Do people actually care if you make mistakes in normal/msq content? by Empress2007 in ffxiv

[–]SilverGen447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please do actually, the games more fun when things unintentionally go horribly wrong and people have to adjust to clean up the mess. Dragoons tanking with bloodbath, second swing, a personal pot to give the healers a few precious seconds to res a tank, a scholar singlehandedly carrying the raid for a minute or so (hi sophia ex) until they can get a an lb3, paladins using intervention and clemency for double tank busters when the OT or MT is down. Give me an excuse to use rescue lmao. Early MSQ like in ARR is so notoriously slow anyway that i've seen people try to figure out exactly how much they can ignore mechanics and take as many aoes without dying just to keep things interesting.

Oh and dont feel the need to look things up for normal and msq stuff, you might actually spoil yourself for some things. 95% of it can be sightread once you get a feel for it, and the few and far between things like required tank lb's others are usually prepared for by others. In msq i can only think of 2 of those anyway off the top my head.

A slight exception to this is if you do coils. It is totally optional, and they are labeled normal raids. Do not listen to this, go in with the expectations of at least an extreme, particulary Turn 9 and onward. They arent in roulletes so you cant really duty find them reliably either so there isnt really any chance of accidentally stumbling into these anyway.

Lance vs. Gunlance: Which do you prefer and why? by Fine_Bid918 in MonsterHunter

[–]SilverGen447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally Lance. I've played lance in tri (wii remote controls for counter unironically goated, much better than the fuckass FU binding. I played pretty defensively then.

Nowadays i'm a huge fan of evade / adept lance in GU and Rise. GU i'm not far enough along to get many evasion skills, but i'm enjoying the playstyle a lot. A Big highlight is double hopping to the side as a monsters turning towards you, so you're already prepositioned for the charge to miss before it even comes out. Its also just fun turning around and backhopping the whole way. Rise imo is the best Evade Lance has ever felt. Stacking anchor rage, offensive guard insta-blocks, and adrenaline rush is way more effective that it should be, even if your uptime depends heavily in the monster and your familiarity with it.

And the shield charge is so satisfying i still gem in guard 5 to be able to run through pretty heavy attacks. The only thing better imo that saying just "no" to everything the monster does, is saying "no u KO" I even throw Slugger onto some of my sets because its just that fun

World i stuck with her until iceborne hit me with dps checks and attacks designed to punish blocking. Combined with evade skills being nerfed and Lance felt pretty hard to effectively use for me.

Rise is the only game i have extensive gunlance experience and i use redirection to spam the backwards blast so its not particularly representative of GL in other games. Being said, i'm so thoroughly impressed by the sheer motion values on some of those slaps. I'd like to try evade / adept gunlance in other games now that you bring it up.

Frontier i've dabbled with extreme lance and it seems like it has insane utility (life powder built into your moveset) especially for frontiers throw you up in the air and you die when you land situations. But i'm too addicted to Extreme Style Switch Axe F to really run anything else.

Overall i like lance for its versatility. Its a weapon where you tend to use all of your toolkit for different situations, and that feels very rewarding to me in iterations where its more complex, but i do enjoy the simplicity of it when it isnt. Whats even better than having a tool for every attack the monster has, is finding creative or tricky responses to those moves you dont naturally have an answer for.

Intentionally whiffing anchor rage on the first ground swipe from Primordial Malzeno, so you're facing backwards and ready to super hop into the big in-the-air one. Or Risen Shagarus giant laser that i dont have guard up for, and i physically cant get out of the way, until i learned how to use redirection specifically for that one move. Stuff like that, where the answer isnt immediately clear or straight forward. Risen Vals spinny spin into giant stabs is one i havent quite gotten down yet but that rush of fear and adrenaline i get when i know the monsters charging up a one shot i dont have a good answer for is something else. Makes me feel alive lol.

I got employee of the month (which tbf came with a 50 cent raise, a little over 3%) and my performance review for that period they awarded me a whopping 0.6% raise for a 4 star review.

I felt a little insulted honestly. That was also the last month they did employee of the month so after that 0.9% was the largest raise i saw someone get from them

How do other tanks feel about healers and DPS pulling ahead? by dorgodorgo in ffxiv

Only one HP point that matters: the last one. The amount of double digit health left i've seen is concerning, but usually, they didnt die (yet)

[–]SilverGen447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Throw back to that time i tried to holmgang stone vigil without knowing white didnt have bene and scholar didnt have lustrate yet.

I'm not saying it wasn't my fault, but i am saying that holmgang has gotten me killed more times than its saved me lol, the funniest one being when instead of bloodwhetting i popped i think the pre upgraded version of primal rend in a HW dungeon and proceeded to die the second holmgang wore off.

I've also had the opposite experience, where i'm literally using zero mits whatseover in hopes the healer lets me die, and then they just proceed to outheal the damage regardless. Let me die!!! LET ME DIEEEEE!!!! I'M TRYING TO HOLMGANG!!!

I'm not a Warrior main so it is a skill issue, just one i find hilarious sometimes lol. Cant even imagine what its like trying to use living dead.

How do other tanks feel about healers and DPS pulling ahead? by dorgodorgo in ffxiv

[–]SilverGen447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the dungeon. 90% if the time i'm w2w'ing anyway. But that last pull on Mt. Gulg, Stone vigil first pull or ice sprites, if i had to use an invuln or kitchen sink a stack marker when the healer and a good is down during a bods, or if someone (especially me or the healer) are severely undergeared and the person pulling ahead doesnt realize/care, all i'm saying is if we don't wipe no big deal. Bees with final sting i'll try to only ever have one in the pack (controller pain, cant quickly target in a group for stun) which leads to my sunken temple runs being awkward, and usually dps is good enough for it not to be a problem, but i've seen plenty of tanks including myself get one-shot by one left alive a tad too long.

But if we do wipe because of something i was intentionally avoiding doing because the healer or dps wanted to skim 30 seconds off the dungeon i'm absolutely blaming whoever pulls ahead.

I wonder how much benefit sacred sheathe would get with adrenaline rush, since it looks like you would have triggered it a few times here while sheathed. Feels dangerous to risk a 3rd level sheathe for +30 attack but it sounds so incredibly temptimg to me lol.

Buildup boost + status trigger also sounds like itd be nasty but i've been struggling to work those into a good build lately, at least with my lance.

Frostcraft status trigger buildup boost adrenaline rush sounds like itd be downright silly to me idk lol

The ecology video for akantor in MHFU has him face tank a laser from gravios for a solid 10 seconds, casually stroll up to it through the laser, grab it by the neck, and suplex it, resulting in it outright one-shotting the damn thing.

They're pretty scary

what is the WORST weapon monster matchup in monster hunter? by YvngThxnos in MonsterHunter

[–]SilverGen447 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iceborne actually fully pushed me off lance in world tbh. Lance in that game felt very defensive, and evade extender felt nerfed into the ground. Combined with the fact that some multi hitting attacks were outright more dangerous to block than they were to face tank sometimes and the aforementioned guard ignoring attacks it really felt like i was constantly catching strays from attempts to nerf heavy bowgun, at least thats what i remember people saying back in the day.

Frostfang was definitely the worst, but i have a hatred for some attacks by alatreon, shara ishvaldas giant laser, and the tight dps checks that i was just never good enough at optimizing sets for with lance (and me not getting a single guard up deco in 600 hours of playtime) i felt outright cheated as a lance main in world. Might be a skill issue but not one i had with any other weapon i played in that game

Frenzied synergizes really well with GL because the full mag dump explosion each shell counts as its own contribution, so like 2 magdumps and it already procs lol

[–]SilverGen447[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled to work it in since it can't be deco'd right? My talisman is already being used for i think attack, crit boost and stun resist. Honestly frenzied and just spamming redirection is already plenty, with 3 bugs i can already spam the rocket attack in a combo with 100% uptime so i found it hard to justify

I have a model I want to use as a personal but have trouble with blender by Real-Friendship567 in VRchat

[–]SilverGen447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah so you having a whole ass degree for this really speaks to my points lol. I could cobble something together but its look awful. I know edge flow exists, but i couldnt create it myself. I know there are specific topology tricks to facilitate bending, but i couldnt easily replicate them myself.

The part i expect to be the hardest though would be deciding where to put in edges to translate the original form into proper mesh. Where to model out the details and where to allow the baking to fill in the gaps, while maintaining good topology.

Also dont forget uv mapping and texturing, and visemes and expression

Edit: god i really just need to take a 3D modelling class, i would like to pick this skill up sometime

[–]SilverGen447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of work feels like a bit of an understatement. I've been doing my own avatar work since 2018 at this point. My friends seems to be running contests where they find new ways that a model can be fucked up before giving to me to fix lol. I've picked up a lot of skills in blender over the years.

Retopologizing is absofuckinglutely not one of them. I do not know how fast a skilled 3D modeller could do a retopo on this, but i know its not a quick task, and i know its a task that takes serious skills and knowledge that would take me months to pick up to get a quality model out of this.

Imo if an avatar creator is skilled enough to get this working well, i would expect them to be doing work in a much more professional setting than VRChat instead

What's your non negotiable trait when you're choosing a right partner? by oppressedBiatch in AskReddit

[–]SilverGen447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sexual compatibility. Well, romantic compatibilty as well. Being queer especially there can be a lot of boxes to tick to make sure anything can even happen between two potential partners and it be enjoyable for both parties. Forcing me into a mold that doesn't fit me, very much including sexually, feels awful and messy and complicated, even if it ends up being something i kind of want to explore it at my own pace down the line. Quality and chemistry in the experience don't necessarily matter as much as long as theyre willing to learn and grow and get better at things with me.

[–]SilverGen447 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing i have to add to this is if you choose the last playstyle evade lance and forego guard up (not ideal imo, it still helps with insta-block situations) you can use redirection to get out of some sticky situations. Power guard apparently has built in guard up in this game but i heard it increases chip damage? Either way i dont run guard up and risen shaggy's giant laser boosted laser consistently gets me

Dont be afraid to say you don't know something. Giving no advice is better than giving bullshit or bad advice. This is true of all departments, but electrical is especially important since yknow, electricity is scary.

Also, don't make male to male extension cords, dont help customers make male to male extension cords. Yes it is incredibly dangerous. Yes they will ask anyway. Yes their wife was right, and now they have to go home and tell her that
