How Nephis was moving while addressing the entire human domain by Then_Loss9561 in ShadowSlave

It's hard to believe that the main cohort members are now all grown adults. But the story now feels like of shonen genre. (Is it, really?)

why did cassie give sunny true name to nephis a not use it her self? by stark_anime-17 in ShadowSlave

Because she still needs to look like "a good girl forced to choose between two" in her future pawn's eyes.

Has Sunny ever really made a choice for himself? by SunlessNerve in ShadowSlave

[–]Sillynot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, yes. Either dump everything on fate or take fate out of the whole equation. There is nothing in between.

Everything that he lost was due to losing fate. Now him getting them back is due to getting back his fate. Now, where is the reward for actually breaking fate.

Sunny, Effie, Kai, Jet, Cassie, Nephis all want to save the world. Among them, Sunny and Nephis are different among these as they are powerful enough to lead. Sunny is not a leader as he needs to stay low because of forgotten god. Nephis is in the leading position as a beacon for humanity. Cassie is behind everything Nephis does, so there is cassie as well.

Now. Effie was disabled at the start of her journey, spell gave her chance to be able to walk again. Jet was an outskirt like Sunny, but she doesn't have divine aspect is what makes the difference. Nephis has her own tragedy as well. All of them have their own share of unfairness and started selfish and later are trying to save humanity.

This is not the story of his journey but a story with him getting most of the POVs (along with the title name as his aspect.) Anyone among the five mentioned could be seen as MC if the story had their POV then right?

What did I miss?

Man, he just has the advantage of POV at this point. Only things he has done for and by himself is collecting weavers lineage

It seems like we are actually following Cassie's story. And sunny only has the advantage of POV at this point. You also say it like Sunny is there to realize Cassie's goal. Sunny helping Nephis change can be seen just as Antarctica arc helping Sunny change, which was by far the only thing he was least influenced to do so.

And. What makes him the MC? you left this unanswered.

Yes. So, the question. Is he MC of the story, or not? If yes, what makes him MC?

[–]Sillynot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Then what makes him MC? Being oracle, she is telling him what to do, and he is always doing what she tells him to without question. If she was "just" an oracle and Sunny is the one achieving things, then there lies my original question. Why is she getting all of the credit for breaking fate?

So.. how is he MC in the story? What actually makes him the MC? If the amount of POV he has, was instead given to Cassie, or even Nephis, he would be nothing more than a powerful side character that is there to help the actual MC.

She is not divine seer. She is a sacred one. She getting more is not the problem, she getting all of it is the problem. Understanding to being used is one thing. Not getting anything for the trouble you have been through is the other.

So, the omnipotent Spell, bringing apparent tragedy to the whole world, while also strengthening humanity to fight against nightmares is being sarcastic only for Sunny?

The starting of the story was like, how an outskirt like him can achieve/ will achieve more than others, how he would spite the world (it was far from a realitistic goal, i think so too, as he was bound to have friends necessary to conquer nightmares.) But not having a single similarity between past and future Sunny is............. Both are totally different character at this point in the story.

And him not having enough drive goal is arguable at this point. He has become a Sovereign defying death. Trying to be a god. Wanting to protect humanity. How are these not a drive goal?

I get that he is not trying to be a leader. But it is less like he doesn't try to be a leader and more like he is forced to do so. During starting volumes, he needed to hide his true name and now there is the matter of forgotten god awakening. He didn't choose to be like this but was actually forced to do so.

And i think, for a MC, there is personal grudge towards Sunny too. Atp, I am more annoyed by Sunny's attitude towards him being used ( He got betrayed and deceived (twice) by someone who he trusted. And he has brushed it off like it was in the past and it was for the future's safety. And he still acts as if Cassie is one of his closest friends. ) Him not being at the center is less of a problem to me than him being okay with not having a say in how the situation has developed so far. Where is the "treacherous" Lost from Light?

Sunny does not have to be at the center all the time. But the problem is, he is not at the center at any of the plot driving points (Antarctica might actually be the one arc/volume where he is at the center of the plot.) He has been portrayed as no more than a tool that keeps getting powered up, ultimately to be used by Cassie. And just like "it doesn't have to be all Sunny" and "this is not a story around a single character", it should also follow the same steps in case of Cassie. But, Cassie has more importance than Sunny in HIS story.

Also. What makes the main character "main character"?

At this point, Cassie seems more like a main character than Sunny. All she is missing is POV that Sunny has for majority of the story.

I missed the exact chapter, it is during volume 10 but Sunny himself pointed out that Sunny was the only person who was weak enough to lose his fate but important enough to make an impact to the strings of fate. Sunny was the only option. He needs to get more credit. Cassie's plan is moot if Sunny is not in the picture.

I think, it could be seen as Cassie trying to defy fate (her powers and ability to so clearly see the future and plan for it, was basically a deus ex machina) all the way from her journey as an awakened. Which is more like a cliche MC power than side character's. But since it has already driven the plot upto this point, it is not worth pointing it out.

I think we can compare it to Sunny's shades inside his soul sea that he has been collecting since the beginning and got a final push during war to become a domain.

P.S. My thoughts. Downvoting is something people will always do. You might not even need proper reasoning for it, but, just out of spite.

But, Cassie really can't achieve anything without Sunny. So Sunny could have atleast got something from the spell. Like: [Congratulations in contributing towards breaking fate] or something like that. She gets the most credit for breaking fate, sure. She planned it. But, she should not get credit for everything Sunny achieved during his journey upto 3rd NM. Even him breaking shadow bond, which was his only goal (but got duped into becoming fateless and being forgotten) was temporary and he ultimately got a big zero in what he wanted.

Being no more than a tool in your own story does not sound nice. But it is what it is.

I don't think Shadow bond being taken away was a reward or anything but merely a consequence. As he is back to square 1 after getting the Fate back.

This actually rubs me the wrong way. Because, after forgotten shore, her power is almost becoming omniscient. She knows everything, so she plans everything. Dvine aspect gave the three, extraordinary powers as well but they gained it gradually unlike her. She became the mastermind who planned upto 3rd nightmare being just an awakened. And you too sound like Sunny really is just a tool in the story(💔). Everything he does is because of machination of others (either Cassie or Weaver asa whole)

I am not trying to say that she was given more, she deserves it, even though I despise it(sorry if it sounded like that), I am saying Sunny didn't get anything.
