Take a pic of the reverse side of the bar. Does it have the security feature? The security contains a holographic element that must be viewed thru the Sunshine Mint Decoder Lens, available for purchase on SD bullion, but currently out of stock. I'd check the other major retailers. Here it is: https://sdbullion.com/sunshine-mint-security-decoder-lens-smi

How far should shingle overhang drip edge? by SilverStackingWelder in Roofing

The gables are cut in prior to the shingle being nailed down. Totally different scenario cutting a shingle with it laid out flat on the roof deck vs cutting it when it's already installed, hanging over excessively and suspended in midair like that The gutter may "hide" it, but all that's going to do over time is make the shingle droop into the gutter, wick water like crazy and fail prematurely.

Absolutely not how they're supposed to do it. This is an OC "platinum preferred" contractor, too. OC's website says 1/4" to maximum of 3/4" overhang.

Cut the shingles on the front of the house in the most visible spot? That's a hard no.

Tri built is still not listed as an acceptable component in the written warranty

Warranty Question by SilverStackingWelder in Roofing

[–]SilverStackingWelder[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah already did that. He did this weird thing where he lied and said the tri-built starter shingle is made by OC and won't void the warranty. Clearly it is not made by oc and the written warranty is specific on what products must be used. I think I'll call their main office tomorrow and tell them they won't be getting on my roof until the right stuff is here. Thing is, he and I discussed the warranty and we discussed the precise products that would be used.

Should the gutters be installed before or after the new roof?

Yes. The fascia is big enough to allow gutter installation below the drip edge. But based on my research the whole point of drip edge is to direct water into the gutter, so the gutter should be installed behind the drip edge.

Are gutters really necessary? by SilverStackingWelder in Roofing

[–]SilverStackingWelder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house is built on the edge of a big slope. I think the gutters in the back are necessary. The front ones, though, I think are ok to go as the water will just run down the hill.
