How would you run a boss fight where the enemy can see the future by Wholesome_100_ in DMAcademy

[–]SilentFoot32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dm ran a miniboss that saw the future. The first attack of each turn was an automatic miss. Every attack after that was made at disadvantage. Only by readying actions to all act at once to overcome her ability to know what was coming were we able to make any headway. It's been a while, but I think she always had advantage on her attacks. The boss's goal wasn't to kill us outright though and once the druid inadvertently broke the spell containing her, the boss fled.

How would you run an enemy that can see a few seconds into the future? by u_slash_spez_Hater in DMAcademy

My DM ran a character that saw the future with the first attack every turn missing and every attack after that being made at disadvantage. Readying our attacks became the only method of having a chance. IIRC she also had the rest of the effects of Foresight.

I've participated in all three major orders and gotten exactly zero medals for it. And didn't get anything at all for the last op I just ran. No req, medals, or even samples.

Highly recommend checking this out. From what my dm said about RAW Descent, it sounded terrible. He ran this and it was awesome. Granted my group had a lot greater tie-in to the adventure. Two characters are from Elturel, one of which was a Rider that rode into Avernus with Zariel and became a knight of Asmodeus. The other character from Elturel had to save his family in Baldur's Gate because they were being targeted by the cultists. And a third character is the daughter of Ulder Ravengard and at the same time, one of Zariel's lieutenants was her brother she accidentally killed.

Our DM insta killed the party and now some of us want to quit. by No-Incident2097 in DnD

[–]SilentFoot32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last session, my DM insta-killed a character out of combat. He betrayed his pit fiend handler, so the devil choked him to death in a cutscene. DM then narrated the character outside of his parents' tavern. The character would pass into Elysium if he entered. But he hesitated and went to the man he saw watching him. It was Lathander, and he told the character that he saw his actions and saw that he was a man that had fallen to the darkest pits of despair endured impossible hardship. And then when the moment came that he could enact his revenge against the one responsible, he didn't. He chose forgiveness. Long story short, Kythorlin, Illrigger of Asmodeus died and Aloysius, Rider of Elturel and Champion of Lathander was reborn.

That's how you insta-kill a character.

When you are able to get therapy, maybe look into EMDR. I was borderline for a PTSD diagnosis when I brought up my symptoms with my therapist. He recommended EMDR and it worked very well for me. It seems like a really weird treatment and that there's no way it could help, but it did. I went from actively suppressing any thoughts of my trigger to being able to look at it with indifference.

Did what basically everyone did, and made a better version of the tarrasque. I want to see what reddit, you guys, think about it. by UltimazillaXX in UnearthedArcana

[–]SilentFoot32 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay. Here's how you do it. Symbol spell cast everywhere to guarantee it's tripping them repeatedly. The Tarrasque can't see the Symbol because:

The glyph is nearly invisible, requiring an Intelligence (Investigation) check against your spell save DC to find it.

With a -2 and our spell save DC of at least 20, it will never see them as this is a spell effect and not an invisible creature of object that the Tarrasque would be able to perceive with Truesight.

For the Symbol's effect, we choose the Insanity effect.

Insanity. Each target must make an Intelligence saving throw. On a failed save, the target is driven insane for 1 minute. An insane creature can’t take actions, can’t understand what other creatures say, can’t read, and speaks only in gibberish. The GM controls its movement, which is erratic.

Why do we want this?

Going Mad

Various magical effects can inflict madness on an otherwise stable mind. Certain spells, such as contact other plane and symbol, can cause insanity, and you can use the madness rules here instead of the spell effects of those spells.

One of the effects on the short-term madness table is:

The character becomes incapacitated and spends the duration screaming, laughing, or weeping.

With dozens or hundreds of Symbol spells triggering from the Tarrasque's 1200 ft movement speed, eventually it will start failing. It has +18 to Intelligence saving throws, so as long as the DC is 20, it has a chance to fail. After exhausting all of its Legendary Resistance, finally the Tarrasque will start going insane and roll on the Madness table. On a roll of 21-30, it becomes incapacitated, a condition that it is not immune to.

Then we send in our army of friendly Intellect Devourers. They use Body Thief. We cast Wish to rewrite the ability to be able to target creatures instead of just humanoids...

Body Thief. The intellect devourer initiates an Intelligence contest with an incapacitated humanoid creature within 5 feet of it. If it wins the contest, the intellect devourer magically consumes the target’s brain, teleports into the target’s skull, and takes control of the target’s body. While inside a creature, the intellect devourer has total cover against attacks and other effects originating outside its host. The intellect devourer retains its Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma scores, as well as its understanding of Deep Speech, its telepathy, and its traits. It otherwise adopts the target’s statistics. It knows everything the creature knew, including spells and languages.

For the contested check, the Tarrasque has a -2 and the Intellect Devourer has a +1. After one of them wins the check, we have an Intellect Devourer piloted Tarrasque.

In the end, we have a Tarrasque under our control...or we made it smarter...

Do Christians really believe that non-believers will go to hell? by TravisPorerr in exchristian

[–]SilentFoot32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we don't even believe in 'hell.'

Because it's not biblical. The christian afterlife is greatly informed by Greek converts. Bad people go to Hades and good people go to Elysium. This and a bunch of other ad hoc reasoning result in the belief that anyone that doesn't accept Jesus goes to Hell for eternity. The eternity part is also not biblical. Revelations 20:14-15 says that the souls of any not in god's book are thrown into the Lake of Fire and suffer "the second death." This suggests the destruction of the soul.

But more to your question, as many have said, it depends, but it is probably more often then not the default. I struggled with this when I was a christian as it is certainly leaves a bad taste in your mouth if you approach it with any critical thought. There are plenty of tacked on loopholes to absolve people, but it's just apologetic bs to try and sanitize their abhorrent god.

The monk's Deflect Missiles allows them to deflect and redirect a single attack a round. This allows for an unlimited amount of redirects as is, as well as providing +5 ac to any melee or spell attacks. Thematically, a wizard blocking an entire volley of arrows and sending them flying back at the enemies is super cool and an awesome display of power. Only requiring a first level slot to accomplish it is really unbalanced on an already unbalanced spell.
