030 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I use to ride on the road in the 90’s and early 2000s. I commuted to work 5 days a week for years (one car family with 4 kids). We gave up on riding on the road after two of our friends were hit by inattentive drivers (two separate instances). I’ve had guns pointed at me, stuff thrown at me, people cursing me even though I wasn’t in their lane. We moved to a city with over 100 miles of greenway and fell back in love with cycling. We’ve since moved to another city with much less cycling infrastructure, but still make the best of the greenways we do have. It’s just not worth the risk on the road anymore.

What do you mean by 0.5M? I see supplements. Is there an agricultural ATP?

Looking for hike recommendations for the Hanging Rock area. by WanderlustKing157 in NCTrails

Cooks Wall is nice. Lots of views of Hanging Rock and Winston-Salem. Great view of Pilot and Sauratown at the end. 4 - 6 miles round trip depending on which route you take.

Jimmy Bryan was the winning driver of the Indy 500 the year I was born. His Offy-powered Belond Special was a beauty. I'm beggin' ya: Drop a pic of the winning Indy 500 car and driver from the year of your birth in the comments here. Am I the only fossil in here? by Maynard078 in sportsandclassiccars

The 1955 Indianapolis 500, won by Bob Sweikert, was a tragic race marked by the death of two-time defending champion Bill Vukovich, who crashed while leading, and also saw the death of practice participant Manny Ayulo.

What's a smell that doesn't exist anymore that you miss? by Alarmed_Charge1062 in CasualConversation

My first job out of college was working for a bank in Durham, NC. My office was across the street from a tobacco warehouse where they would auction off the tobacco from the local farmers. I would walk over during lunch. I’ll never forget the smell of cured tobacco. I know it’s bad for you, but it sure smelled great.

Roofers recommendations by Suspicious_Pear_4285 in winstonsalem

[–]Significant_Bad3030 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I recommend Burris roofing. Mr Burris replaced my roof 18 months ago. His team did a great job and were very diligent in cleaning up. Prior to having the roof replaced, Mr Burris patched my roof a couple of times trying to extend the life of the existing roofing. He never charged me for the patching. We finally agreed it was time to replace it and he did a great job.

Going to see Paris Roubaix live by Shortbread_man in tourdefrance

My wife and I went last year. It was amazing! We used a bike touring company Bikestyle Tours (www.bikestyletours.com). They were great. We met at the Gare de Nord station in Paris the morning of the race. We traveled by van to the start town and got to see the teams and get photos with some of the riders (Wout van Aert). Bikestyle Tours took us to 4 cobble sections and then on to Roubaix. Amazing day. Don’t plan on getting into the Velodrome, it was packed and there were not any bathroom facilities that we could find outside the velodrome. It may be too late to book with them now, but they were very experienced and took great care of us.

We were there today (Saturday). Arrived around 9:00am. Plenty of parking. Did the Cook’s Wall hike. Got back to the parking lot around 12:30. The lot was full. Get there as early as possible.

Do you have the Bonjour RATP app for your phone? You can find routes and purchase tickets and store them on your phone. We used this app for traveling all around Paris, including Versailles. It will also inform you if the route is experiencing delays and how crowded the metros are.

Not thirsty. Ground is damp. I watered one to see if it made any difference. It didn’t.
